It's kind of a standard rock song for the Cure, and yet I like it on first listen. Nothing mind-blowing, but Robert's voice makes it all better. :-) I think it's a grower.
I don't know for sure, but I love what I hear production wise on the new single. Robert & Keith did a great job with it. I'm hoping for the same with The Perfect Boy.
I agree - the mix for The Only One and NY Trip sounds SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much better than it did on TC! I liked TC a lot actually, but on some of the songs, the mix was putrid. Vocals too high, guitars too muddy, etc. etc. I'm no tech-geek, but man, that was some lousy-ass production.
does anyone know where i can get full mp3 downloads of the perfect boy, the only one, freakshow, and NY trip? I pre-ordered "the only one" singles on cd and 7" and they should be here tomorrow or tuesday, but i would really like to be able to put the perfect boy and freakshow on a playlist that i can listen to on my drive up to Chicago for the show next Saturday
The Perfect Girl, The Perfect Boy, Why Can't I be You?, Why Can't I Be Me? Fear of Ghosts, The Hungry Ghost, Merry Christmas Everybody (covered live in 1987), Christmas Without You, Away, Please Come Home, 39, 16...
I could go on and on. Bob's running out of non-self referencing titles, apparently.
shawn methinks you are being a touch too harsh...I am loving that craig is getting that buzz again from the band...i am really thinking this is going to be a great album.....we will see soon enough!
Have to agree that Perfect Boy is a winner. The opening riff is the best Cure riff in years...and then the deep base blends in well as RS starts singing...I agree, that "feeling" is on the verge of returning...
Thumbs up from me also for "The Perfect Boy". I cant wait to hear the studio version of this one. I think it has the most potential out of all the new material as presented live to date and it will surely be lots better from studio. What are the chances that this one will be one of the two as of yet un-announced singles. DEFINITLY A SIDE SINGLE MATERIAL IMHO.
alastair, as long as the music is good, I'm not really concerned with what Robert names songs. For all I care, he could name a song "All Kinds Of Stuff".
I too have a feeling the recorded version of this is going to be good. Freakshow I really like, followed then by A Boy I Never Knew and NY Trip on a par with each other - both a little bit Cure-by-numbers but the production on the recorded version of the latter is fantastic. The Only One is the er... only one that I find wholly disappointing in a Cut Here type way (though not quite as bad as that!).
Their choice of A-sides always astounds me (from Wish onwards anyway)... I used to think it was Fiction forcing out those "happy" singles to try and dispell the stigma of gloom; Signal To Noise was SO much better than Cut Here. But The Only One seems to follow suit with a superior B-side.
Wrong Number was decent single though. No B-sides as far as I can remember - just a helluvalotta remixes (which were all quite good too!).
Going off topic (or rather MORE off topic), 'The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull' is such a lame name for a movie... I think "The Stigma of Gloom" would be much better. Haha!
Very catchy tune. If the record company does some promo and the Boys perform it on Leno, etc. during the LA break; The Perfect Boy could be The Cures' biggest chart hit since "Friday..."

ReplyDeleteIs this song considered the sequel to 'The Perfect Girl' ?
ReplyDeleteCan we expect a song titled "Girls don't cry" on the new album?
ReplyDeleteKillingtime - yes, I made an attempt at the lyrics yesterday. Look a couple of items down on the blog.
