  1. Can I just say how awesome it is to see the "4Tour Song Tracker 8000" on the side here??? Thanks!

    ReplyDelete
  2. i say they're going to play the top, head on the door and kmkmkm in their entirety, and end with an encore of disintegration.

    anybody?

    ReplyDelete
  3. Too early in the tour for a full out Faith encore, I predict it will debut in Chicago in some form or another.

If I had to guess on tonights opener, let's go with Open.

Guessing still, at least 4 songs will make their first appearance tonight, one being The Figurehead.

  5. Lets hope that the second new song from the boston soundcheck gets played tonight, it sounded wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Well, it was Plainsong, so I'm 0 for 1.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Was thinking Open too. Paul, did you hear the song? Can you describe it?

    ReplyDelete
  8. Yeah I was one of the two people in the box office listening to the soundcheck on monday, and was the guy doing the boston setlist. (aka sullen on most cure boards)

    It was a gorgeous song.
It wasn't pop, but I wouldn't call it dark either.
It was just a slow, pretty, lush sounding track.

The only way I can think to put an image of it in someones head is maybe to think slowdive with robert guitar work and vocals.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Damnit! I wanted Plainsong in Toronto tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Damn, I want to hear that RIGHT NOW. : )

    ReplyDelete
  11. Craig: Do you remember the total number of different songs played on the Dream Tour?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes, 47 in the US, 44 in Europe.

  13. me too craig, me too!!!

i wish i had taped it and shared, but i left the gear in the car, because my battery barely can get 3 hours of audio on one charge, so i wasn't looking to take chances for a distant soundcheck recording.

    had i known.....had i known......

here i am hearing 2 new songs, one of which didn't even get played that night, and my recorder was a block away.

  15. Why don't they ever playing anything other than 'Shake Dog Shake' off The Top? Looking at the setlist histories it's been 10 years since they played anything other than that one!!

I would like to see them pull out Bird Mad Girl, Wailing Wall, Give Me it, Piggy in the Mirror, Bananafishbones....

They have Porl back now, makes sense to pull some of those out of the archives... Other songs I would like to see that they don't usually play:

    - Secrets
    - In Your House
    - Other Voices
    - Doubt (hasn't been played since Faith tour !!)
    - Lament
    - Six Different Ways
    - Screw

    Man I could go on...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Yep, and In Your House would sound amazing with this lineup.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Steve is MIA? Oh well...there's always American Idol.

Maybe they ripped into something so obscure he exploded...any other theories?

    ReplyDelete
  18. No Prayers tonight?
Or did the text not go through?

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think his messages are MIA.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I heard "In Your House" on the Wish tour - it was awesome live. :) Has it been played since then? I'd also love to hear "Secrets" and I am hope hope hoping to hear "Doing the Unstuck" once more live before I die (I got my hopes up when I saw it on one of the Mexico City setlists...) :)

    ReplyDelete
  21. In your house was played once in 03.

I nearly fainted in Mexico City when they played Unstuck.
Should have kept it in the set.

    ReplyDelete
  22. lovesong should've been ovah by now? :\

    ReplyDelete
  23. Steve is updating every 2 or 3 songs.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I agree they should've kept it in, Paul. Every time Robert picked up an acoustic guitar when I saw them in Germany in Feb, I held my breath and crossed all of my fingers and toes. :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. hey! just curious - anyone here going to the radio city show on june 21st??

    ReplyDelete
  26. Maybe they're playing "Lovesong (Extended Mix)" :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I'll be at Radio City!

Can't wait, Swing there was FAB!

One of the best venues in the country.

    ReplyDelete
  28. i am going to be at both nyc shows!

what do you think the odds are of 2late being played? like 1 in 400? i'm bad at math.

    ReplyDelete
  29. 1 in 40,000 maybe :|

We'll likely get Faith at Radio City.

    ReplyDelete
  30. that's great! And i agree, i'd LOVE to hear 2 late. it's so beautiful. what kind of seats do you all have? Where are you from?

    ReplyDelete
  31. i think we will get faith.

there was a rumor a little bit back that they might tape the last show? i haven't heard anything since. perhaps it was wishful thinking, but how amazing would that be? :D

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hey, Craig, I don't suppose that you could respond to my e-mail while you're waiting for Steve to update, eh? :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Shawn - Yes, thanks for reminding me.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I believe that they're taping at least audio for all the shows.

They had crowd/ambient mics set up in Fairfax, Philly, and Boston.

    So0o0oooo,
    Something is going on...

Will it amount to anything, however, is an entire different story.

    ReplyDelete
  35. i live in the city.

i got 3rd row right, but my boyfriend and i wanted stage left because we want to be near porl's sonic-ness. unfortunately i got duped into pre-sale so the seating was disgustingly random.

    ReplyDelete
  36. I'm in Jersey City.

Were on Porl's side, but were 2 or 3 rows apart.

I think the seats are row 6 and row 9, or rows 5 and 8.

I'll trade them and throw in some cash to make the row difference up, my girlfriend and I would rather be on simons side!

    ReplyDelete
  37. ack that's a drag. i'm from charlottesville, VA and it's sort of a last hoorah event for me and 3 of my best friends because we're graduating high school this year. (i'm 17). i saw them in Fairfax with one other friend and i can't wait till Radio City. It seems so far away!

we have 14th row center stage orchestra seating. it's the best we've ever had out of the 3 cure shows we've gotten tickets for. So we're psyched!

    ReplyDelete
  38. ***the drag comment being directed to sofia :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. ooh... is "???" a new song? or do we just not know which song was played after Lullaby?

    ReplyDelete
  40. David, I just sent J @ curefans a message to try and clarify on that...

I'll post if i hear back from him.

    ReplyDelete
  41. We don't know. Should be Perfect Boy. J. couldn't hear and I didn't get Steve's e-mail. Trying to check with him.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Craig, great decision to finally move Chain of Flowers to a blog format. Was hoping you would for the last few years. This is great!

    ReplyDelete
  43. i guess you did pre-sale too?
because my guy and i are a row apart :c maybe people will be nice...

ugh! i would switch with you in a minute but my brother is coming along and is 3 rows behind us. maybe he doesn't care if he sits near us though. i'll text him right now and see.

    ReplyDelete
  44. i don't know if a switch would work cause we have 4 tickets together in a row. and no, i dodn't do presale. i went to stubhub.com and paid like a lot extra cause it was so late for the 4 tickets. :( but it's not too bad. And, i mean, you gotta admit they aren't going to be touring forever. it's worth it.

but yeah. i'm not too sure about the switcheroo. Though your seats soud fantastic. :) simon is yummy. And i'm sure someone will be willing to switch with you or your boyfriend! everyones been so sweet at the shows i've been to!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Actually got worse for the presale.

    Prob b/c I didn't give singles a try.

The onsale first pull I tried a pair and got way back, then i was pulling singles for a half hour and ended up with those 2 seats.

Let me know what your bro thinks!
Either way, i'm stoked to get a RC show again, but we'd much rather be by Simon if center is not an option.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm a "Simon side" girl, too, so I lucked out and got Row 4, Seat 15 and Row 5, Seat 14 for next week's Red Rocks (Denver) Show (I "traded up" when the postponed tickets went back on sale). :) Sucks to be on different rows, but at least my bf and I are somewhat together. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. zephyr, totally agree.

    this is nice!

    ReplyDelete
  48. wow i feel like an idiot. i thought that was directed to me! just disregard that... hah. wow.

    oh the interweb....

    ReplyDelete
  49. just saying hi and enjoying watching the live updates :).

Oh and I hope we get Plainsong for the opener in Vancouver !!

and I was hoping to hear Same Deep Water as You

    and and and..

    ReplyDelete
  50. Compuserve breaking down for a week was the best thing that ever happened for COF. I actually enjoy updating again.

    ReplyDelete
  51. We'll at least were not the only ones apart.

At least the 3 of us are just a row or two apart from our other halfs, could be worse.
Our radio city tix are in the same section and just divided by 2 or rows.

I wish I could have made the red rocks show..

    ReplyDelete
  52. I love the "new" format. :) It's great to have the interaction!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Glad you decided to keep things running Craig.

Alot of us really missed CoF!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Paul: I was soooo psyched when I saw that Red Rocks was the venue they're playing here. I never dreamed I'd get to see The Cure there, but it's going to rule. :) This time next week...ahh...

    ReplyDelete
  55. I know, you never know who might pop in. Michael C. from Schecter just posted in the Guitar Talk post.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yeah, that show is going to be amazing.

I always wanted to see them there, just wans't in the card for me this time, don't know that there will ever be another at that venue.

    Oh well...

    ReplyDelete
  57. Always very happy to see Shake Dog Shake in the set.

    ReplyDelete
  58. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  59. just a heads up anyone going to radio city. ORCHESTRA IS JUST LOWER LEVEL. they are good seats, but the WHOLE FLOOR that is not the other levels is orchestra and im not sure if there are double numbers before the regular ones...

    ReplyDelete
  60. Sorry, monkeybutt, but I think they are running out of time to play KMKMKM in its entirety. during the main set. ;) But I still believe in the Disintegration encore. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  61. at radio city the rows do have double letters before singles. i know i'm in QQ. the 14th row.

    ReplyDelete
  62. They never do seem to run out of time to play never enough and wrong number though : (

    ReplyDelete
  63. there's not a pit at radio city though. unless they cover the orchestra pit and people can stand there. every seat at RCMH is pretty much a good one

    ReplyDelete
  64. Why not through in Cut every now and then?

    ReplyDelete
  65. paul, i dont know where my kid brother is. do you have an email address or are you going to hang out here frequently?

    ReplyDelete
  66. Yes, the radio city orchestra floor seats is simply setup as row AA - ZZ (1-25) then row A being 26th row and so on

    ReplyDelete
  67. in the name of christ I wish they'd just STOP IT with never enough/wrong number.

like anyone in their right mind would be disappointed by the lack of wrong number.

fat bob has gotta be the only person that loves it (obviously)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Craig: "Cut" would be wonderful! You'd think they'd get bored of playing some of these songs over and over... :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. It's obviously the "right" number for Robert. :P

    ReplyDelete
  70. "cut" would be wonderful!

    ReplyDelete
  71. "just a heads up anyone going to radio city. ORCHESTRA IS JUST LOWER LEVEL. they are good seats, but the WHOLE FLOOR that is not the other levels is orchestra"
huh? I think I know what you're saying, but I believe Orchestra seating is the best you can get...

btw, I have LL on Simon's side and I'm not entirely sure what row that is. 10ish I think. See you all there, although I will sadly be alone because none of my friends are crazy enough to go with me...

    ReplyDelete
  72. Sofia, I'll prob be here off and on, prob not too frequently, so to be safe if he's okay with it, sugarandopium at gmail dot com

    ReplyDelete
  73. The first show in Canada seems eerily similar to the the first show in the States...that being said....let's see what encore they throw at us.

    ReplyDelete
  74. @millertime

doubt has never ever been played live. it was the only album track until the 2004 album to have that distinction.

other voices has been played in 2007/2008.

    http://www.foreverdrowning.net/lasttime.php

    @craig

when it says comment deleted is that by you or the original poster...and if it is you why are some deleted?

    ReplyDelete
  75. It's from the person who posted. Usually a mistake in the post, so they delete it and post again.

    ReplyDelete
  76. well i would like to hear:
    burn
    2 late
    halo
    sugar girl
    the upstairs room
    all cats are grey
    lament
    treasure
    this twilight garden
    ocean
    a pink dream
    your god is fear
    doubt
    the caterpillar
    bird mad girl
    play with me
    i'm cold
    in your house
    siamese t
    doing the unstuck
    cut here
    taking off
    the last day of summer
    just one kiss
    piggy in the mirror
    give me it
    sinking
    the kiss
    perfect girl
    more than this
the same this water as you
    a letter to elise
    scared as you
    charlotte sometimes
    sign from god
    the 13th
    maybe someday
    before three
    truth godness and beaty

    but it's impossible....

    ReplyDelete
  77. @ram

In your list, I can see:

    A Letter To Elise
    Charlotte Sometimes
    Piggy In The Mirror

making an appearance this tour, in addition to what has already been played.

    ReplyDelete
  78. "Maybe Someday" has been played once in the States, so you've got a chance with that one!

Is "All Cats..." on the Faith encore?

    ReplyDelete
  79. while we're waiting for the setlist to update, i recommend the game, amateur surgeon! :D
    http://www.adultswim.com/games/game/index.html?game=surgeon

    ReplyDelete
  80. all cats on the faith encore.

oh how i miss those days.....

    ReplyDelete
  81. I've never gotten the Faith encore. :'( :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Hope Steve didn't go for a beer. : )

    ReplyDelete
  83. i wonder why they don't play many b-sides. the reason i mean. do they think it will just please less people?

    ReplyDelete
  84. @V

I've gotten the Faith encore once on the Dream Tour (Merriweather Post, Columbia, MD)..it was a religeous experience.

I;ve also seen Faith @ Radio City to close the Swing Tour..and on the "singles" Tour in 1986ish.

    Simply amazing live,

    ReplyDelete
  85. @sofia

I can think of 2 reasons:

1)they don't believe those are among their best songs regardless of what we think

2)they tour to sell albums and since those aren't on them...

they have played some and most bands have never played any. off the top of my head:
    I'm cold
    happy the man
    japanese dream
    the big hand
    splintered in her head
    another journey by train

    ReplyDelete
  86. if they played 2 late my head would explode.

    ReplyDelete
  87. This really is Fairfax revisited...though we got To Wish Impossible Things.

I can also say that is was the best version of A Forest since The Prayer Tour.

    ReplyDelete
  88. oh yeah signal to noise and the big hand on this tour...can't wait to hear s2n.

    ReplyDelete
  89. screw these setlists. i have NEVER been one to complain about setlists but i've become jaded and picky.

of course, when i see them this summer i'll be bobbing along to everything giddily, immersed in my happy cure-world.

    i'm such a sell-out.

    ReplyDelete
  90. I love when they play "M" live. We got that in Perth and it was fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Just want to pop in and say thank you to Craig and everyone who makes this live update possible. The live chats are quite fun. It's interesting to see how the setlist has changed (and how it has not changed) since their show in Hong Kong last summer...ahh, fond memories. (I actually got scars from the show as souvenirs, lol.)
Cure world would be boring without this site. :)

    ReplyDelete
  92. Thanks Jenny. How did you get scars?

    ReplyDelete
  93. hey clockwise: what would be your ultimate setlist this tour?

    ReplyDelete
  94. but that's just the thing. they are absolutely renowned for their b-sides. they don't play shows just to please themselves. i know i'm not the only one to ever bring this up but when you have so many songs to choose from- some wild variations would be nice. i guess there are more casual fans than not though.

    ReplyDelete
  95. for me, i'd want to hear

    chain of flowers
    2 late
    the figurehead
    plainsong (never heard it live)
    lovesong
    untitled (ain't happ'nin)
    bare
    jupiter crash
    high
    trust
    the kiss
    like cockatoos
    fight (would be awesome live)
    the snakepit
    push
    sinking
    the baby screams
    m
    in your house
    secrets
    boys don't cry
    disintegration
    before 3
    faith

and maybe a few others... ;)

    ReplyDelete
  96. First encore finished at 10:58. Here comes the pop. : )

    ReplyDelete
  97. oh, and they would have lost wishes playing as the smoke misted in while before the show started...

    ReplyDelete
  98. Craig, it was silly actually... I was running for the front row and got pushed by someone, so I got a nasty fall. Got blood all over my knees and elbows, but still happy as hell because I got first row, center, right in front of Robert. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  99. Oh, then it was well worth it! : )

    ReplyDelete
  100. Worth it, indeed!

On a side note, I noticed that they don't seem to play Shiver and Shake anymore. And The Figurehead.

    ReplyDelete
  101. When you look at the setlists so far, they are really similar to the european concerts, especially the encores. I think, the faith encore remains a dream. Not even in London they played faith, only once (Rotterdam?) .Of course I would grudge you the faith encore (plus forever). I wish you a little bit more changing in the song choice as we had in europe.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I know, Montreal is Canada not USA

    ReplyDelete
  103. Jenny: I saw "Shiver and Shake" in Hamburg in 2002...That is the only time I've ever heard it live! And I do miss all of the Pornography songs that I think were more common during the Dream tour (including "The Figurehead"). :) I'd love to hear "Siamese Twins" again!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Is there only one encore tonight? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  105. omg...i think montreal is going to get faith

    ReplyDelete
  106. I'm starting to wonder. Can't get in touch with Steve. Maybe an 11pm curfew?

    ReplyDelete
  107. craig at curefans.com
they say the old school encore was just played...in its entirety

    faith. faith. faith.

    ReplyDelete
  108. @ v: They did both songs in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong setlist was a little more "Pornography"-oriented than their later setlists during this tour. I was very surprised to hear The Figurehead in the HK show!

Siamese Twins would be fantastic to hear live. Actually all songs from Pornography are. (I myself is a big Short-Term Effect lover.)

The HK setlist was great, but to think that we didn't even get Play for Today...

    ReplyDelete
  109. So are they only getting 2 encores...or are they getting lucky? :)

    ReplyDelete
  110. The Cure needs to get its act together and realize that a 4Play-style version of "Pornography" would be one of the best things they've ever done. It would be an absolute shame if they don't play it.

    ReplyDelete
  111. @Jenny: Do you live in HK? :)

The only time I've heard "Siamese Twins" is on the Dream Tour - I was at the show where they played it for the first time in the US. What a great set list that was that night! I'd like to see them mix some Pornography back in to the sets during this tour!!

    ReplyDelete
  112. monkeybutt: that would take too long to type out, and i'm tired. but i will say that my ideal setlist would pull liberally from more recent efforts - and even play some of those neglected songs like truth goodness beauty - and also employ some choice b-sides like cof and fear of ghosts - and also of course do porno songs like figurehead and faith songs like HOLY HOUR and screw all the disint stuff except for plainsong, seriously, and don't open with that as it's just too obvious and safe. close with plainsong or do it in the middle or SOMETHING different with it - it's not 1989 for chrissakes and this is NOT the prayer tour!!

    can you tell i'm annoyed?!

these setlists suck ass. inject some life into it, robert!

yes, i'm another moany whiny cure fan. i've become jaded with time and the internet has ruined me.

i still love the cure. :-)

    off to bed. gnite sukaz!

    ReplyDelete
  113. i mean, robert said the postponement of the tour would be worth it, implying that the setlists would be stellar, blah fucking blah.

i need to get some shuteye before i start sounding like every cure fan i hate. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  114. Hrrm, Curefans is reporting "Freakshow", "Close to Me", and "Why Can't I Be You"...doesn't sound like the Faith encore... :)

    ReplyDelete
  115. :(

    actually i'm not sad...i mean it's not like i was there :)

    ReplyDelete
  116. @ V: No, I live in Taiwan and flew HK to see the show. And it was the best show I've ever seen. :)

They really need to put more Pornography stuff into their setlist. With Porl back, it would sound fantastic!

And they definitely need to play the Faith encore more often.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Ha! That's about as far away from Faith as you can get.

    ReplyDelete
  118. clockwise cat! :@ don't you draw that devil on the wall! i won't hear it!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Well at least they changed up the order of the encores a bit? :) Ending with WCIBY? seems different to me...

    ReplyDelete
  120. the BEST encore was the one in ATL during Curiosa when they did faith and then going nowhere. genuis! worked like a charm - lulled us all into a dreamy state and we just floated languorously home...

    ReplyDelete
  121. being on here and watching everything brings back so many memories... the cure definatly have a cult following... i just wish robert would stick his hand out a bit more and meet fans afterwards, some of us just want to see him and say hello... in anycase i love the cure and thanks for having all this great news... the cure are wonderful... i just want to hug them all...i know this is off topic, but why did porl originaly leave the band?

    ReplyDelete
  122. 1000000000000000000000000000000005666666666666666666666666666666666

    ReplyDelete
  123. porl left to play with led zeppelin

    ReplyDelete
  124. but also, hadn't he just married robert's sister and wanted to have a life? and then he played with plant/page?

    ReplyDelete
  125. lets see...well he left in 93. i think he got married to janet in 88?
    i don't know.

    ReplyDelete
  126. @ Paul or anybody who could help:

Please upload the better quality files of the new 2 songs on rapidshare, mediafire, sendspace.

There are a lot of fans in LatAm that we can´t get anything from megaupload.

    Thanxs in advance :-)

    P.S. it is a record, 132 comments to a single post ??

    ReplyDelete
  127. Sorry about that last comment. I would delete it, but I don't see how. Craig, if you ever do moderatey stuff, feel free to take that out.

Anyway, I was going to say, I remember an interview from around Disintegration when Porl expressed frustration with the direction of the band, in particular the influence of keyboards. He felt that guitar was a major component in what made The Cure's music cool, and it was getting smothered in these washes of synth.

Obviously Wish was a very guitar-heavy album, but I wonder if those differences of opinion remained a source of friction?

In any case, it's clear that his return to the band corresponds with a resurgence of that guitar-centric approach. Bloodflowers was a big guitar album, too, but it also had a lot of keys and sounded very tight and meticulously produced. The Cure (album) seriously sidelined the keyboard. Robert seems interested again in being a lively rock band, as opposed to stately gloom merchants. The last album showed that intent, but it was sorely lacking someone like Porl to bring that much-needed dynamic musicianship.

  128. People, people! Porl has left TWICE. The first time was because Robert was in his guitar minimalist stage at the time, and Porl wanted to be more creative, but Robert wouldn't let him, so Porl left. He came back in 1984, then left again after Wish to play with Page & Plant.

  129. I slept for perhaps five hours. I might try to get a couple more before I go to the Toronto show tonight. Oh, and I'll be providing the live setlist update this time. :)

  130. ok, wait a minute. didn't porl turn into some kind of gilled creature and HAD to leave the band to go live in the sea? i don't think it had anything to do with guitars...

  131. Lol, MonkeyButt! I think you're absolutely right! :) So, do you also know the story about how he ended up returning to a (somewhat) human form so he could live above water again?

  134. @MonkeyButt: I understand. Maybe one day he'll feel like sharing it with the world, but until then I will respect his privacy. :D

  135. I must gush! The Montreal show was simply hypnotizing! I wish it had never ended!! My second time seeing them, but this time from the fifth row directly in front of Porl! FIVE songs from Disintegration! Wearing my Disintegration shirt paid off for sure! The band was on fire, and having fun, and with no curfew in Montreal, they played the third encore! My only minor complaint was that I "wish" they had played Open or End, or did the KSKSKS encore with The Kiss and If Only Tonight....But, as my friend said, who's into all kinds of music, and goes to many, many concerts, this was the best show HE HAS EVER SEEN! The new songs (other than Freakshow, which I just can't get into - yet) sounded fantastic, so now I really can't wait for the album, "upbeat" that it may be. Thirty years down the road, and this band is simply on top of their game. Looks like it's a Trilogy/Festival/Show weekend for me on my new plasma TV!!!!!!!!!!!!
