  1. I think "13" is a really boring and predictable album title.

I really hope the title doesn´t give us a hint of the standard of the upcoming album lyrics.

  2. Geez give them a break, since when does an album title convey the content, have some faith

  3. I really hope not "13" is gonna be the title... "The Cure" 4 years ago now "13" sounds horrible and as the FINAL Cure album :( I hope not!

  4. So "13" is the title, huh? Was hoping for something a little more dramatic. But I'll deal with it.

However...This sudden obsession with the number 13 has me worried. I have a feeling that the double-album they keep talking about probably won't happen and that the final released version will have....You guessed it...Only 13 songs on it.

    Hopefully I'm wrong.

  5. and what about the press announcement that should have happen yesterday?

  6. If they are releasing 4 singles in four months AND the album is ONLY 13 tracks.. well I'm not sure what my point is..

It just seems odd that Robert would relase so much of an album as singles before the album launch proper.

If they are trying to whet our appetites with the singles it makes sense that it will be a double album following.

So double album = 2 pop singles and 2 gloomy ones? Only One and Freak Show plus 'A Boy I Never Knew' and ....??

  7. BTW...am I the only one who buys music here and notices a problem with this whole thing. These 4 singles cannot come out on the 13th of 4 consecutive months. US releases only come out on Tuesdsay and in the UK its Monday. Like in the Cure release new album on September 15/16. I can't believe no one has noticed this yet.

  8. I think that the "13 date" is possible with download stores, then the real stores will have the cds and 7" when they have....

  9. am I crazy or are the prices at ideal copy ridiculously over priced? Maybe its been awhile since I bought cd singles but they sure were not that much unless they are indeed imports to which my next question would be are domestic releases going to be the same format/songs etc etc?

  10. yo, we all be trippin like that shit gonna sell out and never been available again. like it's some kinda limited edition shit up in this place.

hmmm, don't ask me where that came from.

seriously, i'm not "pre-ordering" anything. the cure are on a major label; the major label will flood every possible outlet with as many of these things as possible. i'll stroll down to amoeba at some point & pick the singles up for half what ideal copy is charging. no hurry.

  12. always somethin to bitch about right? they are taking too long, the title sucks, over priced...next...the album sucks, i cant believe i waited for THIS...blah blah blah....

13 is kinda cool if you think of what it has to do with and all the unlucky superstitious stuff, but i guess nothing is good enough to satisfy anyone these days

  13. I think robert should name the album 'Me Fans Are Stupid Pigs.' And have an album of ambient sounds from him in his garden, plus some cat yowls. And charge $800 for it. I bet a few people would still buy it.

  14. besides i gonna be relaxing and enjoying the new cd while you (the stupid fans) are keep criticing it,saying "the new album is short, is very long,is very pop,is very dark,is very bla bla bla bla bla..." i advise for you...shut up...take it easy...post a real constructive and intelligent comment...bye...

  15. you're too right. because if the cure were to only release 10" splits with korn from now on exploring the limits of the slide whistle while on the toilet i would buy it! NO MATTER WHAT THE PRICE!!!

  16. gawd, bitching about 13 as an album title? REALLY?

Cos Faith, Pornography, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me are such indicators of song quality? Man...

    ReplyDelete
  17. and call it "an ode to fecal korn"!

    sweet!

    ReplyDelete
  18. i think the reason people are bitching about the title is because '13' will actually be (Gasp) the 13th album by the cure, and so perhaps people think it shows a bit of lack of imagination on the part of the band (robert) and are reading into it and thinking that perhaps the lyrics and music are going to reflect that lack of imagination.

am i on the mark about that?

  19. and that's, you know, not counting live, re-issues (i.e. boys don't cry) and singles comps (such as japanese whispers).

  20. from wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/13_(number)#Unlucky_13

Thirteen is regarded as an unlucky number in many cultures. Fear of the number 13 is termed triskaidekaphobia. The thirteenth of a month is likewise ominous, particularly when it falls on a Friday in some English-speaking cultures, Sweden, Russia and Germany (see Friday the 13th) or a Tuesday in the Greek and Spanish-speaking world.

    [edit] Suggested explanations

Thirteen may be considered a "bad" number simply because when a group of 13 objects or people is divided into two, three, four or six equal groups, there is always one leftover, or "unlucky", object or person.

It was suggested by Charles A. Platt writing in 1925 that the reason 13 is considered unlucky is that a person can count from 1–12 with their 8 fingers, two thumbs and 2 feet, but not beyond that, so the number 13 is unknown, hence frightening, hence unlucky.[1] This idea discounts the use of toes or other body parts in counting.

Some Christian traditions have it that at the Last Supper, Judas Iscariot, the disciple who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th to sit at the table.

According to another interpretation, the number 13 is unlucky because it is the number of full moons in a contemporary year, but two full moons in a single calendar month (mistakenly referred to as a blue moon in a magazine article of the 1940s) only happens about every 5 years.

Early nursery rhymes stated there were thirteen months in a year because of the natural moon cycle that was used to count the lunar year. In England, a calendar of thirteen months of 28 days each, plus one extra day, known as "a year and a day" was still in use up to Tudor times.

In Tarot decks, the 13th card of the Major Arcana is Death. While Death is rarely interpreted literally, it is possible that this furthered the perception of 13 as an unlucky number.

Another hypothesis about the origin of Friday the 13th as an unlucky day is attributed to this being the day that the Knights Templar were slaughtered in a collaboration between King Philip IV of France and Pope Clement V finishing with the burning at the stake of Jacques De Molay.

The legion with which Julius Caesar crossed the Rubicon was the Legio XIII Gemina or the 13th legion.

13 is the 6th prime number. 6 is sometimes considered an unlucky number due to its association with 666.

    Lucky 13

In Sikhism, the number 13 is considered a special number since 13 is tera in Punjabi, which also means "yours" (as in, "I am yours, O Lord"). The legend goes that when Guru Nanak Dev was taking stock of items as part of his employment with a village merchant, he counted from 1 to 13 (in Punjabi) as one does normally; and thereafter he would just repeat "tera", since all items were God's creation. The merchant confronted Guru Nanak about this, but found everything to be in order after the inventory was checked. April 13 also usually turns out to be Vaisakhi every year, which is the Sikh New Year and the major Sikh Holiday.

Several successful athletes have worn the number 13. Alex Rodriguez is said to be one of the most talented baseball players ever; he has also signed the biggest sports contract and wears the number 13. Dan Marino, an American football player known for passing more yards than any other quarterback in NFL history, wore the number 13, although pundits in the sport have often cited him as the greatest quarterback never to win an NFL championship. Basketball great Wilt Chamberlain wore the number 13 on his jersey throughout his NBA career. Also, FIBA rules require a player to wear the number in international competitions (only numbers from 4 to 15 could be worn, and as there are 12 players, one must wear 13); Chris Mullin, who wore #20 in college and #17 in the NBA, wore #13 for both (1984 and 1992) of his Olympic appearances. Shaquille O'Neal wore #13 in 1996, Tim Duncan wore #13 in 2004, Steve Nash is currently wearing it for the Phoenix Suns, and also Mats Sundin, wears 13 in the NHL. One of Iceland's all time best handball players, Sigurður Sveinsson, wore the number 13 when he played for the national team.

In Italy, 13 is also considered to be a lucky number.

Colgate University also considers 13 to be a lucky number. They were founded in 1817 by 13 men with 13 dollars, 13 prayers, and 13 articles. (To this day, members of the Colgate community consider the number 13 a good omen.) In fact, the campus address is 13 Oak Drive in Hamilton, NY and the all men a capella group is called the Colgate 13.

  21. i think 13 as a title makes alot of sense... i think by the end of the last time robert wasn't as pleased as he had hoped, and the "self-titled" album... the album that is supposed to define the band... was already used... this is kind of a way of self titling the album, and i think that the songs will be good and define the cure for a new generation... i hope anyway...

  22. Tempting. Can anyone tell me if prior Cure limited edition vinyl releases came to be worth anything?

Also, can anyone tell me if vinyl shipments from Ideal Copy have every arrived damaged with any dents or bends in the sleeve?

    Thanks in advance.

  23. One thing to keep in mind - 13 has not been confirmed as the title yet. I'm checking with Chris at Ideal Copy to see where they got that from.

  24. lordy, where in the hell is that 'official' announcement...pretty sad when an ebay seller breaks the news everyone has been waiting months (years?) for...i want to know if there is going to be a US release of these singles w/collector's box or if I'll have to import them...something I'd hope they would clear up with an official announcement...

  26. There finally seems to be a bit of a backlash on all the complaining. About time! Come on, this news on the singles is just the sort of thing everyone has been wanting, an innovation! its a wonderful plan, and I personally like '13' as a title if as Craig points out it is actually the title, it is rich with meaning and obviously has relevance for Robert, so just chill and bring on the joy of new material....whatever it may be like. A new Cure album is always better than no Cure album!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Craig you can certainly DJ, but first can you send a parcel bomb to Universal for being so slack with their press....i wonder if this supposed press release was going to list the other singles titles etc, I would presume all that info is locked in by now? I was hoping against hope for details on the album....a boy can dream....

  32. whats on the list if your djing.. can a request some SWANS tunes ? it is my big day after all:)

  33. So in 12 days we can download the new Cure single "The Only One" and buy the physical formats, then we will be able to do the same for the next three months to follow.

Being so close to a new release you would think their label would want to get some promotion going, after all I spoke to the New Zealand label and they had no idea any of this was happening, I told them all of the news and the supposed release strategy.

I think this speaks volumes not about the band, but the labels pathetic lack of interest in the band, rather than promoting the latest one hit wonders that will be forgotten in a yrs time, they could be promoting a band that has created over 30 wonderful yrs of music that resonates with so many people.

What gives Universal, Geffen, Suretone....is there anyone out there? does anyone care beside the fans?

  34. I'm anti-whining. The Cure has really lived up to their Promise. The demands on continued success are as follows - each new album must be different than the old stuff, the same as the old stuff and if you're lucky occasionally better than the old stuff. Fans get locked into that mindspace of the killer album that changed their lives in 1982. So now it's like 2000 and eight or something, I can't remember, whatever and what are we still listening to, A Flock Of Seagulls? Nope! The Cure! So NO whining!

  35. PS - releasing 4 singles prior to an album release sucks
