Porl gets a custom PT Fastback

  1. Is Schecter giving Porl and Robert some kind of huge endorsement deal or do they actually enjoy playing these guitars? I can't understand why someone would choose something that looks like a Hamer knock-off over the beauty/playability/tone of an original Fender or a Gibson Les Paul. At least Simon is still rocking the Thunderbird I suppose...

  2. I bought the Ultra Cure, and it is really sweet to play. It's HUGE, and it's heavy, but it sounds so good. I'm usually a Gretch fan, but this guitar sounds great for more moody stuff than my Gretch. I think Schecter is doing a good job, and also in the article I read that interviewed Robert about his guitar he said he had been playing one and then talked to Schecter about a custom job.. so he liked it first. But who could blame them for wanting an endoresement deal? How flattering! And I'm sure they wouldn't do it if they didn't like the guitars.

  3. All Robert plays now is his UltraCure and his signature acoustic. For a man who owns around 100 guitars, he's sure limiting himself.

  4. Well, that's all he's playing live. Surely he's playing additional stuff in studio.

  5. I think Robert is bound by contract to Schecter. During the festivals in 2005, he wasn't even playing an acoustic guitar.
During the European Tour 2008, he played his signature acoustic and a signature 6 string bass - all by Schecter.

  6. He has a signature six string bass, too? When was this produced? Oh, and I can't imagine that Robert is under any contractual obligation to play just Schecter guitars, but I could be wrong. Perhaps he's just more comfortable with these, since he helped to design them?

Check the link below - it is Robert live with a Schecter 6 strings bass (you can tell by the pickups configuration and the three little switches, very much like a Fender).
I don't think it is a commercial release though, since it is not listed anywhere at Schecter.com.

  8. I agree with themisnomers, in my opinion Schecter makes nice/quality guitars. I own both the Ultracure and Porl's signature Corsair guitars and they are both great. My guitarist friends who have tried my Cure guitars love them too. I think it is nice that some bands play guitars other than Fender and Gibson. It adds variety to the scenery and gives other brands a chance to make a name for themselves.

  9. interesting photo... a modified 6 string bass/ultracure. i have the schecter hellcat VI like the one that perry used to play... it's much better than the fender bass VI... so much so that i sold the fender... schecter's do strike me as cheapish though... just picky stuff, like poor fret wiring, and an uneven clear coat job... the sound is good though especially on the signature models...

  10. oh yes... i should also mention that i also have the ultra cure, very versatile tone. if i had more money i get the porl siganture(s) as well as the signature acoustic... but in all honesty, with the Line6 variax and both the podxt live, and pod x3 live i can create tones that haven't even been thought of yet. you can use the variax workbench to build guitars, pickup placement, wood, body, neck, alt tunings etc... and it all sounds natural... not midi-like... all string bends etc are just like the real deal. anyway... www.line6.com if you are remotely interested...
