  1. It has got a kind of 'Standing On A Beach' sleeve feeling, hasn't it?

  2. yes it has
    and #478 is Arcade Fire's Funeral mk2

  3. I had that one open in my browser window for the longest time, wondering...

Congrats to the lucky person who bought it!

  4. Not sure. Hoping Robert might post about it, now that the secret is out. Someone told me it's a photo of hid dad, but I have no idea if that's true.

  5. just a curespotting. Tonight on France 2 tv evening news, there was a report on the Record Store Day (Disquaire Day) in a shop in Paris, and one could see hands flipping through records and stopping by Entreat Plus.

  6. Brilliant composition. So many words and sentiments come to mind. I won't ever see sand castles the same way again.

Hope his birthday was exceptional. <3

  7. This single designed of Mr Robert Smith is out on ebay right now;)

  8. Did you tell Talenthouse or TCT? Even if someone bids, maybe they can bid £1 more to buy it back from this guy. There is no way we can prevent other people to bid on ebay, I don't see any other solution, unfortunately.

  9. ooh so glad i discovered your blog via Secret7s! I also took part in this great project, though my cure cover wasn't chosen :) anyway, some GREAT artwork on the show and thanks for sharing and revealing some names :) but this guy posting on ebay made me really furious though. hope whoever buys the vinyl will give the money to charity.

  10. This one is mine(Erin Dawson): http://www.secret-7.com/cdn/images/slides/065.jpg

It apparently sold to one of the first 15 people in, as my boyfriend had someone go there to buy it for him, but he was let in about 5 minutes after the first group. I'm happy that it seems to have gone to someone that must have really liked it. :) As for Robert's quickly ending up on ebay... I'm burning up over it! Truly sad. :(

  11. Erin, I absolutely LOVE your sleeve, so I can only imagine that it would sell quickly :).

I will never understand what some of these sleeves have to do with the songs they supposedly represent, but I guess I can live with that. Mine not being chosen will probably continue to sting for awhile, but I won't let myself lose anymore sleep over it.

My bitterness aside, there are some wonderful pieces of art in this collection, and I wish I could've gone to the exhibition!

  12. Thank you so much, ghanisbuli! That really means a lot, and I'm very sorry that yours wasn't picked. I had given up hope before finally getting notice, so somewhat understand...

  13. Having been there and first in line, i can confirm that the most obvious sleeves were snapped up within 1 or 2 minutes....The first 10 people in line were obviously there for the Cure and i can tell you that, out of the first 4 people including me, a total of at least 25 sleeves were bought...They were letting 10/15 people at a time and i reckon 75pct of Cure sleeves were sold in the first 5 minutes( though it doesn't come as a surprise, does it?).
Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and i can't back up my claim but i would say the guy who bought Robert's design knew what he was going for.He was next to me paying and i only got a glimpse of the sleeve when i heard it was Robert's..i asked to see it but he was very quick in hidding it and get out.Shame it is on sale already...

    1. I was near him in the queue...near but not at the front...if he had known surely he would have got there even earlier to make sure he got it? If I'd known which was Roberts' I would've camped out overnight to make sure I got it...not turned up an hour or two before!!!...but then he obviously isn't a fan

  14. i don't want to sound like a dick or anything but i think it seems a bit unfair that all the cure 7"'s were bought by just handful of people. it would have been nice if they would have allowed one person to buy just one 7". so more people could have enjoyed them. just saying...

    1. I agree, 4 people buying more than 25 when there are only a 100 does seem a bit unfair to everyone else! Although I loved the whole idea, did think they should of limited initially to 5, allowing more either later yesterday or today. Like you, just saying...

    2. Sorry, realised there is already a Kate (as opposed to kate) will change to avoid any confusion!!

  15. also i'm pretty sure the person who bought robert's sleeve was tipped off. the ebay seller is called "rock-collectibles". it seems too much of a coincidence that this person happened to get robert's sleeve.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Can't argue with you on that Antti, but rather that than putting them up on ebay...at least i know for sure where my money went...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Number 297 seems to be up on ebay as well :/

  18. I hate scalpers. They're often not even badly off people. Just pricks.

  19. Hello, I am Sergio Salla from spain and I designed the selected #191 cover for The Cure's "Friday I'm inlove" . Hope you like it. Please let me know if anyone got it. Thank you.

  20. I was lucky enough to be chosen but don't know my number (is it in alphabetical order, like the list on the black board?)

  21. Hi Sergio. Yes, Darren bought your sleeve. Would you like me to ask him to contact you?

    ReplyDelete
  22. I'm tempted to contact the seller of Robert's sleeve and tell him what a jerk he is.

  24. Ok, thanks Craig. I use this opportunity to thank you again to put together all these datas here, it's always a pleasure to check COF everyday (I mean several times a day!).

    ReplyDelete
  25. Antti - Just to put your mind at ease. I arrived at 6 am to queue and bought 6 copies. These copies will be shared out with real cure fans who couldn't make it to the event - and not for profit.

  26. Hello!
I designed the sleeve no.25 and i would like to know if someone got it!
    Here's a pic http://www.secret-7.com/cdn/images/slides/025.jpg

Also, making money of these is wrong :(

  27. robert's sleeve is already £1000 and there's still 8 days left of the auction. this really pisses me off!

    ReplyDelete
  28. It sounds as if the entire thing was rigged to allow the profiteers first call on everything. If the organizers do this again, I hope they will at least hold back the works done by the celebs and auction them off using a legit firm.

The fact that these bastards have made charities a vehicle for their profit-making schemes is unforgivable. To think that Teenage Cancer Trust made only £40 off this piece and it's at £1000 and counting on ebay now is disgusting. Surely something can be done to deter these assholes in the future.

    ReplyDelete
  29. now the seller claims that they will be giving the money to charity:

"In reply to the several emails we have received about this item, we regularly donate to charity but keep this a private matter. We do not wish to use our charitable donations as a source of PR and therefore we keep quiet about it and simply get on with doing what we happen to think is right.

As far as this item is concerned, however, since people have been asking we are making an exception to our rule of not discussing these matters. Proceeds from the sale of this item will be donated to charity.

Nevertheless, it is important to understand that this is not a formal charity sale and our donations will simply be an extension of what we regularly do anyway. If you really want the item, please bid what you think it is worth to you. Please bid purely as a commercial transaction and not as a charitable donation. If you want to make a charitable donation there are plenty of charities out there for you to choose causes which are important to you which you can support directly."

i hope they really do this!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I find this very hard to believe! If they were serious they'd withdraw the auction and give it to TCT to auction!

    ReplyDelete
  31. and call me a cynic but they just state "proceeds" rather than "ALL proceeds"

    ReplyDelete
  32. His attitude wasn't very charitable at the gallery! Brave though, putting his address on the listing...or foolish!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. For me Robert was the only allowed person to put his artwork into auction. Sorry but I'm not convinced but the statement.

    ReplyDelete
  34. having robert's would've been very very nice. BUT I WANTED ANDY VELLA'S!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Check out Cure.com!....Robert that's BRILLIANT!!!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Robert's response is ***PERFECT***

  37. MY SLEEVE WAS PUT UP ON EBAY THE DAY IT WAS BOUGHT...

AS THIS WHOLE SECRET 7 EVENT WAS DESIGNED TO RAISE MONEY AND AWARENESS FOR THE TEENAGE CANCER TRUST I FIND THIS MORE THAN A LITTLE DISHEARTENING...

IF THE FORCED BELATED PROTESTATIONS ARE TO BE BELIEVED
"As far as this item is concerned, however, since people have been asking we are making an exception to our rule of not discussing these matters. Proceeds from the sale of this item will be donated to charity."
THEN WOULD IT NOT BE BETTER TO SIMPLY TAKE THE ITEM DOWN AND GIVE IT TO THE TEENAGE CANCER TRUST TO AUCTION?

    ...BAH!

    ANYWAY
    MY ADVICE?
DONT BOTHER BIDDING ON THIS ITEM
AS IN THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS ON EBAY YOU WILL UNDOUBTEDLY FIND...

  38. Great to have a positive ending to this, it's been bothering me since I found out.

    1. So it's not me? I tried to as soon as I saw it on cure.com this morning! I don't post very often so wasn't aware there was a problem, thanks.

  40. RS totally, totally rocks. We should have known that he'd figure out a way to foil that soulless tout.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This announcement by Robert brought me so much happiness - what a brilliant way to deal with it! <3

    ReplyDelete
  42. Easy way to stop this guy from making a profit would be if lots of people happened to bid on it then not pay. The worst punishment anybody would have to worry about would be a "None payment strike" which is no big deal. Just saying!

    ReplyDelete
  43. seven copies eh? one for each day of the week, why should faling in love be exclusive to friday (or indeed Record Store Day) Now wouldnt it be great if instead of being numbered each copy would be given a unique day of the week...thanks robert....

    ReplyDelete
  44. Best, I agree but wouldn't it get people into troubles ? I hate this kind of liars, so much.

A totally different subject : did someone noticed that the official forum and comments are blocked on the official site since February ? I also find surprising that Geffen/Suretone still appear on thecure.com...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Nah. It doesn't get people into trouble

    ReplyDelete
  46. But wouldn't the guy just re-list it? Or do it every time he puts it up?

    ReplyDelete
  47. yes, i think he would get tired soon, after re-list it 5-6 times;)

    ReplyDelete
  48. TODAY IS BORIS WILLIAMS' BIRTHDAY I BELIEVE...

    :)

  49. the clown who's selling the single could ban the fake bidders, so you'd probably only be able to ruin his sale once. i'll have a go just before the auction ends :)
