Secret 7" launch party

"Just got back from the Secret 7" launch preview, some nice sleeves in there (amongst some less nice, but isn't art subjective..to be debated...)
Anyway i got there at 6.30 pm and stayed for 45 minutes........... it got crowded very quickly...here's some shots, sorry about the quality, they were taken on my Iphone....
Nice to see all the names of the people who submitted artworks mentioned (Robert Smith, Andy Vella, .......and Bunny Lake amongst others)..." (Thanks Perfect.Murder).

Update: Added 3 more photos from Perfect.Murder, and Secret 7" have posted photos to their Facebook.

Update 2: And some more from Perfect.Murder - The Many Faces of Secret 7" Robert Smith. : ) And a video posted by Secret 7".

Update 3 (04/21/12):  "Just got back from Secret 7"....I was first in line this morning with my friend Darren..Managed to buy a few of the ones i had an eye on...and it's all made it worthwhile getting there at 5.40 am!!!As i was paying, a guy next to me was lucky to buy Robert's design(unbeknown to him until he paid of course).....Robert's sleeve's number?? Easy as as Jackson 5 song starting with ABC :)" (Thanks Perfect.Murder)

  1. JC, thank you so much for posting these! I love these photos. I wonder if Robert will visit the exhibit? Wish we could be there with you!! I know I'd snap up two or three for sure! :D

  2. Yeah, thanks JC!!! These pics are really cool to see all the way from far away land!!!! ;0) So that cover with RS face, I think RS painted that one. Do they have the artist names on them or are the name just listed on the kiosk? Did you do one JC?

  3. Hi!No i didn't submit, though i wish i had now...the covers are just exhibited in rows..no names given..i did ask the curator (aha) which was Robert's entry, but understandably he wouldn't tell.

  4. why on earth would RSX make a cover that has his own face?!

  5. Antti, perhaps for the same reason that three Cure album covers have Robert's face (Pornography, Disintegration, Bloodflowers) and one has his lips (Kiss Me x3)?

  6. There are a couple of very similar sleeves with a drawn Robert's head, so i don't think it's his design, unless he managed to sneak in 2 entries :)..I have sent a couple more pictures to Craig that might uploaded later on.

  8. OK - so how many were chosen for each sleeve? There are SO MANY!

  9. Or - not each SLEEVE - but for each artist's song?

  10. Chris - There are roughly 100 for each single, so around 700 in total.

  11. Ah I see. Now were these the 100 that were voted on by us? Which ones were chosen by the bands? Can we tell which ones were chosen by Robert and which ones were automatically included because of voting? I was never clear on this to begin with! Lol! Sorry!

  12. I wonder which one Robert made! :D

  13. For each artist: 5 were voted on by the public, and 45 were selected by the bands. The rest, to quote Secret 7":

"The remainder of the sleeves have been designed by some of the most interesting and exciting artists working today. To name just a few: David Shrigley, Michael Spencer Jones (Oasis, Verve), Andy Vella (who did the original sleeve for Friday I’m In Love), Central Station (Happy Mondays, Black Grape), Toby Mott (De La Soul), Stylorouge (Blur, The Cure, Morrissey), Richard Evans (The Who) and Grammy winner Peter Corriston (The Rolling Stones, Billy Idol, Carole King, Debbie Harry, Led Zeppelin, New York Dolls and Tom Waits). Contemporary illustrators and artists, as well as youngsters who receive support from TCT, make up the remainder of the creative team supplying the completely unique sleeves."

  14. And no one will know who designed the sleeve, or what single it's actually for, until they buy it. That's the whole concept of it being a Secret 7".

Though some are very obvious as to which song/artist they're for.

  15. Thanks for clearing that up for me Craig! I hadn't read about the other artists contributing - well I think I DID but I guess I was thinking they wouldn't be lumped all together with the fans' art. There's just SO MANY! It would be nice to KNOW which ones Robert picked and which were top 5 voted. Well I guess THOSE people know! :) But I want to know too!

  16. Haha I'm pretty sure those drawings of Robert Smiths face are David Shrigleys!
