'Play Out' on Vimeo
As far as I know, you can't buy the 'Play Out' video anywhere, and I haven't heard anything about it being released again, so I guess it's okay to post this. Correct me if I'm wrong, and I'll remove it. (Thanks Ema and Sonic More Music)
Well that didn't last long. Here's hoping it's a sign that this will be getting released on DVD/Blu soon.

Ohhhh, i doubt they (band or Universal) will allow that, it's not just a one song video, it's the full movie.
ReplyDeleteBut well, it might give them the idea to release it on dvd/blue ray finally (it's about time, it's such a great documentary!)
Is this the American or European version?
ReplyDeleteAmerican.
DeleteIs there a difference between then?
ReplyDelete24 minute difference. All of Day 3 (the Jonathan Ross stuff) and some of the Unplugged stuff.
DeleteFrom the sadly gone, yet still available via Wayback Machine, Impression of Sounds:
"The US release is missing 24 minutes of material, including two songs performed on MTV Unplugged. Prior to the release
of the tape, the complete version was broadcast on Pay-Per-View there as
"On Stage, Off Stage, and More".
I have the Pay-per-view version on tape, recorded that night it broadcast so long ago... and It was still missing all of the stuff that was on the UK VHS later.
DeleteIf we're showing old unavailable movies.
ReplyDeleteThere is Siouxsie And The Banshees - Play At Home that aired on Channel 4 during 1984.

If you're not interested in Robert Smith dressing up as Alice from Alice in Wonderland then there is always this clip that freaks me out.

Play At Home is available on one the Banshees DVDs. Maybe Nocturne?
ReplyDeleteOh sweet. I played this video so much it wore the tape through. I remember it was called Universal yet Simon quite clearly says, "Oh fuck me", when he drops the snowman out the window. I always thought that Boris had too hard a time in this video, he became the new Lol. Oh well.
ReplyDelete*Rated Universal, not called Universal. 01:26:33 is where Simon swears.
ReplyDeleteHaha, I nicked 'Oh fuck me' as a catch phrase for years.
ReplyDeleteInteresting the Boris comments, I didn't see him treat badly at all.
Ha Crimson, so did I ... small world ... or easily influenced.
ReplyDeleteWatch it again, he's not poorly treated physically a la Lol, but he his downtrodden upon, psychologically.
Just my opinion though.
Awesome. I got this years ago on VHS. Nice to have it online -- as well as not having to rewind constantly to watch "The Big Hand."
ReplyDeletethat first secret show gig... admit you want to be able to travel back in time and be there!!! so amazing. love the Cure in all their incarnations - throughout all the years.
ReplyDeletewatching old stuff does make me feel terribly sad and longing for days of youth... it can be bitter to. sigh, why so little time on the spinning ball to enjoy???
this tape was/is the greatest! the GREATEST! i would've given anything to be at that secret gig.
ReplyDeleteYou removed most of the non-music stuff. Double awesome! I watched/listened to it while going through the drudgery of making my big salad.
ReplyDeleteI shared it on twitter in excitement. I hope that didn't cause this to be removed. Sorry if it did.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit bummed that I missed this before it was taken down

ReplyDeleteUS version on YouTube
I have the whole UK/Europe version on VHS & DVD. I bought it online quite a while ago - from a brilliant collectors store. also got Show & Staring At The Sea on VHS from the same website. still get emails from them. I converted them all to DVD myself to preserve the tapes, because they're still in good condition. the US version of Play Out leaves out a lot of brilliant footage - such a shame.
ReplyDeletea friend of mine could have had copies from me, but he talked himself right out of that when he said my DVDs must be shit because they'd been converted from VHS. not a smart move.
