"Jason Cooper who drums in The Cure, he did all the percussion on the record. It's definitely got their influence in there."
The album, 'Froot', won't be released until April 6th, 2015, but the first video from it was released today. (Thanks @Ligia_Berg)
Update (03/15/15):
They all seem to have much time. Of course, The Cure is dead!
ReplyDeleteThe Cure Are Dead
DeleteThe Cure IS dead!
DeleteCrimson, I hope that wasn't a grammar correction. Click on the link.
DeleteAhem, anyway...moving on (sheepish grin)...
DeleteIt's a good song, but erm, no, I don't hear any Cure influence.
Delete@DSC Sure it's not CURE influence but JASON COOPER influence. It's so clear that he belongs to that kind of music than with The Cure.. that he should be replaced immediately!
DeleteJust in Case: Jason Cooper influence means electronic sounds, easy rhythms, average sound, disco beats, No-Cure-Vibe-or-Soul.
Yeah really the Cure except for the vocals. Big respect for Craig to navigate us through all these years with virtually no news from our beloved band. Imagine all that effort while the Cure is hybernating.
ReplyDeleteHopefully he will get some credit from the Cure one day. Thanks man
totally agree.
DeleteI like it. Groovy. Hot woman as well
ReplyDeleteIts good that the cure do other stuff as well.....as lots of other members of bands do....imagine doing nothing but the same band stuff for thirty years....limiting....
ReplyDeleteI would actually love to know how that works, i.e. are some/all of the band contracted to The Cure in any way and need clearance to do work like this, or otherwise do they ask RS's blessing to do so.
ReplyDeleteOh, that would be interesting.
DeleteAnother question that will never be answered i suppose...
I suppose they can do whatever they want whenever The Cure as a band is not at work.
Although Robert may not hesitate and criticise them and say 'this band is shit'.
Jason works on film scores and probably drums with other bands but we don't know, Roger we all know what he's doing as he communicates about it, and Reeves is a famous guitar player.
So there is no contract apparently...
But that would be very interesting to know the exact terms and conditions.
i wouldn't have thought anyone is contracted apart from when it comes to royalties etc... i would have thought the Cure are passed that point...i suspect its all very chilled out....
ReplyDeleteAnyway....a strange choice for a bit of moonlighting....
ReplyDeleteMarina, in the UK at least, is held in about as much artistic esteem as Taylor Swift.
She's just another carefully managed artist who was touted around in various guises until one of them finally worked.
I have no idea if she is even remotely known around the world, but she's very much kids pop music over here.
agree marina is a bit kids pop though what was Lovecats ? and FIIL ? i actually think she writes some ok stuff and at least she writes her own songs and is creative which is a shit load more than me !!!
DeleteI've little respect for her since I heard an interview where she said that she tried several styles until she found one that sold records. It's just about the money and fame, fortunately she's not making much of either

DeleteGet to know her, you might be surprised. Best thing in pop music this decade and second in my all time favorites now, only behind The Cure. Tour (in big venues, unlike last time I saw her) is selling out stunningly fast by the way, so fame seems to be doing quite ok. Not that it matters.
DeleteNever ever heard about this band before.
ReplyDeleteActually, I really like Marina. She really had some good thoughts / lyrics on her last album and even if it's not comparable to The Cure it's still respectable music. And an artist with integrity. That's good.
ReplyDeleteHas Simon done anything of late?
ReplyDeleteCycled. And played FM15. A lot.

ReplyDeleteFrom Tim Pope on Twitter.
Maybe Jason decides to leave The Cure and stay with Marina...???
ReplyDeleteAnd 20 years later Robert decides to let go of the grudge against Boris? That would be nice.
DeleteOne more album, and get Boris and Porl back for it.
That would be a dream came true! .. In my humble opinion, I think that Jason should be practicing more interesting drum rhythms, patterns, creating clever intros, improve his work with the cymbals and his drum sound, than going on vacations with another band.
Delete20 years and same of the so called fans don't get tired of bashing Jason. Don't you think this is a bit unfair?
DeleteAnyway, in my opinion he is still the best drummer the Cure ever had. Just open your ears and don't be so small minded - you will hear it. And if not just quit being a fan...
I don't want to sound rude but I bet you are a new fan who discovered The Cure with Wild Mood Swings. Older fans who grew up with The Top (or even earlier) had the privilege and the happines to witness the release of great albums like The Head on the door, Kiss Me x3, Disintegration and Wish. The singles were aired all day by local radio stations, the videos in various local TV shows, MTV News constantly talked about the band etc!
DeleteWonder years that ended in 1993 if you know what I mean.
P.S. 'so called fans' that can think and criticize are more beneficial for a band than 'so called fans' who blindly follow them.

ReplyDeletei like it very much the way the drums bangs in.
ReplyDeleteThis isn't the first time that Jason has been in other bands. In fact, this release with Marina has Jason on every track but one(per Discogs). In 2014 he released a record Anna Aaron, called Neuro. He was the only drummer on that record. I doubt it's about contract allowance, since it appears that everyone else does their own thing at will.

PS..Jason rules...
I like Marina a lot. Jason will not play in live with Marina because she got a band he only plays in the record.
