Excellent photos from Denver Riot Fest

More excellent photos from Mauro Melis, this time from Riot Fest in Denver. See them at Sound of Violence. And more posted here. (Thanks Mauro)

  1. I like that photo a lot. RS always looked good with the Fender VI but those Schecter guitars have definitely grown on me.

    1. Eh, he puts stickers all over them for a reason. All those Fender, Gibson, Gretsch, Ovation, and other guitars looked (and sounded) a lot better.

Maybe he gets some money from Schecter for only playing their guitars now?

I kind of wish Fender would make a guitar with him. Johnny Marr's sounds and feels great.

    1. Yeah, that many drugs and alcohol definitely don't make for aging well... that is a nice photo, though.

    2. Are you kidding..."drugs and alcohol" ??? He looks here at least 10 - 15 years younger. You don't need "drugs and alcohol" to look old. Sometimes all it takes is just to lose some weight, but then again, we don't want all our heroes to be adult EDO cases, do we ?

    3. No, I'm not kidding. Robert is pretty notorious for how much he drinks and having done tons of drugs over the years. I'm not knocking him personally - anyone who lives an unhealthy lifestyle for decades will not look very well as they get into their 40s and 50s. It's his choice to live that way, and I'm sure he doesn't really care how fans or the public think he looks. Being called "Fat Bob" used to bother him, but that was a long time ago.

As for a hero, he is an excellent musician, and one of the best vocalists in rock history. I wouldn't label him a hero, though. Robert himself has stated he wouldn't want to be thought of as a role model or hero, because he'd make a bad one, given how he lives his life. Check out the interview he did at Pinkpop in 2012 on YouTube.

  3. That first picture is amazing. It doesn't look like it was taken in a live setting, though; looks like a promotional picture. Thanks.

  4. I'm 42, OK? He is MY personal hero. I don't care very much what other people think about him. And your healthy lifestyle preaching is just boring and very self righteous, if I may say. If you're into music for the looks, than it's a different story. I really believe that if he was 100 % sober 100 % of the time, he would have been the most boring person and probably we wouldn't have heard of him at all. I'm not saying "drugs and alcohol" make you creative. I'm just saying that you're judgmental in kinda of a nerdish way (sorry, now I'm judgmental, too...apologies). He speaks about refusing to be a "role model". I'm not saying he's my role model. Although I'd love to have a drink (or more) with him, and (sadly) I doubt that he takes any drugs now (at least illicits:)
