Is 'Just Like Heaven' The Cure's best song?

From Music Times:
7 Artists Whose Best Song Isn't On Their Best Album
6. The Cure - "Just Like Heaven" (1987)
It might be a little lame and unoriginal to think that a band's most popular song is its best, but the Cure's "Just Like Heaven" is truly a tour de force of pop songwriting. Unfortunately, the rest of the songs on Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me don't even come close to reaching the same heights. The albums released before and after it, The Head on the Door and Disintegration, are the band's two best. (Thanks Perfect.Murder)

  1. Agreed. I consider "Kiss me" a surprisingly and unexpected weak effort ("The Head on the Door" is one of the most accomplished pop records of all time) . It would make a good/very good single album if it was released with 10 songs, at most.

  2. I like Kiss Me, but if feels RS was trying too hard. JLH doesn't even come close to being their best song. I do like it, but definitely not their best song. THOTD, aside "Screw" (funny how I used to love it), is a perfect album.

    1. Holy cow, I don't like "Screw", either; it's the only song from the album I didn't put on my ipod! Cool to know I'm not alone. :)

  3. What a lame comment. There are such great songs on KMKMKM that i like more than JLH : The Kiss, All i want, Like Cockatoos, WCIBY?, to name a few.

  5. How utterly dumb. As if there was an official chart of Cure albums. It's not as if Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me isn't one of the best albums of that decade. Whether 'Head' or 'disintegration' is better or not is an argument about the Pope's beard.

  6. Ever notice how ANY comment about the Cure is met with an endless wave of fan protest?

  7. 'JLH' is a great song, but I wouldn't say that it's their best, though I think that it's definitely in the Top 5.

  8. I must stand up for what i've always said is the Cure's best song. Just Like Heaven! I've seen friends and fans who only go to a Cure concert to hear Faith spinning and singing at the top of their lungs during JLH... it's song crafting perfection!!! :) :) :) KMKMKM

  10. While many rightly love "Just Like Heaven" more than any other Cure pop song, including my big brother who got me into the band, I've long preferred "Friday I'm In Love" and especially "Love Song."

  12. Just Like Heaven was the gateway drug for me. Got me into the band. Then I discovered the rest of the catalog.

  13. I think KM KM KM is their best album, hands down, perfect all the way through including every b-side and To the Sky. Disintegration is their best work however if considering songwriting. I also think Just Like Heaven is easily their best single for both appeal and songwriting.

  15. Without doubt, the best cure song is "Plainsong" and it is on Disintegration, their best album
