  2. tom- ooh that would've been nice!
i'm looking forward to this sidebyside lp though. i think we had to wait until march 20th for the list to happen last year, but it's never too early to harass your local record store early and often! ;)

  3. Seeing as this is 7" I wonder if they will use the real 7" remix from the 1987 7" vinyl single, only found elsewhere as the video clip. It's about 10 seconds shorter than the 12" remix used on Galore and Greatest Hits etc. Love Dinosaur Jr.

    1. I have never heard any difference between the album version and the remix version (as with many other singles). Where am i supposed to find that shorter version?

    2. I'd also like Brent to elaborate.

    3. The remix single versions clearly sound different to the mix if the KMKMKM album version, just listen to the sound of the snare and bass drum, all you need to hear is the first 5 seconds (Bob Clearmountain did the single mix).

The 7" remix is only found on the 7" vinyl and the video clip.
The 12" remix is found on the 12" vinyl and Galore and Greatest Hits.

The 7" and 12" are the same remix, but the 7" is edited about 10 seconds shorter than the 12", part of Porl's guitar is edited out in between "I'll run away with you" and "Spinning on that dizzy edge".

    4. That's amazing that you noticed that. I never had!

It's weird that the vinyl says "Elektra", as I thought that company didn't exist anymore.

    5. It's also on the CD Single - I've always found the Clearmountain mix warmer than the album, if that means anything. Same for How Beautiful You Are...

    6. (I take that back, the CD Single has the 12" remix.)

    7. Oh yes indeed, there is a little guitar part edited out between "i'll run away with you" and "spinning on that dizzy edge", I had never noticed!
      Thanks Brent.

Now i'm looking for some crackle/fade in-out thing Crimson Tonight wrote about, can't find it yet.

  6. Erm..one version (the single I think) has something weird happen to it, it does some crackle/fade in-out thing.

  7. I will most probably require someone to buy it for me, so if you think you can help, please let me know, thanks.

  8. I'm away a couple of days, need to check which version has this fade. It's the main synth line cuts out a bit...I believe after the first verse. Surprised if nobody else has never noticed.

  9. A crackle fade in / fade out thing?, sounds like you're talking about vinyl crackles / pops...
If you're just refering to a synth fading in or out there's a bazillion differences like that for most of the singles if you're going to compare the album versions to single remixes, going right back to The Hanging Garden single you'll hear piano notes which aren't in the album version... Even A Forest 7" can only be found on the 7" vinyl, Standing On A Beach compilation and the video clip used the album version with the guitar/keyboard intro cut off, in the first couple of seconds during the first guitar notes of the song you can hear the keyboard from the guitar/keyboard intro fading out... The 7" vinyl is properly silent. Greatest Hits uses the 7" vinyl but for some odd reason has a whole chunk edited out, it's really bizarre actually, the edit on Greatest Hits is the only place that version has ever been relased...., the edit doesn't even sound that good, when I first heard it I thought my CD skipped, but they're all like that....

  10. I have an interesting story about this topic. Back in 1989 KROQ played the Dinosaur Jr. version one time and it was late at night. They didn't even say who performed it. It was a complete throwaway thing for them. I almost thought it might have been Porl singing it. I toyed with the idea of it being a cover but this was back before The Cure allowed covers of their songs. I listened to KROQ for the next several weeks thinking I'd hear it again. But I never did.

Finally I called the station up and asked them to play "that 'other version' of Just Like Heaven." They didn't know what I was talking about. I said, "Well, several weeks ago I heard it one time late at night and then never heard it again. It was more guitar-driven and had a different person singing." The guy I was talking to said, "I don't know if there is such a thing, but it does sound interesting. I'll look around and try to find it." The next day it was back on the radio and they started to play it something like every 2 hours. And right after that everyone started hearing about Dinosaur Jr.

  11. To the other Shawn who's recently sent stuff to Craig, we need to find a way to distinguish ourselves from one another, because I've been following COF since '97 and would prefer not to be confused with you, not that I have anything against you. :)

  12. Kind if odd, I've had all of Dinosaur Jr's albums (and have been going to their shows) for 20 years, and Just Like Heaven is pretty much my least favourite, I just like to hear The Cure play it, and DJr play their own songs...

PS - I just read my previous message in this thread from 2-3 weeks ago, and I didn't explain it quite clearly, I think I was rushing typing on my phone...
To be clearer, A Forest on Greatest Hits CD is different to Standing On A Beach and the Seventeen Seconds album. Standing On A Beach is the same as the album version but has the guitar/keys intro cut off, but Greatest Hits CD is edited to the video clip length, however bizarrely the first couple of seconds on the Greatest Hits CD is totally silent, but in the video clip you can heard the keyboard intro fading out as it's just been chopped off the start (you can also hear on Standing On A Beach CD it's also just been chopped off the start), making Greatest Hits the only time this version/edit has beean available on CD. I can't remember exactly now about the 7", haven't had a record player for 20 years, it might be the Greatest Hits CD version, although the time stamp on the photos of the vinyl label are a different time, but I think they're unreliable to go by, as I have 7" Forest vinyl with the time stamp for Another Journey By Train b-side with 36 seconds differences, which is obviously incorrect!

You can see this one says 3min36secs:

    And this one says http://s.pixogs.com/image/R-262145-1215949701.jpeg
I actually haven't compared 7" to 12" Another Journey By Train, but surely they aren't 36 seconds different!?!?

36 seconds difference in Another Journey By Train?
Would like to hear a vinyl transfer of both!
A Forest off the actual 7" vinyl would be good to hear too...

  16. Yes, I always noticed a difference and it was the missing piano note at the end of the instrumental break that stood out to me, just before 'daylight...'

  27. got the last copy from one of my local shops [house of guitars, rochester, ny]...they said they got only 2. went to another [needledrop records, rochester], but they were out. if i go out to another later and find a copy, i will pick one up for anyone who is interested. there are a few on ebay that are reasonably priced...unfortunately most listed are way too high. [don't forget: the original dinosaur jr uk/usa 12" can be found fairly cheap at discogs. the cure's version on the new RSD2014 7" seems like the original 12" version (clearmountain mix) from first listen].

It does kind of make you wonder the point of it if private sellers make several hundred per cent more profit than the stores do...
