We've all been wondering if there was the possibility of The Cure playing a few US shows in between their 2 shows at ACL, and now it looks like the rumors are starting:
"My source deals with events at the University of Texas - El Paso, and she says that The Cure have been booked at the Don Haskins Center later this year. She says it's a done deal, they are just setting up the date, said we should know by the end of the week. Could it be?!?!?!?" (Thanks Carlos)
Obviously just a rumor at this time, and in no way even remotely confirmed. But fingers crossed for this one, and Houston, and New Orleans, and anywhere else they want to play between those ACL shows.
Update (06/20/13): Been told that this El Paso rumor is false. No Texas shows between ACL dates. Then again, plans can, and often do, change. We'll see.

I have it on good authority that they are bound to their contract for ACL not to play any TX shows that week between ACL shows, but maybe before or after. Hopefully Houston since that's where I am or at least closer than El Paso.
ReplyDeleteHmm, if there's any language like that in the contract, we can probably forget any other shows in Texas. Can't imagine they would prevent them from playing the week inbetween, but be okay with shows before or after. Wouldn't make sense.
DeleteDoesn't Lolla and Coachella have a 90 days/90 miles stipulation? If you play those festivals, you can't play within 90 miles of the festival for 90 days. Wonder if ACL has that, too?
Lolla does. Coachella doesn't.
DeleteHowever, Coachella does reduce the artist guarantee and make some requirements in terms of venues played (ie: no competing promoters).
Lollapalooza has a hard no compete clause, and it's much wider than 90 miles.
Thanks for clarifying that. What's the Lolla radius for shows? The entire state? And is it 90 days?
DeleteThat's just what I was told. I guess they feel like they would lose money if they played other shows that week and keep people from coming to the festival. Dallas and Houston are relatively close so maybe that's why. Not sure of the exact verbiage but I'm with you that it wouldn't make sense that they couldn't play before or after either. I will be completely bummed if I don't get to see them while they're so close. I can't afford ACL and this would be my first TX show to miss since 1996.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if they announce any shows in Texas either before, during, or after ACL, I will sell my ticket and go to the solo shows instead of ACL. Would much rather see 2 or 3 solo shows instead.
DeleteCraig, I bought 4 VIP tix to ACL second weekend and feel sick that I could have spent less and gone to a solo show. If they do announce a solo, any ideas how to sell ACL tix? Thanks, Jana
DeleteNo need to feel sick, Jana. This is just one rumor, which might be completely false. The rest of this is just a lot "What ifs" and "Wouldn't it be nice if they played (insert city here)". I think this rumor, along the announcement of the solo show in Hawaii, has us excited and wondering what else might be added.
DeleteBut as of today, The Cure are only playing 4 shows in North America this year - Osheaga, Lollapalooza, and the 2 ACL shows. No one should be changing plans because of anything being talked about here, or any speculation/rumors.
IF, and that's a very big IF, they add some solo shows and you need to sell, there's always ebay. And I'd be happy to list them here and on Twitter for you. Though to be honest, it might be hard to sell them if the 2nd weekend isn't sold out. Would likely have to sell them for less then you paid. We;ll see. Plenty of time before you even have to think about any of this.
Craig, Thanks for easing my anxiety ...

No doubt. I'd rather have presale and get on the floor than have to fight all those people at ACL. Here's to wishing and hoping! RSX won't let us down, right?! :)
ReplyDeleteAnyone else having trouble accessing the official site?
ReplyDeleteYes. Hopefully updating with the Hawaii news and maybe some other surprises. :)
DeleteWorking again and the Honolulu show has been added.
DeleteA NOLA show in the week before ACL1 would be AWESOME!!!!!
ReplyDeleteA NOLA show anytime they'd like to play here would be awesome. :)
DeleteI'm betting a Vegas show is pretty much a given if they add some. I'll guess El Paso, Las Vegas, and Denver at Red Rocks. Serious wishful thinking on that last one.
I'd be thrilled for NOLA to get a show (if not more) at anytime, but being as I will be in NOLA the week before would be even BETTER!!!
DeleteToronto or brooklyn, honestly I don't care as long as they are somewhere near me....of course no one ever comes to Elmira, NY or hell even buffalo or Rochester, I need to live in a big city!!!!
ReplyDeleteActually, that might play in your favor this time. Robert said they wanted to play in places they've never been before. And as far as I know, they've never played Elmira, so it's now or never. :)
DeleteThey've never played any shows in Rochester, either, and I think that Blue Cross Arena can easily accommodate them. They also haven't played in Buffalo since 1984.
DeleteBeen 13 years since they played NOLA....and it used to be on RS' s list of face cities....fingers crossed

DeleteLast NOLA show in 2000 was at the Saenger Theatre. Saenger suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Katrina, been closed down since 2005. Now after 8 years of stupidity, legal wrangling, and red tape, the Saenger is finally set to re-open this Autumn, when The Cure are playing down south. Coincidence? Well, yes, but still fun to think it was meant to be. :)
DeleteReally not expecting a NOLA show around ACL. Still think our best bet is Voodoo Festival, but even that's a long shot right now.
Anywhere in a 300 mile radius of Detroit that doesn't start with an L and end in an ollapalooza would be super appreciated.
ReplyDeleteEl Paso??? Hummm.... Robert Phoenix would be a much better choice! ;)
ReplyDeletei can get to las vegas! let's do this!!!
ReplyDeleteMy guess is that The Cure are waitng for the second weekend of ACL to sell out. Once it is all sold out, The Cure can play anywhers in Texas they want.
ReplyDeleteLast time I saw them in Kansas City he promised his voice would be much sweeter next. I know this is a real long shot, but one can hope. I do have my Lolla ticket though.
ReplyDeleteI have high hopes/ dreams for a Red Rocks show. They sold it out last time they played it... and I am sure they would sell it out again.
ReplyDeleteYeah, fingers crossed for stand-alone shows in Denver and at least one other city on the mainland!
