Update (05/09/13): While Regular 3 day passes for weekend 1 are sold out, travel packages and VIP & Platinum 3 day passes are still available. And all options are still available for weekend 2.
Update (05/08/13): Hopefully clearing this up once & for all, ACL has posted the list of bands NOT playing both weekends. Every other band is playing BOTH weekends.
Update (05/07/13): The lineup is out! The Cure & Depeche Mode!!! At the same show!!! Here's the lineup video. That's some Cure bio they put up. Ton of effort and research went into that, I'm sure. :P Apologies to ACL, as they say The Cure provided that bio. In that case, it's actually pretty funny.
Again, to be absolutely clear on this, ACL is 2 weekends. Oct. 4th - 6th & Oct. 11th - 13th. The Cure, along with most of the bands, play 2 shows, 1 each weekend. If you want to see both Cure shows, you have to buy tix for BOTH weekends, not just 1. $225 for each weekend pass. No single day passes. On sale now. Platinum ($3.600) and VIP ($1,050) passes are also available.

To view this for yourself, go to the Lineup hints page and View Page Source. The anagram keeps changing, but the letters are always the same, and always come out as The Cure. Now I'm even more excited about the ACL announcement! Will have to pick up an Austin Chronicle paper on my way home from work.
ReplyDeleteAnd get some coffee...and an ice cream...and a sno-cone...and whatever else they decided to put the clues on. :)
Deletethis would literally be the only reason (other than forced business travel) that I would goto TX!!!!
ReplyDeleteDo you not eat BBQ?
DeleteBBQ can be had many, many places outside of Texas. And no, I am not fussed if the BBQ in Texas is "the best"
DeleteAccording to Wikipedia, 2011 daily capacity was 75,000. That means 150,000 chances to see The Cure this year, USA!
ReplyDeleteAll of the page source anagrams have been decoded and posted by Clint Cox at the Consequence of Sound ACL page, and many now show up at the ACL lineup hints page:

Is this gonna be like Lollapalooza and sell out in 2.5 seconds?
ReplyDeleteThe regular tickets didn't sell out that quickly. Took about 15-20 minutes, I think. The biggest problem with Lolla was their awful website that handled ticket sales. Hopefully ACL won't be as bad. And with two weekends now, your chances are doubled for getting tickets. Just have to make sure The Cure are actually playing both weekends.
DeleteAnd if they are, what are they doing with that week inbetween shows? They might as well play a couple of smaller shows, right? No one would object to that, would they? :)
If they decide to play some stand-alone shows in the US, I will bankrupt myself, if necessary, and use my vacation time!
DeleteI hope they don't sell out like Lolla. I need to get at least two tickets!
ReplyDeleteACL has got to have one of most obnoxious websites!! Bloody hell.
ReplyDeleteI know I'm getting old, but jeeze I have never heard of ANY of these other bands. Seems like a weak line up for a 3 day festival both in terms of the number of bands, and a lack of better known acts. Is this it?
ReplyDeleteNo. This is only a handful of the bands that they are leaking early. There are usually 150 or so bands/artists.
DeleteMuse has already confirmed themselves as headlining one day, and there are rumors of The xx, and even Depeche Mode, though I'm very skeptical about DM playing there. It does fit their US tour schedule, though, so who knows? I think I'd die if DM and The Cure both played there. :)
OK, that's a relief....! I'd certainly love to see DM, too. Fingers crossed.
DeleteI am with you Craig, I would die if DM and The Cure were playing the same festival. It has always been a dream of mine to see both bands play on the same stage.
DeleteAdd me to the list of people who just might die if DM are on the schedule.
DeleteSorry, didn't mean to start some sort of death cult over this. :)
DeleteBut lets make a pact to try not to die until we've seen DM and The Cure, okay? :)
LOL! Agreed!
Delete:)
DeleteThe Cure and DM at one show, I'd definitely be down for that. Especially since DM aren't coming anywhere near me on their US tour. Can't wait until Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThere is little chance DM is playing ACL. They have a concert in Athens on Saturday October 5th. Have a hard time picturing them flying to/from Austin to/from Athens.
ReplyDeleteDM already has Houston and Dallas on their tour in September.
No, Athens is May 10th. They are in the US in Oct.
DeleteOct. 2nd - LA
DeleteOct. 6th - Las Vegas
Oct. 8th - Phoenix
So they are in the area. :)
DM can't play a festival that close to their own dates round there, I'm afraid. And The xx seem too little name yet. Green Day, The Smashing Pumpkins, Neil Young And Crazy Horse, Placebo, Blur, Nine Inch Nails, Phoenix, System Of A Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Stone Roses, Iggy Pop And The Stooges, My Bloody Valentine, Eminen, The
DeleteKillers, The Prodigy... lots of big and very big names touring this year, so...
WRONG! :)
DeleteHappy to recognize I was ! It's because if DM's single that I love so much. Will see them in Nîmes this summer, in one of the most beautiful antic théâtre on earth. Let's have a gig of The Cure here in Europe and 2013 will ba a fantastic year with Dead Can Dance, The Smashing Pumpkins, Sophie Hunger, Björk....
DeleteCouple questions:
ReplyDeleteNot familiar with the ACL festival - could The Cure play a 3 hour show there?
Also, would they come back in Oct to *just* to play this festival? (no other US shows)
Or is there still "more to come"?
Generally, the most headliners usually get at ACL is 2 hours. Some of them only get 90 minutes (Coldplay, My Morning Jacket). I wouldn't be surprised if they gave The Cure 2.5 hours, but they're not getting 3 at this festival.
DeleteWill it be the same at Lolla?
DeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteWas initially super excited about getting to see the Cure in town. But $225? That's a hell of a lot of money. Maybe I can canoe out onto the lake and listen from there ;-)
ReplyDeleteYeah, it's really expensive. :( Wish they were selling 1 day passes.
Deletewhich means there will be no new record too soon
ReplyDeleteWhat I want to know is what they will be doing that week between shows.
ReplyDeleteThat's what everyone wants to know. :)
DeleteThey really should do a mini tour of Dallas, Houston, and New Orleans while down here that week. :)
Yes. They have not been in New Orleans since those saenger shows. Maybe it is time that they make their first appearance at the New Orleans Arena. 13 years flew by!
ReplyDeleteI think, from reading the ACL site, they are actually playin TWO weekends in a row? Please tell me it's so.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've been saying that from the start. Check the front page. Two shows, two weekends.
DeleteSorry I tend to overlook obvious details. I am, obviously too busy dancing around excitedly and wondering if they will play an inbetween date or pop up in some obscure club during the week...
DeleteWoohoo! Cleveland's not at the bottom of the shitpile!
ReplyDelete2 shows confirmed at Austin on homepage
ReplyDelete'...AND STILL MORE TO COME.'
Oh Robert, why can't you just tell us about the other shows now, before we all shell out for a trip to Austin tomorrow morning?????
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I want to attend a show or maybe two, but this requires planning for us earthbound souls who need to plan their vacations, etc. give us a break..let us join you out of planning, not desperation ...always d.
ReplyDeleteCRAIG.... NOW DO WE GET TO DIE?!?!?!?!? OMG!! PLEASE SAY YOU ARE COMING!!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I was yelling... caps lock was appropriate!!
DeleteNO! I said not until after we see them. So you have to wait until Oct. 7th or Oct. 14th to die. :)
DeleteYeah, as much as I don't want to go, I'm not sure I can resist this. Not going to see this happen again, I would guess.
I want to see them both weekends!!!! And WHY do you not want to go?
DeleteI HATE festivals. And large crowds. And heat. And being miserable. :)
DeleteNo way I'm paying $450 to go to both weekends. One will have to suffice.
Oh I'm probably still going. Just going to have to stay positive for those 3 days. Realize this is pretty historic. And special. :)
DeleteUgh. I can't bring myself to go to this festival for the reason's you mention, Craig... I'm going to see them in Chicago with one of my best friends, who saw the Cure two night in a row with me in college. Lolla in Aug. will be difficult enough. I'll save my $$$ and time against hope that they decide to perform at least once standalone show in the U.S.
DeleteI completely understand that. No way I could suffer through Lolla and ACL. I'm hoping we get some early cool fronts down here. It does happen in Oct, so maybe the Texas heat won't be too bad by then.
DeleteBe carefull as DM, The Cure, Muse and Kings Of Leon are on the bill... tickets may sell out in a flash. The line-up is just fantastic and Robert will want the boys to overtop the other headliners. I'm waiting for a cool picture with the 4 bands all together. And maybe cross guests on stage ?! So amazing !
ReplyDeleteAnd Franz Ferdinand and Phoenix and Queens Of The Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys... waow, lucky Texas.
Lionel Richie ???! Robert hates him. Would love to attend when they meet !! ;))))))
ReplyDeleteThen Robert is a fool. LR is fantastic live. Saw him at Jazz Fest here a couple of years ago, made all sorts of jokes about him being here, and he blew me away. In most reviews he was cited as being the biggest surprise and a highlight of the show.
DeleteIf he's not up against DM, The Cure, or someone else I really want to see, I will definitely be seeing his set.
I don't know if he's so against LR yet but remember he once said (a century ago) : 'I don't like U2. I despise them as much as Aha or Lionel Richie. It's our choice, we don't like them'. lol
DeleteI have a feeling the 80's version of LR and today's version might be different. I'd check him out. Not all night long but for a few songs. See what I did there.
DeleteDoes anyone know if tickets can be purchased with international credit cards?
ReplyDeleteYes! From the Frontgate website:
DeleteWe accept all major debit/credit cards including international cards. Sorry, we do not accept PayPal or prepaid credit/debit cards.
Thanks, Craig. I should have posted that I had discovered that too. Roll on 10AM CT..... aka 11PM my time
DeleteGood luck, Jo!
DeleteExciting times ahead
DeleteThat's a pretty great lineup. Ive seen kings of leon, before seeing them was not a fan, but their live show really impressed me. Muse is another great live band, I think there show is geared more towards festivals now (although their last album was awful.) Also the national are playing, i'm seeing them next week in Ithaca NY for the kickoff of their US tour, weird that they are playing Ithaca. Finally the Cure, nothing that I can say can express how amazing they are live, I saw them during curosia, which was great but was nothing compared to Toronto in 07. Out of 40+ shows, with bands ranging from U2 to Stars to David Gray, The Cure was far and away the best show I have ever been too. I'm hoping that they do some shows in NY or Toronto between festivels, I know that the band wont last forever and would love to see them one or two more times.
ReplyDeleteIf the Cure do VooDoo Fest do you think Depeche Mode would be there too? New Orleans is more affordable for me.
ReplyDeleteDM are very doubtful for Voodoo, as they've just been announced to play at an F1 race in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 3rd.
DeleteThank you, Craig, for your prompt response. Do you suggest buying Austin tix, then if The Cure do announce Voodoo, we could sell our Austin tix? Any idea when they would make an announcement on Voodoo?
ReplyDeleteI really wish I knew. Voodoo isn't saying when they'll announce more bands. Have only announced 15 so far, and 2 of the 3 headliners.
DeleteAs far as whether or not to buy ACL tix, that's up to you. Can't really say how easy or hard it would be to sell them if you decide not to go.
Wish I could be of more help, but I don't have any more info on Voodoo.
Thanks for all your help, Craig. FYI, I just called about the VIP Platinum Package for ACL, it is $3,600.
ReplyDeleteOh, thanks! I'm ordering 2 right now. :)
DeleteCraig, I just bought 4 VIP passes (not platinum) for the second weekend at ACL. Will you and your wife be there then? We should meet up!
ReplyDeleteWell, I will be. Don't have a wife. :) I just went with the regular pass.
DeleteYou'll be there?? :) :) :) :) :)
DeleteSo awesome!!!
Craig, you have a wife now
DeleteI think there is a 60% chance that I might go. I can't bring you a wife but I can buy you a beer. :)
DeleteAw, Jeff, I was counting on you, man. Don't you have extra somewhere? :)
DeleteOk, 95% chance it's a go. Tix secured. I'll start looking for the wife. ;)
DeleteOh, okay. Do you plan on some sort of COF meetup at ACL?
ReplyDeleteMaybe. Will think about it when we get closer to the show.
DeleteGot a weekend pass for the first weekend! Can't wait!
ReplyDeleteCraig, Hope you can arrange a COF meetup! I have been a follower of COF for years!! It would be fun to meet you and mingle with other Cure fans : ))
ReplyDeleteYes a meetup is a great idea ;-)
DeleteHowdy Craig & CoF followers - - just read this article that say an Aussie Festival just missed out on 'The Cure'.
ReplyDeletehttp://themusic.com.au/news/all/2013/05/08/neutral-milk-hotel-harvest-leak-dates/
Thank you, craneman. Hadn't seen that. Also, that bit about not adding more dates this year is false.
DeleteAnyone know if more shows are going to be announced for August especially on the East Coast???
ReplyDeleteOnly Robert knows and he isn't saying. :)
DeleteWith such a line-up it was obvious it would sell out quickly. Good luck for the 2nd weekend.
ReplyDeleteIt's not sold out. Tickets are still available.
DeleteJust VIP and travel packages, no ?
DeleteYeah i thought it suss too Craig. (no more dates for the year etc). I guess, RS way ov being polite and not giving away any hints ov when they will tour Oz next. My money is on them playing Big Day Out next year (now that BDO is linked to C3 - ie. lollapalooza )and with BDO looking to re-establish (see article below) - who better to Headline than 'The Cure'
ReplyDeletehttp://musicfeeds.com.au/news/big-day-out-to-remain-on-gold-coast-after-locking-in-new-home-for-2014/
the cure depeche mode and arctic monkeys? im there.....just bought tickets..cant wait!

The Cure covering "Walking In My Shoes" on stage ? Robert singing with Dave a Cure song during DM set ? Exciting to think that both bands are together for a whole week. Think they still appreciate each other, so... who knows what can happen.
ReplyDeleteSaw DM last week in Nimes and it was one of my best gig ever. They're really good live. A perfect sparing partner for The Cure. Lucky Texas !
The bands won't be together in Texas for a week. DM have other shows booked in Las Vegas and Phoenix between ACL shows.
DeleteAnd we will just have to wait to see where The Cure are going that week.

DeleteYeah, I know, not 9 days in a row but several spent in Austin at the same time, honey ! Don''t you wanna dream a bit ?!
ReplyDeleteThe schedule is terrible.
ReplyDeleteACL has started shipping wristbands (at least for weekend 1).
