The Cure Drink was just fantastic : 29 people from Hungary, Spain, Norway, Australia, UK, US, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Scottland, Ireland... all so kind and chatty people. Could you please post this for me and say hello to all of them with a big Love xxx ?

The Cure are scheduled to play from 20:30 - 23:00. In the US, that's a start time of 3:30 PM eastern, 2:30 PM central, 1:30 PM mountain, and 12:30 PM pacific.

Unless I've missed something, there's no webcast or TV broadcast scheduled for tonight's show. If that changes, I'll update this post with the info.

  1. We're on the train and bound for Leeds - but if I have as many problems with signal as I did at Reading, I won't be of much help. I'll try to give a few updates if I can!

  2. Gawd, I can't believe I missed the Reading show yesterday. Blame it on having just moved, main computer not hooked up, no steady internet connection yet, too preoccupied with unpacking and everything... yet it's still crazy that I completely forgot about a Cure show. Not tonight, tonight I'll be right here following the setlist updates.

  3. Here's hoping for an epic setlist...I can't wait to hear The Kiss and If Only Tonight We Could Sleep...let's see if the pop fans can take that...

  4. Hope they play an awesome set & everyone of you lucky souls have an amazing time!

  5. I was really hoping for Plainsong... actually, I was really hoping just to be there...lol.

  6. Sounds exactly the same as Reading so far from the updates. Same setlist and same casual crowd. I need to see them abroad so I can see some of the more obscure stuff!

  7. now the cure dont doing notting obscure only pop music ! and the song the kiss i dont thing the band can play that now ! is play happy song that this:(

  8. Well, it's a festival. Can't blame the band for playing a festival set. But yeah, it would've been nice if they played a few more surprises. These last couple of shows have been very same-y. Awesome to witness I'm sure, but not terribly exciting from a setlist point of view.

  9. well, almost no changes to reading, but a very plausible 3-hour-setlist. hope they get more space in ireland (anyone knows about?), as they might give us something special again for the tour final - beside that new song.

Time is right now for some bloodflowers stuff finally, not to mention...FAITH. :)

  11. I know, I know...wishful thinking, I guess.

But with last year's Refelctions gigs *and* the 12:08 Dream Shows, it's really the right time of year, no?

For some reason, it seemsto me that RSX is partial to the US duirng that time of the year...or at least I'd like to think he is ;-)

  13. That was lame. Exactly the same show as in reading. The only difference was the order of playing a couple of songs. "no two shows alike" my arse!

  14. I remember seeing the Wish Tour in 92. I had no idea what the setlist was going to be like, although (like most bands) I'm sure it was somewhat standard for the whole tour.

Same for the 95 festival shows, they were fairly similar but we had no idea!!!

So maybe the Internet is ruining our sense of excitement / surprise about shows? Yes, the setlists are fairly standard, but a) they are a reflection of this tour b) they're festival shows c) who gives a fuck so long as they're playing!!!!!

  15. Nice show tonight. I kind of spoiled being there a little, by having already watched this set live about 10 times on internet etc this summer!

Kind of interesting that everyone in the band made at least one mistake tonight. Jason on A Forest, Roger on the JLH solo, Simon not coming in on POY, they seemed to all fluff FIIL, Reeves made a few errors too IIRC. Fatigue maybe? It has been a long summer.

I see reports of a dull crowd but I disagree. Leeds today was full of what looked to be 16 year old XFactor entrants and I expected a sparse crowd, but they came, they stayed and they applauded and screamed wildly after each and every song they had never heard before, including one of the dullest renditions of Play For Today ever. Why this remains in a festival set is a mystery.

Simon was amazing tonight, I think he'd taken some inspiration from Paramore with all the running around! Really nice interaction with Roger too, especially after Roger got lost on JLH because you could see he was genuinely pissed off with himself (he shouted 'fuck' and walked away from his keyboard a moment), then Simon went to him to pretend to say something and kissed him instead, getting a big Roger grin! Great fun seeing Roger sneaking all the way round the back of the stage during BDC to snesk up on Reeves and poke him. Reeves nearly shit himself!

Clearly a brilliant atmosphere in the band, that would really translate well to record...

    3. He messed up the solo at Leeds. I've noticed from the Reading broadcast something very interesting. He sets up a sample of the main string part and he starts the sample playing while he plays the piano. I only heard it while at Leeds so far so can't remember 100%, but I think the sample wasn't playing at the right time. I seen his confused look then I think he fluffed the piano, as he wasn't sure where in the song he was at. There was definitely a mistake, he shouted fuck to himself and walked away. It was why Simon kissed him.

    4. I just watched. It's the string sample during the solo, sounds like it fades out and back. He was fiddling with controls while playing the piano solo. He must have messed up the sample, he was clearly very pissed off. Watch the Reading footage, you see him trigger the string sample as he starts the piano solo. He must record the sample during one of the earlier passes in the song. I'm impressed, not seen Roger doing in-song sampling before.

  16. Mistakes tonight were probably inevitable after a near flawless show at Reading. I have to say, I used to be staunch 'dark stuff', but because they're playing so well at the moment, the poppier stuff is really enjoyable. Bizarrely, I found myself less interested in One Hundred Years, Open and End. Lowest point of the set is The End Of The World; it seems so passionless. Best bits are Bananafishbones, Wrong Number, The Walk, SWID, FTEOTDGS... Ach, actually it's all pretty amazing!

  17. Ooh, a Shake Dog Shake opening would be good sometime soon...

Also meant to say, the vibe when we arrived at Reading was pretty unfriendly last night. Lots of groups of lads showing off. I got taken the p*ss out of twice, just because I was wearing a long coat. The atmosphere improved dramatically after FIIL though.

  18. Set was excellent. Reeves really adds something to Open, Deep green sea and I don't like Wrong Number on record, but it rocked last night. My main complaint is Roger is too far down in the mix, particularly on Want. His take on Trust is amazing though.

Add that to great Bananfishbones and Just One Kiss versions and it was one of the best sets I've seen the Cure play in 2 decades of going to see them live.

  25. Right, plenty has been said about the setlist and the crowd reaction.

I went for the day just to see The Cure. I used to go to a lot of the UK festivals in the 90's including Reading and Leeds but Saturday was my first time at Leeds for about 12 years.

The crowd is a young crowd. 90% of the crowd appeared to be aged between 16 and 19. Apart from The Cure and 2 other people I saw I think I was the oldest person there at the ripe old age of 38. Not a problem but we need to bear in mind this age group will have had limited expose to The Cure. They are spoon-fed their music taste by the NME who, apart from awarding The Cure the Godlike genius award a few years ago have not exactly been staunch supporters of the band. And to be fair The Cure have not really reached out to new fans for several years.

This, in my opinion, resulted in a very neutral crowd wanting to hear the hits, the handful of songs they have probably heard on greatest hits albums and whatever alternative music video channel may play. I was quite near the front and for most of the set the crowd was talking amongst themselves until a 'hit' was played or they dispersed because they got tired of waiting for a 'hit' to be played.

The only 3 songs the crowd really reacted to were Friday, Lovecats and Boys Don't Cry. Most of the other songs weren't recognised by the crowd.

I personally thought the setlist was very good. Enough singles and hits played, enough solid live tracks that will have impressed the neutral and enough b-sides/obscurities for the die-hard fans.

What I hope the crowd took away from the gig was an urge to investigate the band further and seek out the albums that some of the songs they liked are from.

When I was at the merchandise stall a young lad (about 15 years old) approached me to discuss the band as I had a Cure shirt on. He said he couldn't wait to see the band and it was his parents who got him into them. He was genuinely excited and it was refreshing to see kids of his age looking forward to their first Cure gig.

Overall a really good gig. The sound and cameras were excellent. The crowd indifferent but as mentioned above this is not really any fault of theirs and the setlist had something for everyone.

Here's to a few more before they call it a day

  26. Just about recovered from Reading and Leeds (then on to Notting Hill Carnival on sunday for good measure)! Had a really good time at both Festivals..i'd say Reading wins marginally over Leeds for the crowd. Both very young, but the Leeds kids were asleep, and the band's pace kind of reflected that in a way...(i hate to say it but Play for Today and A forest just plodded along). The only time the crowd cheered was For Friday, Lovecats and inBetweenDays. The setlist has been discussed, so no point going on about it,it's a festival set list, and it's a good one.Looks to me like they've tweaked the light show since Vielles Charrues ,to great effect(Primary, Wrong Number and The Walk were again excellent).Glad to say that's it for me in terms of Festivals for a while..it's been fun meeting a lot of fans that you get to know from one concert to another..To those who go this week end, have fun at EP....can't beleive SummerCure is almost over!!
