New Robert interview in Hot Press

Robert interview/Cure article in the new issue of Hot Press. You can buy a copy here.

Update: Posted some photos of this great interview here.

"There are now 3 half-albums on the go! We were going to record this week, but I've been mixing all the live shows for a DVD of this Summer. We'd love to do something with Reeves...there's a lot going on at the moment with The Cure, but it's all historic. I've been doing the Wish re-master for what seems like 15 years - Kevin Shields is my role model in that department! There's a compilation coming out and a Mixed Up 2 project. I've just done something for Tim Burton's Frankenweenie & I've a couple of other collaborations in the tray marked 'pending'. There's going to be a glut of Cure stuff when they all arrive at the finishing line at the same time.
Another Cure thing that's ongoing is a retrospective 4-hour DVD and accompanying book."

  1. SummerCure DVD, new song in Ireland, recent studio time... I'm getting way too excited.

    1. 1.The studio thing was a lie, Roger said. They went on holiday, not into the studio.

      2. This new song in Ireland thing, I still think it was a bad translation or a misunderstanding. But we'll know next week.

      3. SummerCure DVD. Maybe. In 2014? :)

  2. Why do I get the feeling we will see this SummerCure DVD around the same time as we get the 10 Dream Tour CD's that were promised way back..?? :)

  3. maybe they are going to play a song in ireland that haven't before? so in a way it's a "new" song. hope so!

  4. Craig, I'm sure you're right. Thanks for bringing me back down to earth.
As far as a "never been played old song" I'd love to see/hear "Chain of Flowers" or "Burn".

    1. Sorry. :) Just hate to get your hopes up too high. Better to expect nothing and get a surprise. :)

  5. Let's pray the audio is not in the same quality of Entreat Plus...

It should come as no surprise to long time Cure fans that 90% of what comes out of RS is nonsense, changes the next interview, or is an outright lie.

RS maks a lot of promises that typically never come true. You just have to ignore most of what he says, and focus on the real things when they happen; Reflections shows, Disintegration remaster, etc.

I believe RS when I can buy it or go see it live, lol.

  7. Quite exciting! But 4 hours on DVD? I hope it's put across 2 DVDs -- for maybe 6 hours. 4 hours on DVD would lead to loss of quality. I don't want another "Festival" quality DVD. I hope he includes Andy Anderson and Lawrence Tolhurst -- as well as Boris Williams, whom I've never really heard speak. The more the merrier!

  10. Another concert DVD. Wow. How totally boring.

  11. Didn't Robert say in the Paris interview after the concert that they were going into the studio....that certainly didn't sound like a lie to me!

    1. Yeah, that's the lie I'm talking about. Robert said they were going to use the month break to record. Roger said, no, that was a lie. They went on holiday. :)

  12. What really irks me is the fact that Bob has not kept fans up to speed on why the DVD's have not been released when he said they would be. Very hypocritical when he's so thankful to still have such a loyal live following! I can't thing of any other band who hasn't yet released their entire back catalogue of live videos onto dvd and better yet, the labels who include a live dvd with the re-release of an old album. It is a complete joke that he only included Disintegration songs on the recent 'Entreat' release when he could and should have put the whole concert on the disk (or 2). That was probably their best tour and we don't have a proper full live release!!!!!!!!!

  13. I just want to know where the hell the deluxe edition of Wish is!!! I so badly want to listen to Lost Wishes and hope they are included.

Also, weren't the Reflections shows supposed to be released on DVD? I was gutted that I couldn't get tickets.

  14. Craig...If I'm right, Roger has continually played off like he wasn't going back into the band and thrown out misinformation....and if I'm right, he tweeted something about being in a car wreck before his Bestival of Reflections appearance, so I'm guessing Roger is having a little fun here. I can't imagine that Robert would go on TV and tell a room full of media that he is hitting the studio and not meaning it....plus, these guys have been hush, hush for the last month, which means they are up to something....my guess is Robert was being honest and Roger was pulling legs....at least, I hope.

    1. No, he was serious. The Bestival thing was to try and keep the secret that he was returning to the band. No need to cover up something that Robert had said publicly.

I don't know if you are a new fan or not, but Robert lies in interviews constantly. He's known for it. And quite proud of it. :)

As he says in this very interview, he used to get away with murder in the days before the internet. :) Now everything he says is broadcast around the world, within minutes of saying it.

Anyway, if Robert did record anything during the break, it certainly wasn't with the full band.

    2. Roger WAS in a small car wreck before Bestival! Not a lie.

  15. So what you are saying, indirectly, is that a remastered Wish may not be released this year as Robert stated? Rubbish! lol..

  16. Wow! That was one of the best RS interviews I've read. So much good banter. Thanks!

    1. It was really good.. not the usual interview blah blah blah ;)

  17. Does Robert get paid for doing these interviews? If so - and there is really nothing to report - I guess he would have to lie, right?

    ReplyDelete
  18. And Robert does not mention to have plans to play in South America any time soon.
Sadly for me somehow I knew that was a lie :(
