Danish tv station DR2 had a Roskilde theme night, and there was quite a bit of Cure content. Let's take a look:
In this clip, Robert intros the special with "Welcome to a night of music & despair".
In this clip, we see interviews with fans, an interview with Robert (at 9:45 & 16:25), and the performances of Lovesong (6:18) & Just Like Heaven (13:48, though it starts while RS is speaking).
And at 53:00 in this clip, Robert Smith, hypnotist, tries to put the Roskilde 2012 special audience to sleep. (Thanks Sørens) http://ww

The first 30 seconds gave me my biggest laugh today.
ReplyDeleteWhat a riot.
ReplyDeletezzzzzzzzzzzzzz
ReplyDeleteIt worked! :)
DeleteNice to know he was in the studio for whatever reason.
ReplyDeleteYeah, if it was a music studio ;)
DeleteCan only find the introduction stuff on the three links bring me to the same clip....

DeleteI've heard Robert say so many times that what they do is 'junk' and doesn't mean anything...I wonder when he says this, whether he truly understands how much the Cure means to so many people? I mean, I never really thought that any music could have such a profound impact on me, but it has, and in so many ways. Maybe in the same way that Bowie did for him, maybe more so.
ReplyDeleteEverything is junk - not just the music. He can be quite the nihilist when he is in that mood.
DeleteOf course he loves his music like we do but in the end: "It doesn't matter if we all die..."
Well I can't argue with that...and I'm as much of a nihilist, particularly after a few beverages ;-) but it always suprises me that after all this time, he can bare his soul on stage yet still refer to his performance as 'junk'.
DeleteThis was the first time I heard him say this and it was quite refreshing. He's kinda right that pop music and all entertainment is superficial, compared to, let's say, what Martin Luther King, Jr. or Ghandi did. At the same time, entertainment helps sustain life, especially when it's so devotedly done, as he does it. How many public servants/politicians have claimed moral greatness, only to damage society more when they left it; Robert has only added to the world.
DeleteThe danish voice there in the end also said that they will show more from the concerts of the festival later during the year. And one of those that will be shown are The Cure.
ReplyDeleteAnother great set of interviews. Thanks, Craig and thank you, Europe for all these great moments with Robert. It just shows how great interview footage is, compared with some probable fool (especially in North America) doing a print piece and leaving out lots of good bits. Robert never really repeats himself in these last video interviews, whereas you'd read the same things over and over on the last few tours in print. This stuff is amazing.
ReplyDeletehe's fitting in some studio time in between gigs...nice to hear...
ReplyDeleteThat's true! I wondered if I heard that right. Hopefully for an album next year, eh?
DeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteIs there any way anyone can load this onto YouTube? I just can't view it no matter what I do. I even updated the player thingy and still nothing :(
ReplyDeleteWhat browser are you using? It won't work on Chrome for me, but it does on Firefox.
DeleteOh yeah, I do have Chrome, wull try firefox later. Thanks ghanisbuli.
