What time do New Order play?
ReplyDelete19:50. Not sure how long they get, but at least 60 minutes.
DeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteHowever, that might be a bit off, as it's based on the Heineken schedule on Facebook, and Roger just told me that The Cure are go on 20 minutes earlier than listed. 21:25 versus 21:45.
DeleteYikes, New Order...hmmm...good thing Peter's not with them..."no more tension" says Robert. haha...
ReplyDeleteThis is from that Word interview with Robert:
DeleteThe Cure’s dressing room is at the end of a corridor next to tonight’s headliners, New Order. For most of the evening the door is tight shut, but at one point that other blond singer of the Sumner clan, Bernard, pops out and hollers, “Hello, Robert!” and the two have an enormously cheery chat; grizzled veterans still in the trenches, still topping the bills. It is an utterly disarming moment.
Smith, Gallup and I head back to see New Order, who are very good but we all agree they’re missing something without Hooky.
“Surely they’re old enough to get over it,” Smith says. “Fucking hell! Me and him have!” he adds, indicating his bass-player stood next to him.
: )
"They're missing something without Hooky" I guess, that is synonymous with "The Cure are missing something without Porl and Boris and Lol."
DeletePale blue Sky Here in italy... New order on stage
ReplyDeleteHave a great time tonight!
DeleteThank you!
ReplyDeleteChecking in for the live show thread! :D
ReplyDeleteLullaby at 3? Early doors! Could mean a totally unexpected setlist :)
ReplyDeleteDisintegration setlist, hmmm... Same Deep Water?
ReplyDeleteWhat was the New Order set list... anybody knows?

The Perfect Kiss

Love Will Tear Us Apart
Looks like they're getting the pop songs out of the way already. That could be promising for the encores...
ReplyDeleteThe sets are too predictable again
ReplyDeleteIf i saw the Cure and they played this set I would be so delighted. A solid band playing classics, newish songs and a slew of obscurities/rarities. Maybe it doesn't have a "new" old song but they've already over-delivered on this front.
DeleteThe main sets will be fairly consistent during this tour, as is usually the case. It's in the encores where we can look forward to some surprises.
ReplyDeleteI don't think there will be any more surprises...I think there won't be any other songs performed at these festivals than the ones they are doing now
DeleteOoh, a Top encore? I already missed Bananafishbones in the main set.
ReplyDeleteYes! Called it right! The Top, awesome!
DeleteBrilliant!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for a Top encore at Reading or Leeds!!
ReplyDeleteRoskilde set list in Lisbon...PLEASE!!!

Review from David Fargier:
ReplyDelete"Back from the gig. Nice place in the middle of a very big congress area. A huge 300 meter corridor with an enormous stage at the end. Very good atmosphere, awful food, cool beer, chatty and smiley people from Italy, Greece, France, Belgium, Germany, Brasil, Spain...
I've never ever seen such a concentration of Cure t-shirts, probably due to the fact that lots of non official ones were sold for 5 euros just outside the festival venue. Some were nice but not of a good quality, mistakes in the Summer Cure dates...
New Irder got on stage for a short but good show with mythic titles including Joy Division's 'Love Will Tear Us Apart'. The only problem is that Bernard Summer is not a very good singer. The new bassist is ok, filling in good as Hook decided to move out.
The Cure took the stage about a quarter before the official schedule, probably a last minute negotiation to have a bit more time. The setlist was really good with lots of songs off 'The Top' and the good Summer Cure surprises we already heard. The boys were concentrating but didn't feel like they were enjoying as much as in Barcelona or Belfort. Not looking at each other a lot. They seemed a little bit tired so I noticed a tiny lack of energy.
The crowd was really into the show and tried to get the boys back singing the keyboards tune of 'Play For Today' after 'Boys Don't Cry' ended and we thought they would as the lights on stage were off for a minute but...
My five stars go to 'Friday I'm In Love', 'Why Can't I Be You?', 'Just One Kiss', 'Shake Dog Shake', 'Primary' and a special mention for 'The Top' which is a fantastic atmospheric song.
See you in Rome !"
Even though the set lists have been predictable for the most part, this show seems to have the best mix so far
ReplyDeletei agree - a great set
ReplyDeleteReview from Michele/fmjews:
ReplyDelete"After 24 hours I can try to describe the emotions felt during the concert last night at the Heineken Jammin Festival. The mainset started great with the triptych of Disintegration, Plainsong, Pictures of You and Lullaby, then it was a crescendo to the peak Play for Today, A Forest and Primary.
Some problems on Robert's guitar on Friday I'm In Love and Doing the Unstuck, then the guitar replacement before an amazing Trust (the magical atmosphere created by Roger, who tore applause during the song).
The final part of the first gave us a poignant version of Disintegration, with Robert almost in tears while chanting "how the end always is."
No time to take stock of the ladder of the first part by noting the absence of Bananafishbones and behold, the impossible becomes possible, the dream comes true: The Top Encore! SDS is the song with which back in 1985 (I was only 11 years) I'm in love with this band and this was the first time after 6 concerts I heard it live, BFB is nothing short of overwhelming and The Top, well is The Top!
The second encore (like Roskilde) was expected to be more pop, but was able to give us the absolute gems like Just One Kiss, The Caterpillar and excellent versions of Close To Me and Why Can not I Be You?
In conclusion, a magical evening that he flirted with perfection: a third encore with The Same Deep Water As You would have made this concert unique."
Disintegration sounded it's best since 2002...
ReplyDeleteI know this is way old now but I can't stop thinking about it. During Pictures of You he closes it with "than to ALWAYS feel the breaking apart, my pictures of you".
ReplyDeleteI don't recall hearing any live versions where he changed the lyric. Is it something he has done in the past or was he in a depressed mood that night?
