Robert: "MAYBE 1 MORE TO CONFIRM..."
Should we make anything of that image Robert posted with the news? Any clues there? What is it, and what, if anything, does it mean?
Answer from @CHROMEDICK: "It's a map of Europe and the green spots are probably selected regions where they'll be performing. That's my guess. Also, there's one in the far upper right corner...Russia?!"
Maxidrom is on the official! Look out you lucky fans in Russia - here come The Cure!!
ReplyDeleteAlso - 3 OR MAYBE 4 MORE TO CONFIRM...
ReplyDelete*wishes for UK dates*

ReplyDeleteTranslation ! Not sure how to navigate th Russian website...
ReplyDeleteOh duh - I answered my own question when I clicked through to the Maxidrom site.... *_*
ReplyDeleteThe logo is great, font wish reflection in the background

ReplyDeleteI'm very excited for our Russian fellow fans. I hope you have a great time!
ReplyDeleteWow, The Cure in Russia. That's pretty sweet.
ReplyDeleteThat's ridiculously awesome!! I'm so happy for all you European and Russian :D Plus that new font/icon thing is great :)
ReplyDeleteIs that logo official?
ReplyDeletei've never been to russia so it would be interesting to see them there!
ReplyDeletethat logo has been on rock in roma and pinkpop sites so i'm pretty sure it's official.
ReplyDeleteSurely I'm not led to believe that this will be the first time they've played in Russia in the whole of their 30 year plus career?!??
ReplyDeleteUnless I missed something along the way, yes, this is the first Russian show.

Here's hoping then that they do something momentous like what I hope the new band logo is suggesting.. :p
ReplyDeleteThe Wish reissue before the summer?
ReplyDeleteNot really what I was thinking - but that would be nice too..
ReplyDeleteI say that because of the logo.
ReplyDeleteYeah I know why you said that but it still wasn't what I was thinking..
ReplyDeleteGuess we'll just have to wait and see..

ReplyDeleteConfirmed the other band that will play the same day (7th July) with the Cure at the Heineken Jammin Festival in Milan (Italy): New Order
ReplyDeleteLet's hope for a Blue Monday + The Walk medley???
Confirmed that The Cure will be playing Electric Picnic in Ireland.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.rte.ie/ten/2012/0301/electricpicnic.html
Just UK dates left?
Looks like Ireland is the first British Isles festival to be announced at Electric Picnic in Stradbally Co Laois: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/entertainment/news/the-cure-headline-electric-picnic-16124866.html
ReplyDeleteSo that image they posted of the map of Europe IS where they will be playing ... Ireland's Electric Picnic was just announced.
ReplyDeleteWe were not going to go home to ireland this year but I might sneak a week in in late August given this news ... at $1,100 a ticket right now however from Portland to Dublin they'd better ask me to second guitar just to make it worthwhile.
The newspaper articles and even the puff on the Picnic websites reports that The Cure will be playing songs from all 14 of their studio albums...is this a hint that we will be getting a new album this year?
ReplyDeleteyeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssss.The Electric Picnic Ireland confirmed
ReplyDeleteyeeeeeesssssssssssssssssssssssssss.The Electric Picnic Ireland confirmed
ReplyDeleteChas - I think the 14 albums thing is just a case of people counting the albums in different ways, including either Boys Don't Cry or Japanese Whispers, but I would love to be wrong about that. : )
ReplyDeleteStill crossing fingers & toes for a new song or 2 in the festival sets.
YAY!! We're going to Ireland!! Now we just need confirmation for R&L!! Woohoo!!
ReplyDeleteReading and Leeds seem to be a virtual lock so that leaves only one more that might be confirmed, according to Robert's note.
ReplyDeleteA close lock though Craig. They'd have to do Leeds on the Friday, boat it over to Ireland for the Saturday, then Reading on the Sunday. A very cose fit considering they'd leave one festival at about midnight and need to be at the next by 7am the next day.
ReplyDeleteDanny, you have the dates wrong. R&L are the weekend before. Rumor is they will be doing Reading on Friday, Leeds on Saturday, then that leaves them the week to get over to IE for the next weekend.
ReplyDeleteAh yes I am wrong! Sorry, just presumed it was on the last weekend of August as always, but I suppose as part of that weekend is then September, the last full weekend in August is the week before.

ReplyDeletemmm disagree with Antti, the Rho venue near Milan can have 40.000 people or more. But I doubt they will will do a soldout. Last year with the big 4 was not nearly near the soldout. The only problem is that is a parking lot. Only Asphalt, cement and no areas with shelter from the sun. If you go there, remember to take A LOT of water and salt supplements, and dress in a comfortable way. If will be a sunny day, remember it will be like hell on earth.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, the first support act confirmed are New Order. Not bad at all.

You need to post a comment just to read these most recent comments - or is it just me?
ReplyDeleteI could only be excited about this, if they were playing on the East Coast in the United States. Otherwise, I wish they would just get back into the studio
ReplyDeleteRonan - Yeah, it's a glitch with Blogger. Seems to only affect topics with more than 200 comments, like this one.
ReplyDeleteJust click on the title instead of on comments, and it should show you all of the comments below the article.
they're going to fall over before they have a chance to play the US again!!! holy...
ReplyDelete@Max1334 my comment was made for david when he posted that the first italian show was in venice and the capacity was 75000. but he removed that post.
ReplyDeleteLooks like they won't be making the US this year. Unfortunately looks like they've pretty much booked the entire year, if you include much needed breaks at the end. Hopefully next year!
ReplyDeleteNot true, Jon. Plenty of time to visit other countries. This Summer tour is only 18-20 shows over 4 months. Hardly an exhausting venture that would require months off to recover. Hell, that's nothing compared to playing 6 3 hour shows in a 7 night span, as they did with the US Reflections shows
ReplyDeleteBetting there are more announcements to come after this.
Though to be absolutely clear, at this point in time, if you want to be 100% sure you see The Cure this year, get to Europe this Summer. It's the only thing confirmed at this time. Anything else is just rumor and speculation at this point.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure of italien shows capacities as it's quite difficult to find official information. But the one I mentionned seems to be probable.
ReplyDeleteI really hope for south american fans that The Cure will play another bunch of gigs, at least in Mexico.
Here in Europe we're very lucky as it's a fantastic year of festival with lots of talented artists playing along with the boys ; some friends : Franz Ferdinand, Placebo, Elbow, some 'ennemies' : Radiohead, New Order, returns : Garbage, Mazzy Star, legends : Marianne Faithfull, Björk, maybe Portishead, and many others that deserve to be seen : Dominique A (a fantastic french singer who wrote the postface of my second Cure book, a good friend of mine and a huge Cure fan), Kasabian, The Prodigy, Bat For Lashes (nice cover of A Forest often played live), Linkin Park (Cure fans too, I was not a fan but a good surprise for me at Main Square last year), Red Hot Chili Peppers (Cure fans), The Specials, The Horrors (Cure children!)...
A last word to say that The Cure will be richer than ever with these 18-19 big-festivals fees and Adele's '21' reaching 19 million copies worlwide.
And don't miss Tim Burton's exhibition at the Cinémathèque in Paris. I'd love him to write a Cure biopic with Robert Pattinson playing Robert (a good look-alike actor)...

ReplyDeletethanks for the hope Craig! Still crossing my fingers. I guess the schedule just looks bigger, but very manageable at 18-20 over four months. Hoping to see them soon.
ReplyDeleteNo chance of Latitude now. Reading/Leeds the only UK one left...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.latitudefestival.co.uk/#poster
Have a look at gigwise.com, it's almost sure that the boys play Reading and Leeds. The two other headliners would be Kasabian and Foo Fighters.
ReplyDeleteAmong interesting acts to see during these summer festivals along with The Cure, another band who admires The Cure and that I forgot to mention : The Killers !
Red in an article on lavoixdunord.fr, Live Nation confirms that the boys won't play the Main Square Festival as it's too close to Wechter's and Les Eurockéennes dates.
ReplyDeleteRumours still spreading that they could headline Rock en Seine but lots of other names still in the run and I don't think they'll do 3 shows in France. Which one is missing regarding the mysterious map ??
Don't know why it appears now but seattlepi.com has reviewed my first Cure book on March 4... If someone is interested... Nice even if my name is David, not Michael, haha!

ReplyDeletethis seems to be the real reading/leeds ad:
ReplyDeletehttp://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_m04ci80ASZ1qec94wo1_500.jpg
Yeah, that's been going around for a few days now. Supposed to be the ad as it will appear in various magazines. The festival still claims all posters are fakes at this point.
ReplyDeleteEither way, not long now until we get an official announcement. Supposed to be Monday afternoon.
Yeah I think it's been confirmed as a fake, by seeing where the bands are over that weekend - Placebo or something like that are playing Germany on that day etc. Also it's doubtful they'd have any printouts or magazine adverts until a couple of days before the announcement as things will still be being finalised.
ReplyDeletejust got tix for ireland! yay! see you there...
ReplyDeleteI don't know but that Reeding & Leeds is not looking good to me...Hope it gets scrapped. I don't want to listen and watch them with Jason still on drums and no Porl...They sound so weak...I was a bit rejuvenated when they played in Paris last 2005, that was great...
ReplyDeleteWhat's the fucking last festival?! Craig, why isn't it possible to see latest comments on this thread ? Too many on the same subject for blogger ? Shall you split it into a new one with the 200-272 comments ?
ReplyDeleteDavid, under the comment box, you have to click on Load more... to get more of the comments to show.
ReplyDeleteThanks Craig. Lana Del Rey added to the Eurokeennes''s bill, and Jack White too '! Fucking brilliant summer...
ReplyDeleteAnd Editors to Wechter's !
ReplyDeleteNews for the Heineken Jammin Festival (milan, Italy 7th July): after NEW ORDER, added another band: CRYSTAL CASTLES
ReplyDeleteNot in Love duet???
Crystal Castles were on a couple of acts before The Cure at Bestival - Robert was watching from the side but they didn't do the duet.
ReplyDeleteThe following capacities are taken from www.festivalsearcher.com (and seem to be the official ones) except those for Moscow and Rome (information found on the internet and probable) :
ReplyDeleteLANDGRAAF,The Netherlands, 60,000
BARCELONA, Spain, 30,000
MOSCOW, Russia, 50,000
HULTSFRED, Sweden, 25,000

LAOIS, Ireland, 35,000
Total : 962,000 so far
Is it me or Robert added one possibilty "1 or 2 more to confirm" ? Any clue of which festivals are to be announced ? I'd say Sziget and Rock en Seine...
ReplyDeleteYes, before today's posting it was "2 or maybe 3 more". So looks like 1 more for sure, but possibly 2.
ReplyDeleteA few info : Cranes will play Laois and Crystal Castle Leeds and Reading. V Festival, Ultra Music and the doubled Coachella sold out. Adele's '21' is about to reach 20 million copies worldwide. Tim Burton says to french mag Telerama that he lives in London and told in a 2009 interview that he'd love to work with The Cure. My little finger told me that Paris 2008 dvd is almost ready and that an English distributor has been chosen. Robert didn't answer my request for a brand new set list, Porl's come-back, an Abigail's light show and a few dates for Sourh America. Bastard ! Let's keep asking, guys !!
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteCraig, I understood why Robert talks about 1 or to 2 more to confirm. He counts Readind and Leeds as a single confirmation, dito for Hurricane and Southside. 16 confirmations so far for 18 gigs.

ReplyDeleteAny info about bilbao and portugal? Are they good festivals to go?
ReplyDeleteI'm not quite understand the time of the Reading & Leeds...which exact day will they perform on? Friday or Saturday?...since I'm considering to buy the day ticket. Can anyone help me? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThey play Reading Festival on Friday, Aug. 24th, and Leeds Festival on Saturday, Aug. 25th.
ReplyDeleteThat means they will perform twice??? How strange...forgive me because I have never been to this festival before...
ReplyDeleteReading and Leeds are two different festivals, so they are only playing once at each site.
ReplyDeleteGot it. Thank you so much :)
ReplyDeleteYou're very welcome. Glad I could help you out. : )
ReplyDeleteWerchter has sold out its Sunday tickets (Red Hot Chili Peppers effect). 4 day-passes are almost sold out. Hurry up, guys, 'cos it's probable that the whole festival tickets won't be available soon.
ReplyDeleteI don't speak Russian but it seens that Maxidrom is about to sold out for both Linkin Park and The Cure concerts. Just went on the tickets site and the number of tickets left is very low regarding the capacity.
ReplyDeleteCraig, if you want to put a special thread, I'll try to keep informed through reliable sites about the different festivals sells. It could be useful for fans who, like me, are wondering where they'll go and when they have to book.
From NME, "The band, who released their last album '4:13 Dream' in 2008, do not currently have a record contract, and Smith says they have no plans to record any new material. However, he said he'd be keen to re-release '4:13 Dream' as a double album after being dissuaded by the "fucking idiots who were around me" at the time of its original release."

ReplyDeleteAnyone from Houston plan on going to the Reading Festival let me know. I am planning a trip. Thanks alwayslaugh@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteReading sunday tickets sold out. Both Reading and Leeds about to sold out. Hurry up, guys !
ReplyDeleteDon't know how confirmed this is but this is the line up for the Rome gig:
ReplyDeleteDENIMOR at 17.25
PAOLO BENVEGNU’ at 17.55
THE CRANES at 18.45
CRYSTAL CASTLES at 20.00
THE CURE: at 21.30
Not sure if this affects how long The Cure will play for, as original speculation suggested a full 2.5 hour set.
it looks confirmed as it is on the rock in roma website.
ReplyDeleteI think Robert often ask festivals to get friends openers. Cranes and Crystal Castle are there once again, like they'll be on other summer dates.
ReplyDeleteI think that the two missing festivals are Paleo in Nyon (Switzerland) and Sziget in Budapest (Hungary) as the dates could match and the bills are not complete yet.
ReplyDeleteMaxidrom about to sold out. Seems that there are only 2,000 tickets left.
ReplyDeleteWechter 67,000 combi tickets sold out. Only day tickets still available. The whole festival will probably sold out very soon.
serious roumor about The Cure playing Paleo Festival, official announcement schedulded on 17th april ;-)
ReplyDeleteI visited lost of festival sites and I fell like the last confirmation will be Nyon. They'll reveal their bill on the 17th of April and the boys played there exactly 10 years before the 2012 dates.
ReplyDeleteI bet on this:
ReplyDeleteOfficial announcment tommorrow april 17th...
The Cure play on 18th july at Paleo Festival in Nyon, Switzerland :-)
the cure will play in switzerland to the paleo festival, 18 july 2012 !!!
ReplyDeleteLet the last one be Sziget or Exit festival, PLEASEEE!!!
ReplyDeleteI told you they'd play Nyon, 10 years after their last appearance there. Note that Maxidrom is about to sold out (only 1,700 tickets left according to the internet seller).
