Robert: "MAYBE 1 MORE TO CONFIRM..."
Should we make anything of that image Robert posted with the news? Any clues there? What is it, and what, if anything, does it mean?
Answer from @CHROMEDICK: "It's a map of Europe and the green spots are probably selected regions where they'll be performing. That's my guess. Also, there's one in the far upper right corner...Russia?!"

Great news for my friends in the northern hemisphere!
ReplyDeleteAre you suggesting that the image on the official site along with the news is cover art for the next album, which implies it's about to be released, Craig?
ReplyDeleteNo, not at all. More a clue to where the shows will be. Maybe. : )
ReplyDeleteHere are my (probably wrong!) thoughts that I just posted on MFC:
ReplyDeleteHoping it will be like the old tours, a couple of festivals to start and then a world tour!
Trying to work out what the three on Monday may be at the moment, been doing a bit of research and I reckon that either Benicassim or Primavera (both Spain) are nailed on, only one of them though.
Pinkpop I think is almost definite, its been doing the rounds on COF and the organiser seems to have semi-confirmed it last week.
If they are doing Pinkpop then I wouldn't be surprised if the remaining festival confirmation on monday is either Roskilide or Rock Werchter.
So I'm going for:
Pinkpop
Primavera/Benicassim
Roskilde or Rock Werchter
Not sure what the others could be, I'd expect some of them to be fairly small (under 50,000) like they did in 2005, but I half expect these monday announcements to be biggies as its a long time until the festival season starts.
I'm mostly basing this on what have previously been favourite festivals of the band and where there are currently free slots for headliners. Robert will probably turn around and tell us Monday that they are playing 20 small folk festivals around Europe with crowds of less than 5,000 people.
Don't think they'll do any U.K festivals, Bestival was one of the few which would fit the critera of them wanting to play it, being able to headline and having a large enough crowd to make it relevant. The only possibility (and its a vague one) is probably T but they usually book 2 modern acts and one older which is back in the limelight and they already have The Stone Roses for that. Still doubt very much it would be Reading and Leeds, it certainly won't be this Monday anyway as they don't announce until March.
Although me and Aaron (curedtc) had the same idea with the distorted image. If the the Green Parts and Blue lines are showing cities/locations then I'm guessing at festivals in:
ReplyDeleteIreland, Northern UK (Maybe Scotland? Could be T Festival), Southern France, Northern Spain Benicassim), Italy, Denmark (Roskilde), Norway, Sweden and then possibly Russia.
well that is a heck of a lot of Green dots!!! - looks like a TON of Festivals. I hope they do play far off locations and NEW festivals that they have never played. I hope that many fans that have never seen them before will get the opportunity. & that the cure will get exposed to more fans.. ... So very happy to be a cure fan - i am looking forward to it all. Esp the live COF updates. :)
ReplyDeleteReally when you keep staring at the blue dots and green streaks the whole universe makes sense. They're definitely playing in Nova Scotia from what I can see. Plus there's a new triple album coming out this August. That's obvious by certain hints that have been dropped here and there on these and other web inter-connected sites
ReplyDeletethey will play in Athens,Greece.
ReplyDeleteThat is the only one which has been confirmed around a month ago....
Anyway, wish to all of you good luck
:)
@Paul K: You are absolutely right! And then in December they are going to break up, for real this time! The Mayans have predicted it!
ReplyDeleteThe upper right corner is Japan (summer sonic)
ReplyDeleteBut I don't live in Europe!!
ReplyDeleteJust kidding.. this is great news, and what I hope is just the tip of the iceberg.. :)

ReplyDeleteSo happy because they are touring again and plenty of people is going to enjoy the band but .. *sigh* a bit disappointing for me.. You European people are SO lucky! Wish I was there! Wish they were here.. Anyway, this kind of news revitalize my hopes of having them this side of the world :)

ReplyDeleteOoops so sorry, posting issues :$
ReplyDeletethe upper right corner is obviously finland! fingers crossed that i'll get to see the cure in my home country for the first time since 1992.
ReplyDelete@Antti: Sure it's Finland? Looks more like Stockholm... I would love Cure at Ruisrock. That would be heaven.
ReplyDeleteno, i'm not sure. but it looks like there's a dot on göteborg as well. seems odd that they would play two shows in sweden.
ReplyDeletealthough all the festivals in finland apart from flow festival are shit so..
ReplyDeleteEi! Ruisrock is good, Provinssi at leat decent... Flow Festival would be amazing, but it's too small for Cure I suppose.
ReplyDeleteSounds like they may well be playing festivals in the UK actually roger said on twitter (replying to somebody): "Last time I checked the UK was a part of Europe no? Unless Cameron did something while I was asleep!"
ReplyDeleteBut then you never can trust Roger on twitter hahaha.
@swinging adonais. if flow was big enough for kanye i can't see why it would be too small for the cure.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/Whats-on-leisure/Rants-and-Raves/Cure-for-all-ills-13012012.htm
ReplyDeletehttp://thecurerarities.blogspot.com/
@Antti: If it was for me they could play at Nosturi in front of 900 people. If only... toivottavasti on hyvä.
ReplyDeletethose are def map markers. cool!
ReplyDeleteHmm, the northern dots... one is obvioulsy somewhere in the south of Sweden (what fetsivals are there? hultsfred Arvika??), the middle one seems more like Roskilde to me than Götaborg, and one in the north of Germany (Hurricane Festival?)
ReplyDeleteI'm most curious about the dot that could stand for north Italy or Switzerland ;-) Let's hope for Avenches (Rock Oz'Arenes) again :-)
I wouldn't read too much into the green dots. There's a dot over Ireland which only has two festivals. Oxegen (where they played before) is cancelled this year and The Electric Picnic hasn't even been confirmed.
ReplyDeleteElectric Picnic 2012 is confirmed. Early bird tickets have already been sold
ReplyDeletehttp://electricpicnic.ie/inner.php?locID=113013
There is also 'Belsonic' and 'Tennents Vital' but these are much smaller
ReplyDeleteDidn't realise that Alastair. EP would be great
ReplyDeleteOh, it's a map with Europe at the center. I totally didn't see that. Thanks, Craig.
ReplyDeleteDid you see what Roger posted on Facebook?
ReplyDelete"Big announcement today we will be playing all of the European Summer festivals this Summer! The dates will follow over the coming weeks and I will be seeing you all soon!"
So there you go. No need to wonder and speculate, they are playing ALL European Festivals this Summer. :)
I was just going to email you that Craig! That is great news! Although, I will have to wait for them to come back to the states, way too much work for me to get done here, I cant leave the country any time this year. Have fun with all the anxiety getting tickets, booking flights, rooms, meet ups. Fuji, I will be looking forward to your great shots! Good luck all.
ReplyDeleteIt's either Electric Picnic or Forbidden Fruit festival in Ireland.Forbidden Fruit would be amazing..fingers crossed
ReplyDeleteI'm torn as to whether I should travel to Europe next summer for a few festivals or hold out in hopes of one more proper world tour (which would be preferable!).
ReplyDeleteThe eastern points on the map might as well be Opener in Gdynia or other Polish festival. Which I hope for!
ReplyDeleteHopefully they'll look into getting a second guitarist first. Using tapes to provide backing guitar at bestival was EMBARASSING.
ReplyDelete@7afa398 etc
DeleteYou need to listen more carefully before making such claims. Roger is an extremely accomplished keyboard player. He was using guitar samples and playing those parts on keyboards. Sounds damn fine to me!
Tapes to provide backing guitars ???! You dreamt it.
ReplyDeletewill Bilbao be included? i can't wait for that since there are rumors that they will be headlining it together with Radiohead!

???
Wow. All (big) summer festivals? Guess I know what I will be doing this summer then ;)
ReplyDeleteBetter start saving up some money.

ReplyDeleteWonderful news! Thanks a lot - after the excellent 'Reflections' series in Sydney, London, LA and NY, the triumphant Bestival show and the live CD in 2011, this is such a great idea, to continue with the momentum of The Cure and its current sound. Can't wait to see you this Summer somewhere in Europe and in the UK (hopefully London?) too. With no Glastonbury in 2012, I wonder if the young Ms Eavis will ever get to make amends for her father's past comments about The Cure's festival sets? Maybe someday. CRx

So, just to clarify.. They're playing TWO German festivals between the 22nd and 24th of June??
ReplyDeleteYes. Looks like they don't have the exact dates nailed down just yet, but will play both that weekend.
ReplyDeleteThey have a lot of stamina for a bunch of old buggers!
ReplyDeleteSouthside and Hurricane are organized by the same one promoter and basically got the same line-up, simply distributed over the 3 days.
ReplyDeletebtw the worst case as I iagined, Southside completly sucks, airport ruway... the location has no atmosphere at all.. and approx 40000 boozing rocksters hanging around :-/
The rest of the Hurricane/Southside line up is complete garbage, but as it's the closest festival to me I guess I will go.

ReplyDeleteHultsfred!!!!OMG- Thank You!!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is my lucky day and I invite you ALL to sleep on my couch.
HULTSFRED OMG:))
ReplyDeleteYES, YES, YES!!!
HULTSFRED OMG:))
ReplyDeleteYES, YES, YES!!!
That's very kind currerbell!!might just take you up on that!Reading on Wikipedia,it looks like the festival suffered some financial setback in the last couple of years and was cancelled last year..The Cure were also suposed to play there in 1996 but again the festival was cancelled, according to this.
ReplyDeletehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hultsfredsfestivalen
or...we can turn my garden into The Cof Campsite :)
ReplyDeletehultsfred is a very nice little festival. it has a special place in my heart
Hello JC, Cure was actually playing in Hultsfred -96.
ReplyDeleteYou can check here for info http://www.cure-concerts.de/concerts/1996-06-13.php
And i hope you come to Hultsfred in June;)
Best regards/Lasse
Cure at Pinkpop Netherlands confirmed!
ReplyDeleteI'm in ecstasy! The Cure in Sweden, outside, midnight sun, this summer...it's going to be awesome
ReplyDeleteDo they sell boots at IdealCopy? because there's a strange dvd http://idealcopy.american-data.net//Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=807297020892 which looks 100% unofficial, but i just wanted to be sure...
ReplyDeleteDefinitely going to Hultsfred and the one close to Hamburg - hoping for Roskilde too.
ReplyDelete@fabien looks like a bootleg to me... the song selection is pretty odd too... don't think they would do anything like that for an official release... i'd be real disappointed in the tracklist if this was official...
ReplyDeleteHultsfred yes! Hoping for another one in Sweden or close by so I can go to at least two!
ReplyDeleteYou would not hear me complaining at all if they came to OZ for Splendor.. but as you say.. it's a very long shot..
ReplyDeleteYeah, last time I checked, Australia wasn't part of Europe. : )
ReplyDeleteStill, nothing to stop them from visiting later in the year, I suppose, if what Musicfeeds says is true.

ReplyDeleteFirst three Summer festivals announced for The Cure; Hultsfred, Sweden, Hurricane and Southside, Germany!

My guess is that The Cure will play Nortside Festival in Denmark (northside.dk) - they are strongly connected with Hurricane/Southside - so I guess no Roskilde Festival apperance

ReplyDeleteFantastic news! Really hoping for some UK dates and lots of stuff in August. :D
ReplyDeletesomeone in Sweden who knows which day cure will play? thursday, friday or saturday?
ReplyDelete/Lasse
good to see them on the road again but i'm afraid the will keep playing the same set of songs since 2005 :/
ReplyDeletemorover who is in the band nowdays? the Bestival sounded howeful so i won't invest my money in the same line up
Rumours that The Cure will be playing at Latitude in the UK in July. Also if you look on this page, about halfway down, there is a rather less obscured version of that image :)
ReplyDeleteforums.latitudefestival.co.uk/m127109-p26.aspx
The dates announced today seem to fit in with the dots on the map.
If this is true it will be the closest The Cure get to playing in my backgarden, live about 15 miles from the Latitude festival.
Wonder if Robert would like to come and stay.......
i like the way you're thinking thesmudge...
ReplyDeletehi, a friend of mine, who works for a ticket reservation office, told me The Cure will play at Rome in June...
ReplyDeleteI find it enormously hard to believe that in the middle of the European festivals in June/July/August the Cure will pack up and head to Oz for ONE festival. Unlikely....... but I wont be unhappy if Robert wants to prove me wrong.
ReplyDeleteIn Rome there is the "Rock in Roma" festival in June/July... Is it possible?
ReplyDelete@fabien: definitely a bootleg. bought it a few years ago. nothing new.
ReplyDeleteThanks GSC1, was 99% sure, but I wanted the 1% confirmation.
ReplyDeleteSuper excited that all of you get to see them at some festivels. After that's all said and done though, please don't hesitate to come to the states, it's been way too long since a proper tour!
ReplyDeleteHey, we got 6 Reflections shows, Europe only got 1. I'll take that over festivals any day. : )
ReplyDeleteAnd no one is saying these are the only shows to be played this year.
Just a wish, Why dont they ever play Lament?
ReplyDeleteto be honest - a new record would be more worth to me!!!!
ReplyDeleteI just like that they're using that old logo. Wish they WOULD use it on a new album.
ReplyDeleteThere's a possibilty I might actually show up in Europe this summer! and I've never been there before! why? because you only live once! And then you may get reincarnated later but in the next life you might not even know who The Cure are anymore because now it's the year 2072, you are 20 years old after having died in 2050and then being reborn in 2052. A small group of weirdo's are into some ancient band called the Cure that your grandparents listened to! But you won't know anything about them so now is your chance to see them in Sweden during the midnight sun a bunch of beautiful Scandinavian sexy people partying at one o'clock in the morning while the sun is still out and you are like a clueless American wandering around stoned and thinking, 'Are they going to play Lament?' or 'Isn't this where Abba got their start?'
ReplyDeleteI hope we get the Reflections DVD before any new Festival 2012 DVD. :P
ReplyDeleteBtw, it looks a lot like that map someone made was right.
ReplyDeleteYeah, just filled in the new dates on it, and it fits. Hmm...
ReplyDeleteApart from Pinkpop they are all on that map anyway.
ReplyDeleteWhich confirms to me that the map was an educated guess by someone rather than some sort of leak because the whole of the Netherlands was covered up on the original image.
The big question for me is where is the UK date?
ReplyDeleteIts between Latitude and Leeds (and therefore Reading too). It could be either of them as Latitude is East of London but in an area of that map that is covered by the graphic and is therefore either distorted to the North or covered up.
Leeds is more central and North and if the green dot was there it would be dragged towards the swirl in the middle like the green line is.
Reading is also annoying covered up by the swirling thing too.
Oh I totally agree about it not being an official image. Like you said, someone recreating it and using their best guesses. I still find it fascinating and fun. : )
ReplyDeleteIt sure is fun Craig :). Robert surely knew that image would get people speculating where and it only adds to the hype and press for the band, hah.
ReplyDeleteHi there, anyone knows whether the Rome thing is a Cure only gig? Looks like a bit... Thanks Sven
ReplyDeleteinteresting logo on the Roma info, original over 92:)
ReplyDeleteLes Eurockeennes in Belfort!! Hell yeah!!! I saw them there back in 1995, and it's even closer to my home than the terrible Southside festival. So this is excelelnt news today, I'm already getting excited :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Cure will play on saturday 30th june at the Eurockeennes festival : http://www.fnacspectacles.com/place-spectacle/manifestation/Pop-rock-Folk-LES-EUROCKEENNES-DE-BELFORT-3-JOURS-EURO3.htm
ReplyDeleteGREAT NEWS but i'm waiting for another BIG BIG NEWS??...WHEN will we get NEWS about A NEW ALBUM (not Wish Deluxe)
ReplyDelete....:(
N could be wiesen near vienna. would be nice to see them there again. the last wiesen concert 1998 was a sort of mess up as i remember.
ReplyDeleteAnd South America??? Why Robert Why!!! I am nearly 36 years old and I have been waiting 26 years for you...
ReplyDeleteHey what a great new!!! Robert pls consider Hunagry! The Sziget Festival is one of the bests anyways. Or mybe the Volt Festival!! Would love to see the Cure coming back to Hungary earlier than the usual 10+ years!!!

ReplyDeleteCan I ask... How does one by tickets from America? I'm interested in the shows in France and Rome. I don't understand their websites because they are in another language of course and there's the money issue...
ReplyDeletehelp?
To book tickets for Les Eurockeennes, use the link provideed by Craig.
ReplyDeleteChoose between
3 days pass (1st line)
single day (2nd line - available soon)
or week-end (3rd line)
(all are 3 days camping included)
click on the green button 'disponible' (means available now').
it opens a new window. click on red button 'réserver' (means 'book').
it opens a new window, select number of tickets needed.
new window, click 'ajouter au panier' ('add to cart')
new window, click 'valider votre commande' (validate your order')
And i didn't do after that but you certainly have to give your personnal information, adress, etc...
It will create you an account which will later on allow you to log in and check you order, print your ticket, and so on.
It seems you can only use credit card Mastercard or Visa, not Paypal.
As for the different currency, pay with the card you usually use. You bank will charge you a few $ for paying in a different currency, check your bank for knowing how much.
Hope that helps.
Or else you can always call them i guess, some people will speak english surely.
ReplyDeleteNo Porl or Borris, no interest
ReplyDeletegood gravy! i'm away for 2 weeks with the flu and come back to this! the boys sure aren't resting on their laurels! have a great time, my european friends! :D
ReplyDeleteHey thanks alot Fabien G I really appreciate that information, very considerate thank you!!!
ReplyDeletehow amazing!! I have yet to buy the Bestival CD, but I've already listened to the songs and they still sound amazing live! I'm so happy they're doing more shows. I can only hope they will get over here to America in a while :)
ReplyDeleteHurrah! My chum from Italy got us tickets for the show in Rome, three hours of The Cure in July, can't wait!
ReplyDeleteAccording to this report, they will be playing on the Saturday night at Les Eurockeenes..
ReplyDeletehttp://www.leparisien.fr/flash-actualite-culture/the-cure-au-programme-de-la-24e-edition-des-eurockeennes-de-belfort-18-01-2012-1817583.php
@ Paul K: when you buy rome tickets you can choose english. that made things easier for me ;)
ReplyDeleteThe Cure confirmed just now at Alive Festival (Portugal) press conference.

ReplyDeleteThe Cure will play at July 14 at Alive Festival, Portugal.
ReplyDeleteLisbon, Portugal : Optimus Alive Festival confirmation: July 14th (http://www.optimusalive.com/en)
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Paul, i'm glad when somebody helps me, so it feels normal.
ReplyDeleteDamn I've been sick for a week & I don't check this place out for a few days & bam The Cure announce festival dates in Europe! This is Very Exciting News and RS said there is more to come! YAHOO!!! I hope to see The Cure again some day soon!!!
ReplyDeleteI would like to make a trip over this summer for these shows but as usual I'm not sure but it looks like there will be more! So I'm hoping they stop by to other parts of the world later in the year! 2012 looks like it's going to be a great year to be a Cure Fan!!!
I'm quite sensitive in the cold, that's why I very rarely go to festival.
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested to go to Scandinavia, but to watch an outdoor concert at midnight there, it must feel freezing when you're not used to that weather? (especially if it rains!)
14th July @ Lisbon's Optimus Alive Festival (together with Radiohead, Stone Roses, Florence, Metronomy, Mazzy Star, Snow Patrol, etc) has just been confirmed by a national radio here in Portugal :D
ReplyDeletePortugal 14 July!
ReplyDeleteOk so July 14th date is ticked off.
ReplyDeleteIf BilbaoBBK is still on the cards then it can only be the 12th as Radiohead is playing on 13th.
As for the other date in Spain, what about Benecassim? Its on at the same time and they've played there before. Seems possible they could play on the 15th?
This comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteThat makes Latitude festival a definite no then surely. It's on the same weekend as Optimus , so they'd have to get their kit from Portugal to England in a few hours overnight...
ReplyDeleteVery true. Hmm, so maybe it really will be Reading and Leeds?
ReplyDeleteOr maybe, just maybe, they are playing the opening or closing ceremony for the London Olympics. : )
Personally I'm hoping for Wireless Festival or Hard Rock Calling (probably the former), as they're both in Hyde Park in the centre of London, and not really proper festivals - as in there's no camping, you just buy a day ticket and there are bands on the stage during the day followed by the headliners.
ReplyDeleteSo they're pretty much like a normal gig with extended support, in a park in the middle of London. Otherwise second choice would be R&L, they are both pretty easy to get to, unlike Latitude.
Wireless would seem to be ruled out, as the only date available would be July 6th, and they are in Italy on the 7th & 9th, and in Denmark sometime between July 5th - 8th.
ReplyDeleteAnd Hard Rock Calling is July 13th - 15th, so same problem as Latitude.
I can still be Latitude but its looking less and less likely now, they could play Primavera Spain in May and then Benicassim on Latitude weekend and still just about do it. But it really would be a logistical nightmare.
ReplyDeleteTheir status on Efestivals has changed from 'rumour' to 'strong rumour' for latitude though interestingly enough.
I'm really hoping the Reading / Leeds rumour is true. If they play that and then do Electric Picnic in Ireland after, I'll be a happy camper. Both are close enough together and far enough in the future (end of August) that I can have the time to save up some money to go!
ReplyDeleteElectric picnic in Ireland is a super event Rev. Its aimed at a mature audience. Never any trouble and a really relaxed atmosphere. A much better choice of venue and crowd than the oxegen festival which they played a number of years back. If it does get confirmed and I really hope it does then I would highly recommend it. Meet you there for Cure drinks?
ReplyDeletePrimavera Sound (Barcelona) just confirmed. June 1.

ReplyDeleteDo Norway have to wait another 16 years ' Robert ?
ReplyDelete@Criag - the Spain shows are already confirmed on the official site.
ReplyDelete@samthedog - thanks for the advice, it sounds like a lovely time. It's a date! :D
ReplyDeleteHey guys, I'd like to ask Robert to get their own light and video system during the 2012 festivals, and Abigail Rosen Holmes would be perfect. Would you like to join me and write him a message ?
ReplyDeletePlacebo have just announced they will be playing summer festivals too, so there could likely be some crossover.. Lucky Europeans!
ReplyDeleteRadiohead and The Cure!!! My life is now complete...
ReplyDeletecan anyone give me more info on the heineken jammin? it seems like the cure concert is part of a festival but a separate gig. i don't understand italian. thanks!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.truckfest.co.uk/
ReplyDeletei got fingers crossed they will be doing this one near me.
in the past it has had status quo, abba, pink floyd [all tribute acts].
I hope they play a few new songs here and there, then after the festival season start a world tour to support a new record.
ReplyDeleteRev. Heron, I'm hoping for Reading/Leeds as well as that falls on my birthday and that would be awesome! I'm hoping to make it across the pond for one of these festivals!
ReplyDeleteJus after looking this new promo pic i think there are any trace of doubt about which will be the line-up for shows ahead....
ReplyDeleteSome will be happy, some won´t.
The best thing is the bands keeps moving and this something that should bring joy to us.
Can´t wait to have info about new album/new songs...
:)
@explodingboy
ReplyDeleteListen to push. The rhythm guitar lines are definitely not being played live via synth. It's Tape Tape Tape! Hence, the reason for the click track.
Sad to see. But then again, U2's fans haven't complained and they've been doing that for years.
I just always felt that the Cure thought they were above that. OH well, guess I'm wrong.
But that's nothing new for The Cure, either. They have been using backing tracks since 1998 or so. I don't like it either, but I don't think they're going to stop.
ReplyDeleteRock Werchter! Now we're talking. As cool as the Pinkpop confirmation was in itself, it's not a festival I have any intention of ever visiting. Werchter on the other hand is definitely worth considering.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDelete...News about a new Album....When...When Dear mr Robert???....my patience is so close from implosion but i have a smile on my face when i'm listening this another Mix of OPEN....Why Robert did u not put this far better version on the Wish Album...maybe on the Deluxe Wish edition ???!!
ReplyDeletehttp://youtu.be/abKhOf_nit4
Craig, during 4tour, the tapes were really relegated to just simple "one-finger" synth lines. Big deal.
ReplyDeleteIt's never been as blatant or brazen as in the Bestival performance. There are parts where there's three guitars in the mix, but only Robert playing. It makes the show almost feel like karaoke.
It was an understandable stop-gap for a one-off performance.
However, I hope this is not a portent of things to come.
7afa etc. etc.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what you're listening to but I certainly can not notice any songs that have backing tracks for two or three additional guitar. A lot of the songs sounded and still sound flat most because they were played with just one guitar so if there were backing tapes...they weren't very good lol
And give us some examples apart from Push! It was hard enough to tell who was playing what in that when Porl was in the band.
ReplyDeleteI'm not denying they use backing tracks by the way, but I thought the Bestival show out of the shows I've seen, had by far the least backing tracks.
ReplyDeleteFunnily enough, it was also the show when I thought their sound was the least full or deep.
Is it possible that Robert did some "sweetening" in post production when he was mixing it?
ReplyDeleteI have only heard this complaint from fans listening to the CD, not from those who were actually at the show. So maybe Robert added a little extra to fill out the sound?
Maybe Craig! I just compared the TV mix of bestival to the CD mix for Push and they are certainly different so maybe Robert has done some overdubs on the CD.
ReplyDeleteSaying that, they were different mixes but I didn't notice additional guitar on either!
ReplyDeleteThis story of backing tracks for additional guitars is just a lie... bullshit. Stop spreading false information, please.

ReplyDeleteDavid, The Cure have been using backing tracks since 1997 or 98.
ReplyDeleteYess!! More to come!! **crosses fingers for UK dates**
ReplyDeleteit sometimes is pretty obvieous when they use backing tracks, I remeber wondering where the keyboard came from in "kyoto Song" on the 4 Tour 4 example.
ReplyDeleteI am still unaible to hear backing tracks on Bestival though (and I am also a musician, seems not to be the real proof for anything, is it :))
But I also have to admit that I really don't care, since there are still 4 members playing their instruments live. And they have been using backing tracks even in 1981 if you want to be pretty exactly, they were using electronical drums on some songs. While this might not be considered as a real backing track :).
But I don't mind at all, since their still one of the best live bands in the world performing such intense sets.
And: I like Jason too, really never got into why some don't like him, and he pretty much looks like a younger Boris version right now...:)
I just can say I was pretty impressed by the drum parts on the shows I've been to in the last 10 years (exspecially the Trilogy show in Brussels) And I just love all the drum parts from Bloodflowers.
and no other cure drummer had such a hard sound on "100 years",
ReplyDeletein the hope not get banned or killed:
I think Boris sound (more or less meaning the wish tour) is too soft for me.....
...gotta run for life now....
The concert on July 7th near Milan seems to have 2 ticket categories:
ReplyDelete- general admission
- UNICO Pit Gold
Intero, PIT Fronte Palco
Section: Non Num.
s Block: PIT GOLD
Sounds like this is a front of stage area???
New song by my band The 17 Seconds: Settle for less and Settle down - http://youtu.be/hUMd6ca9gIk . Check it out if you want to. The Cure coming to sweden! Yes!
ReplyDeleteMy tickets for the Heineken Jammin Festival (7th July, Milan Italy) are in my hands!!! WOnderful Summer...
ReplyDeleteA bit of Cure spotting. Amanda Palmer mentions Robert Smith in her new blog. (After meeting Richard o'Brian) "what is it about coming to australasia and meeting my fucking soul heroes?
ReplyDeletestop, already. if i bump into robert smith at a water fountain while jogging in wellington, i’m going to just kill myself.
does robert smith do his hair like that when he jogs?
DOES ROBERT SMITH JOG??
i wonder these things."
Pretty funny read as usual:

how do you know, that at southside festival it's friday 22nd? would be great for me though... :-)
ReplyDeleteSorry, that was a mistake, Stefan. Not sure which day it is.
ReplyDeleteFrance - Belfort - Eurockéennes:The one day ticket will be available next monday in the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteCraig,
ReplyDeleteI know they use backing stuff for a long time but the way some present it here sounds like if The Cure on stage were a big sampler. 95% of the music is played live so what the fuck if one line is being played by a machine ? Wake up guys, it's 2012 ! Heard of electro music ?! Massive Attack, Portishead, Tricky, Faithless... all old wolves now, you see what I mean ?
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI made a mistake, I bought online two more tickets for the Cure Show (and more bands to come)in Milan at the Heineken Jamming Festival on 07/07/2012. I have paid € 63.25 each more commissions, sell them at € 60 each. For info email me at: carmapo@libero.it
