Cure not inducted into R & R Hall of Fame

The Cure were not chosen for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame this year. See the full list of inductees here. This does not mean they will never get in, they just didn't make it on their first attempt. (Thanks Curepol)

Update: Very nice articles about this at the CNN Geek Out blog and PopMatters. (Thanks Frank and Slicingeyeballs)

  1. Really the chili peppers got in over t he cure? They have like two combined good albums. I know that it doesn't matter to robert, he's said so, but i honestly hope they get in next year, the band truly deserves it.

  3. that's the same with the academy award. one of the greatest directors of all times - alfred hitchcock - never received one. so absurd are prizes and hall of fames!

  4. TBH - would you want to be on that list?

  7. How many academy awards won Stanley Kubrick, the best director of all times?

  8. The R & R Hall of Fame is a sham. They induct Guns n Roses, a bunch of idiots who made ONE (1) great album 25 years ago and they ignore bands like Rush, Yes, etc, etc.

The ONLY reason why GNR got inducted is because they want the press and the drama to bring attention to the R n R Hall of Fame.

    Pathetic.

  9. how did the cure do on the poll?

  10. All things considered, the group to be nominated in the first place is nothing to be unhappy about..

  11. The Cure got the 3rd highest amount of votes!

  13. If this world made sense, then this wouldn't make sense. So the R&R Hall of Fame is tone deaf. No worries.. I'd rather be in Robert's shoes making the best sounds on the planet and influencing so many new generations of musicians along the way, than being doused with some form of inclusion by a tourist attraction.

You are right GSC1... prizes and halls of fame are by nature absurd.

  14. Whereas I do think it's ridiculous that The Cure didn't make it on their first ballot, I don't think GnRs and Beastie Boys making it is unwarranted. They have been important and influential bands for a long time. I think it simply speaks of the perception about The Cure on this side of the Atlantic...

  15. @rta

i know this isn't gonna be a popular comment, but the beastie boys are revolutionary in hip hop, particularly on the production side.

  16. GnR is inflential like Counting Crows are influential. RRHOF is a gimmick at best. Non-news.

  17. Really, who are the people who care about shit like this? It doesn't have any inherant value I'm guessing Robert knows that.

  18. I think this was the Chili Peppers' second attempt as well, so it's not uncommon at all for bands to get nominated several times.

Surely it will happen in the next few years. Maybe Depeche can somehow get in at the same time as well (right).

  19. ..still trying to figure out what it is i'm missing with depeche mode, but apparently it's something.

  20. The Beastie Boys & Guns n Roses over the Cure? I'm disappointed but I knew The Cure would not get in this time around. Hopefully next time they will & Depeche Mode too!

  23. @Scott - That was a great article. Captures my feelings about The Cure not getting into HOF.

  24. what needs to happen is for robert and the gang to come onstage a few times with nothing more than tube socks covering their boy parts. that and give a few interviews with VH1 about how much they struggled with drugs and alcohol, but they're all better now! if they were to do that, they'd be shoo ins!
