Christina Applegate was on Jimmy Kimmel last night (watch at 21:02, also on Youtube), and talked about loving The Cure at 13, Goths, attending Reflections LA, and needing a nap during the Faith set. : ) (Thanks Alan)
Did you actually watch it? I thought it was a nice interview. She talked about being a fan since she was 13, and going to a bunch of shows. It was a pretty large portion of her interview. Pretty rare to see The Cure get so much attention on a US tv show. Maybe not the best publicity to say that you had to take a nap during the show, but she was playing it off more as she is old now, not that it was boring.
And I hardly think Christina is C-. She's on a pretty popular show here, and a very good actress.
Agree. She's a fan. And a parent of young kids. And a cancer survivor. So if she used a night away from the kids to see a band and got a little sleepy, I'll give her that. ;)
Related note - at the Kiss Me! Tour in 87, a girl a few rows behind me at Nassau Coliseum in NY kept SCREAMING for The Snakepit, and when it came on, she threw herself down the stairs, rolling down to the bottom of our section. Then got up, and kept screaming and singing. True story.
I like reading about celebrities that are Cure fans, because then when I become rich and famous myself someday, I know that at parties at least we'll have something to talk about.
Kidding aside, I automatically like anyone more when I find out they like the Cure.
At the Kissing Tour, when WCIBY started, my friend jumped around so much he fell down into the row in front. I think that tour had the most energy from the crowd because the Cure were running up to a high, the music was fun and the crowds were younger, including me (17).
That's not a nice thing to say. So made a few very funny movies and her guest role in Friends it's one of the funniest ever...she even got an emmy for that part.
And for someone coming from a very popular show like Married with Children she does very well.
Fishbones - Um, yeah, she has. Quite an active & successful career. And life.
People, seriously, watch the freaking clip if you're going to post about it. Don't just leave a comment for the lulz, or because, "ZOMG, that has-been knows nothing about The Cure! She is teh suck!"
Very nice of her to talk about THE CURE during her interview - I think I actually sat near her during the LA show - I saw him snoozing! the singer from AFI was directly in front of me and he was having a wonderful experience - he sure loved those pop songs....

Shes on a really funny show right now called up all night with wil arnet too! Her character even talks about when she was younger beijg alternative, green doc martins etc. And had a pretty funny scene of her loosing it to depeche mode.
Before "Married", Christina was on "Heart Of The City", this was 86, same year I got into The Cure. I had a hudge crush on her in this show, she was new wave/goth from what I remember. Wish I seen here at the Pantages.
yes i saw it. sorry, didn´t want to be rude to chris applegate. i know her history and i´m happy that she is still with us. my statement was more sort of. i don´t really care if someone likes or dislikes the cure. that doesn´t make them more or less valuable to me.
Sad and scary to hear that one of her memorable Cure moments was the guy who stabbed himself at the LA Forum. I shouldn't ask this but what is this guy up to these days?
it was a cute interview. just take it for what it is i suppose. there's nothing derogatory going on. i actually found it a bit entertaining to hear her take on the stabbing.
i've worked with teenagers for many, many years in the past and trust me...Cure music has impacted her life at 13 more than she knows how to admit (i mean dude, she's wearing all black. the little closet goth ;).
The mind loves dualities. So, if you love the Cure you can take anything even remotely connected to that love and frame it as a This vs. That proposition. Christina Applegate! does she really love the Cure or is she faking it? is she Satan's spawn? Do any of her movies count?
bla bla bla... who cares what a c- or even less-prom thinks about the cure!

(Sorry - that was related to Applegate's story about the guy stabbing himself repeatedly at a Cure show at The Forum. Not her falling asleep. ;) )
ReplyDeleteMan, what was it about the Kissing Tour that made so many fans suicidal? Or at least stupid? : )

ReplyDeleteI remember that show where the fan stabbed himself. That was a long time ago
ReplyDeleteNo way can you fall asleep to the Faith album.
ReplyDeleteHas she doe anything relevant since 'Married with Children', lol?

ReplyDeleteNo suprise to me, that she likes The Cure.
i can't watch it as i'm not in the us :(
ReplyDeletesaw it on youtube. nice.
ReplyDeleteThe only one from 'Married with Children' who has done well is David Faustino (aka Bud).
ReplyDeleteHow many Oscars can that guy keep winning? After 1998, 1999, 2002, 2005, and last year's Best Actor again, he is arguably one of the best of all time!
I heard he got offered 50 million to play Bilbo Baggins as well!
;)

I Love Christina Applegate, i think she was kind of 'ironic' about falling asleep ;) great woman, happy she still alive after cancer !
I'm sorry anyone who 'falls asleep' during a Cure set is not a real fan, lol.
ReplyDeleteAnyone who brags about it on national TV is certainly not respectful of the band.
How would she feel if Robert Smith said he falls asleep in her movies?
Rhetorical question of the day: What defines a real fan? Talk amongst yourselves. Or not. I don't really care.
ReplyDeleteJust basically, I think the whole "so-in-so's not a true fan because" talk is a bit pointless and ridiculous.
everyone was at reflections besides meee :(
