"It's not a Schecter ad (it's fucking terrible!), but at least you can see the bass...from Guitar World's Holiday Buyers Guide... It's a preview, the Simon bass is 'soon-to-be-released'."
Click here for larger version of the ad.
As previously reported, it should be released in January.

On the bass subject, I remember at the time of relesae of The Cure (2004 then) an itw of Simon in an english or american bass player magasine. Anyone remembers what mag it was?
ReplyDeleteYes! Just found it for you. Autumn posted it at Pictures of You.
ReplyDeleteI love women and all...but I think it's stupid to have one depicted on this ad. Let's focus on the instrument here.
ReplyDeleteCouldn't agree more, Andy.
ReplyDelete"Ugh, what are you looking at?!"--my boyfriend, upon seeing the picture over my shoulder.
ReplyDeleteI want it! I wish... It would look so nice next to my UltraCure. I saw the Schecter guys show up at the Pantages, with a prototype I think. I know they had to make the bass lighter for Simon.
(Disclaimer: I am horrible at both guitar and bass, especially guitar.)
Considering that the bass hasn't been released, I somehow doubt that :). I don't even think they're done finalizing it.
ReplyDeletePretty sure that post from Mike was just spam or a plug for his or a friend's band, so deleted it.
ReplyDeleteaww come on craig, just tryin to spread the music love around cof. its all about the music, right?
ReplyDeleteanyway check it out!

Actually it's not a bad picture but I'd rather see Simon in it!
ReplyDeleteMike - I would have no problem with it if you were honest about it. No need to make stuff up. It just looks bad.
ReplyDeleteIt would have been cool for Simon to pose with the bass and do a crouching shot between songs or before a bass riff. That'd be really badass.
ReplyDeleteThat's a really great article from 2004. Thank you for bringing it up Fabien, and thank you for finding it Craig! After all, Simon inspired me to pick up a bass in the first place. I'm glad there was an article recognizing his awesomeness and contributions to The Cure.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, the article mislabels Roger as the drummer and Jason as the keyboardist, haha.
This is so UN-CURE.. My god... THIS is what we want to see...

I'm pretty sure a photo of Simon with the bass would sell more! Who wouldn't want to look as awesome as Simon does holding one?
ReplyDeleteHeehee.

ReplyDeleteDon't fret people, a better picture of the bass should come out soon.
ReplyDeleteEvery year Guitar world does an issue with Girls holding guitars, all other issues are guitars and their players. Maybe once this bass does come out, we will get an interview with Simon and the bass.
You guys don't get it... The model was told it was a photoshoot for a "Cure through musical therapy" and so she agreed to do the shoot for free! Schecter obviously knew the ad would appeal to Cure fans throughout the world. Err...
ReplyDeletegreat bass i love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Craig, for the link to the bass magazine I was looking for. I had been looking carefully I thought, but not carefully enough it seems. Sorry to make you work !
ReplyDeleteYUCK. those guitars sound muddy to me. Having Simon on board with them, I don't expect anything more than a loss of clarity despite what the ad boasts. The guitars sometime sound good when strumming them as if they were an acoustic, but for leads I'm turned off. Bring back the gibson guitars. If I hear simon playing one of these on Piggy in the Mirror and the bass isn't crisp and pop driven as it has been in the past, I will be sad sad sad!!! Just my opinion, 26 years of playing guitars/bass here.
ReplyDeleteNo problem at all, Fabien G. Always glad to help.
ReplyDeletecrap advert for a piece-o-crap schecter... that's about right, i figure. a complete abomination ~ i hope they paid simon well.
ReplyDeleteIt's not like I've played too many different basses, but I really like my Schecter Elite 004. It has a lovely tone. I've heard that Simon's Ultra Bass has quite a good sound. Robert is quite particular, so one would at least HOPE that he wouldn't use these guitars if he didn't like the sound. I have faith, at least.
ReplyDeleteThe bass guitar used to be such a unique and driving force with The Cure. Now, it's become...this.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, the horrible advertisement is suitable for the horrible guitar.
ReplyDeleteThis picture is just as ridiculous as The Cure using Schecters in the first place.
word.
ReplyDeleteVery, VERY disapointing to see the Cure has anything to do with this horrible advert. When did music become a motocycle fair?
ReplyDeleteIt's the same feeling you get when you hear Robert collaborates with an artists you hate. Expect now nobody at all is pleased
But The Cure had nothing to do with the ad. For all we know, Schecter didn't have anything to do with the ad. The magazine put this together for their buyer's guide. Simon probably doesn't even know the ad exists.
