According to Beatsmedia, Robert Smith will be a guest on the new album from The Japanese Popstars. (Thanks Anna)
Update: The album is currently scheduled to be released on June 13th.
Update 2: More info on Robert's track, 'Take Forever', from Recordstore.co.uk - "Decky from the Japstars had the idea of enlisting The Cure’s Robert Smith for one of the rough edits. “We sent Robert an email and heard nothing for six months,” explains Decky. “Then randomly we got an email to say that it had gone into his spam folder.” Fortunately, Robert went onto the band's MySpace site, loved what he heard and said he wanted to work with the boys. The result is 'Take Forever', which, with its chiming guitar riff, low-slung bass and feint air of melancholia, is a quantum leap from anything that was on 'We Just Are'. It’s the sound of The Cure had they been born in 2006."

Eh? Random. What's up with Robert collaborating with all these new and hype electro bands...

ReplyDeletesimilar thoughts by me.
ReplyDeletewhat ever happened to that band he's in? called the cure?
but we'll seee. there's always potential for songs robert's involved with :)
ReplyDelete"Perfect Blue Sky" and "All of This" are AWESOME songs though...
ReplyDeleteIf Robert ever went the solo route I think electronica could work. His voice seems to suit it. Not In Love is so much better with his vocal on it.
ReplyDeleteagreed, "all of this" is great and "perfect blue sky" is GREAT. i also like "come to me." "not in love" wasn't my favorite though. good, but not my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI am loving Roberts guest vocals. Not In Love is one of my top tracks of the last few years. I've been waiting a long time for Robert to start doing more of these type of tracks. I've assumed we would have had a Cure album geared more "electronic". Robert definitely has the skills to produce that. I would love this a million times over, although most Cure fans heads would explode.
ReplyDeleteThank you.
ReplyDeleteWell, if everyone remembers, Robert was leaning toward electronic stuff with the band for a few years. 'Wrong Number' showed a hint of that, and 'Bloodflowers' was pretty close to becoming an electronic album until Robert changed his mind. 'Coming Up' and 'Possession' are good examples of this abandoned direction.
ReplyDeleteyeah 'Coming Up' and 'Possession' are good examples of this abandoned direction, pretty bad song though
ReplyDeleteI've actually grown to love 'Coming Up'. Not a favorite, but always happy to hear it come up on shuffle. 'Possession'? Not so much. : )
ReplyDeleteThat's funny, Possession has really grown on me much more than Coming Up. But neither can beat Spilt Milk...
