  1. I am happy this song is getting some Shine on from the critics. I have been reading some of the reviews from fellow Cure fans, and actually have been quite surprised that is not being received very well, with some saying it is terrible. What gives? This song is very good, and has only gotten better with more listens. And the one critic got it dead on, it needs to be listened to LOUD! Great song! And equally good B-side in Down Under, very dreamy.

  5. Mmmm, lots of tongue in this one! Yummy.

  6. I prefer the live version to the cd. The cd sounds almost like a different song. I'm not saying I don't like it though. It's just different. I do like Down Under a lot. It should have been an A-Side.

  7. Hi everyone....I'm just jumping in here.

Yes, lots of tongue. It made me smile. Especially at the very end.

  8. pity it's nowhere to be seen in the shops....

  9. OMFG I love this song now. It sounds so good via studio version. I can see the HOTD influence now. And HOTD is in my top three favorite Cure albums.

    Horray for Curey goodness!

  10. Wait, how can you not like this song? And for those of you who don't, care to explain why?

It's classic Cure pop-pseudo- psychedelia. And it's chock full of yummy Robert Smithness.

  11. Yes! What caterpillargirl2 said. Exactly!

  12. I love that song, but at the moment I really hate the studio record of it - it just sounds really painful to me, and I just don't want to have to hear it again. It has none of the power of the live version, and just sounds really tinny, no energy.

  13. The video link to youtube does not seem to be available anymore--it says: "This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by a third party."
Is anyone else having this problem? If so, I wonder who objected to it being posted.

  14. Keith, perhaps that because it was just released today in most countries, not counting the US, where it'll be released tomorrow?

  15. That's what I'm hoping, Shawn.

Maybe RS wants to announce it himself once the States have the single in their hands?

I dunno. At any rate, I'm glad I got a preview....

  16. Dangit! Didn't take the copyright stormtroopers long, did it?

  17. Damn. Anyone rip this video before it was taken down?

  18. somebody please upload the original file from the video? , you tube its a pooor quality
    crick crick

  19. Darell - you're right when you said the one critic got it dead on, it DOES need to be listened to LOUD. I've only heard "Down Under" once, but I like what I heard.

I enjoyed reading all three reviews and The Cure seem to be doing really well with the new singles.

I'm thinking this new album will be the greatest since Wish....although I do love the three since. I'm talking "greatest" in terms of reception from the general public. A new generation of Cure fans will be made with this one.

All of a sudden I have a need to hear "Want." (playing now)

  21. Craig - hi...I'm new here. Name is Crystal. :) Loved your site for a long time but just joined since I felt the need to start speaking up.

I tried to tell you about the video earlier. Did you get my email this morning?

  22. Hi Crystal and welcome! Yes I have your e-mail, but Viacom has removed the video from Youtube now.

  23. I adore Down Under. It has such a great feel. I love the first 2 B-sides as well, but this new one is magic. Amazon just put my SWID in the mail. Woo-hoo! Cure B-sides kick ass.

  24. Yes, I know they did. I was just trying to say that I emailed you as soon as I saw it this morning.

I was hoping you'd get to see it because you mentioned yesterday you hadn't seen it yet.

I got all excited when it was available....I had to tell somebody!

  25. Also, does anyone have the link to the video on the MTV sites?

  26. And I want to be on the record as saying Fuck Stereogum!
Just needed to say that. : )

  31. Decent reviews except Sterogum but well that was expected from them. I saw the video this morning before it got axed off of youtube. I really liked it & the B/W studio version works well for SWID! Much better then it did for FS!

OK the fangirl in me says Robert looked so sexy in it! Tongue & all!!! Mwah!!! LOL!!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Okay, I am glad there are some positive reviews of this and the other songs... but these writers cannot WRITE! WTF!

Anyway, SWID deserves abundant accolades. Once you get used to the jolting difference between the album version and the live one, it's a killer tune.

    ReplyDelete
  33. anah, i agree with your sentiments about SWID... well said! it has an hotd vibe and yet is fully fresh as well..

and DU is great too! love it! and i love AKOS and NYT! and TOO and FS!

    i'm a cure-whore and i'm proud. :-)

(PS RSX TONGUE in that vid makes my libido all squirmy)

  34. "(PS RSX TONGUE in that vid makes my libido all squirmy)"

Cat: That statement is fucking hilarious for reasons you could never guess! Thank you for a LOL moment.

  35. you must tell me, Craig...!

so I think i like this song better than FS... and that makes me sad because I love FS... I'm breaking up with FS cuz I ain't no two-timer!

  36. Modern Music has a terribly-written review. Stereogum is just lazy, though.

However, not as arguably lazy as these guys:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1wEFfrko6Y
What a bunch of scammers getting people to give them their tickets. What jerks.

  37. Cat:

How can you not cheat or at least have a ménage à trois with Cure songs...?
