podgirl: I was watching for it to happen since I expected it, so I kept my eyes on those two as soon as I saw Simon heading to center stage. It seemed to go quickly in real time, but yeah, this photo gives the impression that it lasted for a while. :D Maybe it was longer than it seemed to me.
abrashtx: Haha, maybe that's the joke - Porl and Simon want to see how many times they can get away w/ kissing without poor oblivious Robert noticing. ;)
Clockwise: I felt so special when I saw that Craig dedicated the photo to us (and Jenny & Elise). Rrrreowr!
I think your scenario is totally plausible. Remember those comments Robert posted not long ago about his crush on Jason? (He made some comment about his flirty, eyelinered eyes, or something...) ;)
I think its just a matter of Simon having something stuck in his throat and Porl was helping him get his windpipe cleared out.
Maybe they'll even announce they're getting married while out in California. We can get married in California now. The other 96% of the country...Not so much. But California & Massachusetts its all good.
What the heck!? That's kinda weird. Were they just doing it for shock value? I thought The Cure were beyond such stunts. Was it just a spur of the moment joke? Did they laugh afterward?
muldfeld: I don't think it was spur of the moment - I've seen them do it at two other shows besides this one, and read reports of it at least two others besides that. ;)
i love it when porl and simon kiss, its DAMN HOT! i rewinded why cant i be you on Show so many times.. i was pretty upset when there was no kissing or ass smacking in san jose, i was right in front of porl and i just kept hoping and hoping for a kiss!
robert thinks jason is better??!! personally, i think boris was the best drummer the cure ever had, *jabs close to me and just like heaven* JLH had the perfect rhythm - that boris drum fill inspired the instruments being introduced one at a time, and what about POY! and those are just the hits! (i.e. on the bsides: bori's drum beats in the dreamy twilight garden were just perfect for it. i think jason is fantastic, but i dont look at him as a replacement for boris, because you cant really just 'replace' such a member. i think of jason as the drummer for the new era of the cure in its final lineup
The Simon and Porl onstage kisses are legendary. I would wager they do it more than we are aware each tour. I just think it's hilarious they are still doing it. It's hot hot hot and so refreshing that they just don't give a shit.
Thanks, V, for that post by Robert flirting with Jason. I had seen it and had simply forgotten.
what the-- i'm gone for a few days to celebrate my birthday and porl is wearing stripper heels and sucking face with simon? wtf people. craig, i need text message updates. fer chrissakes...
Just got back and saw this...Yay! A picture dedicated to us fangirls! How sweet! ;)
They did this on stage in the HK show I saw last year, but Robert's big head...I mean hair got in the way, and I couldn't see it. (But I knew what's going on anyway!) Now I can see what's going on there! Finally! (Not that I've been looking for such pics.)
Honestly I don't think there's anything weird or gross about it. And I don't say this because I'm a fangirl. ;)
Junko, I've also seen the picture with Robert and Simon kissing. And I think it's a sweet picture.
Hi, Jenny! Thanks for reminding me. I completely forgot Porl & Simon was kissing on stage in HK last year. Yes, I was there. I was in the front of the stage somewhere in between Robert & simon. Where were you, Jenny?
Hi Jenny & Junko - looking forward to the Hollywood show tomorrow. We have been so spoiled with back to back shows that when there isn't a show you feel like something is missing :-(
Junko, I was at the center of first row, in front of Robert, screaming at him whenever he came forward.
Hi elise! These back-to-back shows have been sweet torture to me, as most of them happen during my office hour. I'm look forward to tonight's (Sunday morning for us) show, when I can finally laugh loudly at some of the hilarious comments. And I can't even imagine how I'm going to survive when the US tour is over. :(
Jenny (or is that Henny) - I know what you mean about it being hard to really enjoy the concerts from work. Fortunately we have a holiday here in Perth on Monday - so I get to enjoy the Hollywood and Shrine shows from home. And even better, I don't work on Wednesday's so I will be home for the San Diego show too. Life is good. I'm gonna be really sad when the tour stops. I'll miss our chats :-(
Jenny, Henny, doesn't matter! ;) (Henny is quite a special name really.)
It's great that you're having some time off the coming week. IMO these live chats are the best way to relax during holidays! As for me, I can manage it all right, unless there's some unwanted meeting to attend during the show. If the show happens near lunch break, it's even better. My boss doesn't nag me too much about my job, and that's why I can survive all those previous shows ;)
I'm really hoping they'll have another tour to support the new album. Do you think it's going to happen?
Jenny - I would love for another tour to happen, but the pessamist in me is not convinced. Maybe they will do more shows in the States and Europe, but I'd be surprised if they came back to our neck of the woods again.... I'd LOVE it..... but I would be surprised.
elise, I'm guessing they might come back to do some festival things. As the festival season is near, I'd really love to see that happen. And maybe, just maybe, there will be another tour next year. I'd say they enjoyed playing in Austrasia in 2007 - they looked quite happy on stage. If there's another tour, it is possible for them to come back. It's just a matter of time IMO. :) But please don't make us wait for another four years!
Oh no, I can't join the live chat tomorrow cuz I work on Sundays. Anyway I enjoy reading comments afterwards and get happy knowing how excited you are.
About the following concerts after the US tour... Hummm, I doubt they are gonna visit Australia & Asia again this year. What about Central & South America? Don't they have any plan for the countries in those area?
Junko, they haven't announced any plan to tour South America this year. I'm really curious about their schedule for the latter half of 2008...I mean, they must do SOMETHING after the album is released, right? Otherwise how are they going to promote the album?
And it's a pity that you can't join us tomorrow. It's the only show I can fully relax without having to check my work once in a while!
Jenny - I read or heard somewhere Robert saying they are having weird kind of promotion this time. Does it mean they are not planning for the "Dream 13 (or whatever)" Tour to fully support their new album? Are they having a long vacation after the US tour?
Anyway, enjoy the live report and chat tomorrow! I'll be joining later.
I don't think we've seen the Thirteen tour yet; I don't think this is it.
And these are the reasons why:
A) Timing. You don't go on a tour to support an album that is half a year from release. You go on those tours to shore up interest in the band and sell your back catalogue.
B) Setlists. Look at any album-support tour The Cure has ever done and you'll notice that songs from the album they're supporting dominate the setlist. Plainsong/Pictures of You/Closedown to open, The Same Deep Water as You/Prayers for Rain/Disintegration to close, et cetera.
C) Finances. It makes no financial sense to go on a tour in order to sell copies of a record that isn't out yet. The record misses the boost that a support tour gives because of how early the tour is. Robert and Geffen both know this well.
Stigmurder: There is at least one pic of a Robert + Simon kiss out there, but I was unable to find it last night. :) If I can find it, I'll post it here.
Tyler: I agree with you, on all points (including D) ). ;)
my GOD. what's that thing simon's holding? it's HUGE!
ReplyDeleteoh, wait, it's his bass...
Here we go again! : )
ReplyDeleteWoo hoo! *fans herself* I remember that moment quite well. ;) Does anyone know the story behind the "Never Enough" kiss?
ReplyDeleteI had *just* entered some test data using those two in my database at work, too. ;) Perfect timing, Craig!
And LOL MonkeyButt!!! Welcome to the gutter! :D
Must we know that kind of stuff?
ReplyDeleteI think this is a ctr-alt-del
I was at the Gorge show and a friend of mine who was also there said he saw them kissing on stage. I wonder what's up with that.
ReplyDeleteKyle: They did it at the two shows I saw in February, as well, though in Berlin it looked like they faked it. This one looks pretty real, tho. ;)
ReplyDeleteWhoever took that photo must not have been too far away from me! It looks like Robert is looking right towards where I was sitting in this pic. :)
v, i figured i was doing a pretty good job avoiding this discussion last night, but the opportunity today was too good...
ReplyDeleteTongue, or no tongue?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else think that it might be kind of strange to share a lusty kiss with your ex-wife's brother...
ReplyDeleteOr your son & daughter's uncle...
Or your sister's ex-husband...
Or niece & nephew's dad...
Or your boss(?)/best friend(?)'s brother-in-law...
Or...?
Whew!
podgirl: It happened really fast, so I doubt there was time for much tongue. Whoever got this photo was working quickly... :)
ReplyDeleteporl cradling the back of simon's head gave me the impression it may have lingered, but no matter, in my mind's eye it's a big wet snog.
ReplyDeletepodgirl: I was watching for it to happen since I expected it, so I kept my eyes on those two as soon as I saw Simon heading to center stage. It seemed to go quickly in real time, but yeah, this photo gives the impression that it lasted for a while. :D Maybe it was longer than it seemed to me.
ReplyDeleteOh, Jesus, Ms. Pussy is gonna love this! Can't wait to see the witticisms springing forth from that (deviated prevert) writer's mind! ;-)
ReplyDeleteThat is just hilarious. I know they have kissed on stage on the past, but this seems more passionate.
ReplyDeleteI'm with V, fannin' myself. If *Robert* and Simon did it, watch OUT!
And yes, I'm a deviated prevert, and damn proud! :-D
ReplyDeleteOMG, Clockwise. I have seen photos of Robert + Simon kissing, but if I saw it IRL I don't know what I'd do! Whew!!!
ReplyDeleteNot that there's anything wrong with Porl...
ReplyDelete(Now I know what Jenny & Elise must have felt like last night - being at work with all of this going on. How am I supposed to concentrate now??)
I love how Robert looks oblivious to what's going on behind him.
ReplyDeleteabrashtx: Haha, maybe that's the joke - Porl and Simon want to see how many times they can get away w/ kissing without poor oblivious Robert noticing. ;)
ReplyDeleteImagine this: A three-way kiss!
ReplyDelete*furiously fans self*
LOL, if you look closely at Jason's face, he has this sort of, "Not again!" smirk on his face.
ReplyDeleteClockwise: You're killing me! That would be too much!
ReplyDeletePoor Jason. Drummers need love, too! Maybe someday they'll let him in on the onstage lovefest. :D
Also, I love how Craig dedicated this picture to some of us. Are we the COF Kittens, or what?
ReplyDeleteCan you imagine this steamy scenario: Jason and Robert kissing while Porl and Simon kiss, then they exchange partners in a smoochy dosey-do...
ReplyDeleteClockwise: I felt so special when I saw that Craig dedicated the photo to us (and Jenny & Elise). Rrrreowr!
ReplyDeleteI think your scenario is totally plausible. Remember those comments Robert posted not long ago about his crush on Jason? (He made some comment about his flirty, eyelinered eyes, or something...) ;)
Robert made a flirtatious remark about Jason?? WHEN? WHERE?
ReplyDeleteMmmmm...Homoerotic Cure!
Have you noticed Porl's shoes?
ReplyDeletei knew he was the smallest in the band, but not to use those women shoes
I think everybody is reading too much into this.
ReplyDeleteI think its just a matter of Simon having something stuck in his throat and Porl was helping him get his windpipe cleared out.
ReplyDeleteThey're probably both sweaty and gross, too.
Clockwise: He made those comments in defense of Jason on the official site several months ago... I'll try to track em down for ya. ;)
ReplyDeletemuldfeld: I don't think it was spur of the moment - I've seen them do it at two other shows besides this one, and read reports of it at least two others besides that. ;)
ReplyDeleteClockwise: Here ya go... from COF's August '07 archive.
ReplyDelete# Robert says Jason is better than Boris...seriously, he said that here:
JASON
8/8/2007 11:19:58 AM - by CURE:ROBERT
IS THE BEST DRUMMER THE CURE HAS EVER HAD
ANYONE THAT STILL GOES ON ABOUT BORIS REALLY DOESNT GET IT
BORIS WAS WONDERFUL
JASON IS MORE THAN WONDERFUL
LISTEN TO THE SONGS
LISTEN TO HIM PLAY
WATCH HIM BAT HIS EYELINER EYES...
EYELINER?
C'MON!
HE IS PLAYING WITH US
IN LOTS OF WAYS!
I AM HAVING FUN
RSX
(I'm so glad not to be reading this thread... Oh wait! I haven't left yet!)
ReplyDeletei love it when porl and simon kiss, its DAMN HOT! i rewinded why cant i be you on Show so many times.. i was pretty upset when there was no kissing or ass smacking in san jose, i was right in front of porl and i just kept hoping and hoping for a kiss!

DJ Scribbz: I haven't seen Show, but now that I know it has more Porl on Simon action, I have to check it out!! Lol!
ReplyDeleteOoh, I found it on YouTube. The kiss is 55 seconds in!
ReplyDeleteSorry, 52 seconds, not 55. :)
ReplyDeleteCool to see this - this was not long after my very first time seeing them!
I really love it when The Cure does this sort of thing. The discussion it creates!
ReplyDeleteWas San Jose everything you wanted, Scribs? The things I'd do for a press pass....
[And am I the only one who's noticed that a guy called Frankie will be providing live coverage for Hollywood? Frankie Goes To Hollywood....]
Huh? I don't get why they kissed?
ReplyDeleteIt's a New Day in Perth and what a way to wake up :-)
ReplyDeleteCat - Love the idea of the COF Kittens
The Simon and Porl onstage kisses are legendary. I would wager they do it more than we are aware each tour. I just think it's hilarious they are still doing it. It's hot hot hot and so refreshing that they just don't give a shit.
ReplyDeleteThanks, V, for that post by Robert flirting with Jason. I had seen it and had simply forgotten.
HOMO CURE IS DA SHIT!
Muldfeld: They (Simon and Porl) kissed at the Toronto show too. They always do it during Never Enough.
ReplyDeleteI guess it would be better if they kissed during "Freakshow".
ReplyDeleteThey do it during Never Enough cuz it's never enough for them!
ReplyDeleteAlthough doing it during Freakshow would be fun too. :-)
what the-- i'm gone for a few days to celebrate my birthday and porl is wearing stripper heels and sucking face with simon? wtf people. craig, i need text message updates.
ReplyDeletefer chrissakes...
Didn't Robert say that everyone had the best time in the studio making this album? Well here's why, it was a dam Curorgy in there.
ReplyDeleteNo wonder the album was delayed so many times. Seems they were too busy getting busy.
Sofia - Happy Birthday! And if you think this is something, go read the Santa Barbara show comments. We had fun last night. : )
ReplyDeleteSofia - Hope you had a great birthday
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this picture as much as the one Robert kissing Simon. (Have you guys seen that picture?)
ReplyDeleteI remember Porl & Simon was kissing in one of the official live video but I forgot which one.
P.S.: Happy birthday, Sofia!!!
Happy Cure-ish Birthday Sofia !!!!
ReplyDeletetsk! aww...thanks you guys! i'm sorry i missed all the uh fun. haha. oooh boy.
ReplyDeletei'll be around to martyr and muse tomorrow (today?)
xo
Sofia - it was a lot of fun yesterday - can't wait to see what the Hollywood chat will deliver.
ReplyDeleteJust got back and saw this...Yay! A picture dedicated to us fangirls! How sweet! ;)

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Sofia! You don't look a day over 90. We missed you during the infamous "Hung Simon" chat!
ReplyDeleteAndrew - Curorgy - LOL.
Mmmmm....Curorgy.
Oh no, I can't join the live chat tomorrow cuz I work on Sundays. Anyway I enjoy reading comments afterwards and get happy knowing how excited you are.

ReplyDeleteCat - Welcome to your Saturday!

ReplyDeletei think simon just likes to kiss.
Sofia: I think you're right. :)
ReplyDeleteStill haven't found the Simon/Robert kiss pic, but I found another pic that may support Paul's claim? ;)
I'm envious! I would love to be on the receiving end of a kiss from Simon, Porl, Robert, Jason... I'm not picky!
ReplyDeleteOh my I would have loved to have seen this! Wonder if anyone got a photo or video of it???
ReplyDelete
