"I saw the Santa Barbara Cure show and I had the chance to meet Martin Gore of Depeche Mode after the show of all places... coming out of the bathroom. No one around me seemed to have noticed him. I figured since he lives in Santa Barbara he must have been checking out the show. He was a real pleasure to speak with."

Mie, could you tell ua a little bit more of your talking with MG please?
ReplyDeleteHe told you his thoughts about what he saw?
Once i saw a picture of The Cure with him, i don´t remember th time of that pic.
Is he a closer Cure friend ?
Maybe since The Cure did a DM cover?
I´m guessing how The Cure recorded a track for this DM tribute,i think both bands plays in the same field, so, it´s strange one band do a cover version of the other one.
Is known that RSX likes DM but i think DM members also likes CURE.
Perhaps Cure agreed to do it because DM told the band if Cure appears on the tribute cd the sales will be higher.
I´m just wonder...
Anyone have more info on that?
Unfortunately the conversation was brief due to all of the people funneling through the tunnel. (it was like a herd of cows) I basically had the chance to say hello and if he enjoyed the show. He said he did and I mentioned how I was a big DM fan and all. I wished I had more time to speak since I wanted to ask about a new DM album. Sorry I don't have much more information that that. Take care Mike (I think Craig or I accidentally typed Mie instead of Mike.
ReplyDeleteMike - yeah, your e-mail said Mie, thought it was a nickname or something. Sorry about that, fixing it now.
ReplyDeletethats sounds fantastic! its really interesting to hear that, glad that you got to meet him, at a cure concert no less
ReplyDeleteNice little bit, but Craig, why didn't you put up the blurb that I sent? :(
ReplyDeleteShawn - It was more a Morrissey item than a Cure item. But I'm saving it for an all-in-one type of Curespotting post. I've really cut back on the curepottings since moving to the blog.
ReplyDeleteBut once things slow down after the tour, I'll probably do more of them.
Cool, even though I don't like DM. But it's always nice to meet your heroes. :-)
ReplyDeleteI won't be around for the chat tonite, but ya'll have fun! I might be able to join you for the last 1/2 hour. Don't say anything I wouldn't say! :-D
PS PLAY UTS DAMMIT ROBERT!
Awww, we'll miss you Cat. Have fun. I'll try to keep the kittens out of trouble. : )
ReplyDeleteCat - You will be missed. Have a great nite.
ReplyDeletedear mad bob i guess the conection between the two bands, apart from being in the same field and time happens to be due to daryl bamonte, who was for a long time depeche´s tour manager and happens to be teddys (perry bamonte) brother.......i think....
ReplyDeleteYes, Daryl and Perry are brothers.
ReplyDeleteDaryl was also The Cure's road manager (and more) from 1995-2005.
Two really great guys. Greatly missed by many.
Thanks Craig for fixing that typing error of mine. I think these big old sausage fingers are getting in the way of my typing. ha ha. I've been a lurker on this blog since it went up and have enjoyed pretending to be part of the group. lol Anyways I look forward to participating in these amazing conversations. Missed out on the whole Simon's Power Pack convo though. lol
ReplyDeleteRrreowr! Have a nice night, Cat! :)
ReplyDeletei was hoping martin might show up at the santa barbara show... i expect that he probably hung out with the boys, and maybe robert went over to his place for a cuppa....
ReplyDeletevince clark (original dm member) said that the whole reason they started depeche was beacuse they wanted to be the cure!
and robert has long said that he is a depeche fan.
i'm surprised to see that there's cure fans who don't like depeche (perhaps they just haven't listened to them yet)... sonically they may be different, but I find so many parallels between the two... no one does dark and brooding better! check out VIOLATOR and you'll see what i mean...

ReplyDeleteWell, "Enjoy the Silece" from "Violator" does have the trademark Cure guitar / melodic bass sound...
But for "dark and brooding" I think "Songs of Faith and Devotion" would be a better pick. It is also DM´s overall best album, probably.
