Ok, IF the info on ebay is correct, this would be the release and format info for the singles:
May 13th - The Only One (mix 13) + Ny Trip (CD, 7", Digital Download)
June 13th - Single #2 (mix 13) + new b-side (CD, 7", Digital Download)
July 13th - Single #3 (mix 13) + new b-side (CD, 7", Digital Download)
August 13th - Single #4 (mix 13) + new b-side (CD, 7", Digital Download)
Also, if true, the the first single would come with a collector's box that will house all 4 of the singles. There would be a separate box for the cds and the 7" vinyl singles. If you were around for the Wish era, you'll remember that they did the same thing with the High single.
Anyway, I hope we get an official announcement soon!

On May 13th we get some new Cure, now we're talking!!!
ReplyDeleteBut it's The Only One. : )
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'm in the minority here but I actually really like the song. My only gripe is with the title change. 'The Only One' just sounds so generic. 'Please Project' was at least unique.
ReplyDeleteI really like the song too, it's really catchy. I'm not sure why there's such a backlash to it. I always enjoy the "pop" songs they do.
ReplyDeleteI like it, too. After hearing it live (real live, not YouTube live), I had it my head for days. :) But I also like the name "Please Project" better too. Oh well!
ReplyDeletePlease Project/The Only One, despite not being one of the best things that the band has done, is still better than about 90% or more of the stuff out there nowadays.
ReplyDeleteThis is quite sudden! Craig, the link to the "High" single or whatever is to a page that has next to nothing. You might want to check it. Thanks for the info.
ReplyDeletemetacritic says the new album of the cure will be released on the 3rd of June.
ReplyDeleteWhich is the truth?
http://www.metacritic.com/music/upcomingreleases.shtml
Muld - the link works for me. What are you getting?
ReplyDeleteVik - the June 3rd date is incorrect. That was an old date and has now been changed to mid-Sept.
Ryan - I think I'm the one in the minority. I hate The Only One. It's a frankenstein stitch up job of High and Mint Car. Love High, hate Mint Car.
ReplyDeleteI'll still probably buy both versions though. : )
Yeah, it ain't the most original Cure song by miles, and yet it sounds fresh in a way, maybe cuz it's a throwback to Wish/HOTD stuff, and we ain't heard music like that in a while. EOTW was more original, ultimately, as was Maybe someday. But I like the Only One anyway. I am hoping, of course, that the new album will have more than just rehash songs - I really like the direction they took with Bloodflowers and certain songs on The Cure, like Labyrinth, Lost, B43, etc.
ReplyDeletei really like the new single! But:
ReplyDeletea) i AM a teenage girl and
b) i really liked the old name (please project) better.
i am so excited for the studio quality song to come out! And to go to the US tour kickoff in fairfax, VA on May 9
i like the title 'the only one' because it reminds me of the band 'the only ones' (who, i believe, robert loves/ed too) and i'm old. and when you get into your golden years you like things that are familiar and are afraid of things that are different.
ReplyDeleteCraig, I get a page called eil.com that says "sorry the page you are looking for is no longer available." I'm sure it's no big deal, though.
ReplyDeleteWhat I'm worried about with these singles is that these are going to be hard to find. Because The Cure's not huge, it's difficult to get anything other than official albums in a timely fashion, and if you wait too long, they make you pay through the nose. I think "Join the Dots" is $103 in Toronto's HMV. I fear not being able to find this special single that's supposed to house the other singles.
I remember the morning "Trilogy" was released, HMV employees didn't know about it and didn't have it on display until the end of the day. I was more excited about buying that than my bloody graduation that same day!
where's the link to this good live version of the only one? i've only heard the very first version from oh-so-long ago...
ReplyDeletemuldfeld, Canada rips its' residents off with those high prices. Even when the exchange rate was good, it still wasn't worth trying to buy anything music-wise that wasn't in a used record store.
ReplyDeleteAgent Mulder - The singles will be available at numerous online stores. Can you not order from them? I know Ideal Copy will have them.
ReplyDeleteIf not, try to find a local indie record store and ask them to special order it for you.
Well, Monghi, the dates (13th) are a hint that it might be the double album version each with 13 songs, perhaps one "dark" disc and one "light" disc. And I bet the album will be titled... "13"!
ReplyDeleteMulder? Craigers, you cracked my code name! Mulder + Seinfeld.
ReplyDeleteI only like ordering from amazon.ca because I'm super fussy and if something's scratched or not in perfect condition, I can return or exchange it, no questions asked, instead of that "you're crazy" look I get from cashiers.
However, I DID order from Ideal Copy back in 2004 for the Japanese import of The Cure but, Canada customs slaps import duties, and the whole thing cost me at least $50. I'd rather not go through that mess again. Also, in case there are any problems, it'll be a hassle to exchange stuff because they'll make me pay for postage back even if it's refunded, etc. (sighs) The headaches of consumerism.
Speaking of the new Battlestar Galactica.... last week's episode was great; lots of stuff about democracy with our heroic president using executive authority for judicial appointments and with the religious branch of cylons seemingly wanting more democracy than the secular ones. Most politically-insightful show in US history, my babies! Tune in tomorrow night at 10 pm Eastern or borrow or rent disc 1 of Season 1 to be blown away.
Shawn -w, I've found prices in Canada to be quite good, especially on pre-order from amazon.ca. If stuff sells really well, that item's price is significantly reduced. I think the North American version of "The Cure" (2004) was only $9.99 at HMV. Also, Radiohead or The Strokes albums on sale can be bought for 2 for $25 and stuff. A new well-selling CD is as cheap nowadays as when I bought my first CD in 1993. The only problem is unpopular stuff like Mogwai, which can cost a ton. Ouch!
ReplyDeleteMonghi: You're right. I'd prefer the album release on May 13th and forget about the singles...
ReplyDeletePerhaps they'll re-release "the 13th" as a single or put it on the album. ;-)
It sure would! Worst song ever.
ReplyDeletethe 13th is an incredible tune! you are all crazy!...
ReplyDeletelabrynth is in a dead heat with gone for the cure's "revolution number 9"
wuhaa!yipieeeeehh!yes!there it goes....
ReplyDeleteWhile I'm not a fan of "The 13th", I've always respected its texture and complexity and for Robert really trying new things with his vocals. In fact the entire album has great vocal performances.
ReplyDeleteIt's better than "Never", you gotta admit.
4:13
ReplyDeleteFour singles, on the 13th.
And the album being the 13th, released on the 13th.
symbol star is home.
