The Twilight Sad thank The Cure

From The Twilight Sad's website:

Hi everyone,

It's been over a week since we played the last gig of the North American tour with The Cure. I've now had some time to let the experience sink in a bit (I don't think it ever truly will tbh) and wanted to write a quick message of thanks. I'll try to keep it brief as I could write for days about how great an experience it was. Here goes.......

First of all I don't think we could say "Thank You" enough to The Cure for the opportunity. We were treated so well by the band and their crew. Their words of encouragement and faith in what we do by giving us the opportunity to play these prestigious gigs is something that we'll never forget or take for granted. The whole experience was inspiring. Each night once we packed up after our set and took five minutes to relax I headed out to watch The Cure's show. They played a different set every night and this in turn (plus some inspiring words from Robert) encouraged us to do the same.

I want to thank our crew: Chris, Andy, JP, Ray and our driver V. Without these amazing people we cannot do what we do.

Being able to share this experience with our friends, family and people who have helped/supported the band over the years was a wonderful thing.

To all the people that were introduced to our music I thank you for all the nice messages you sent and that I'd see after our set or wake up to in the morning. We met so many good people and many new friendships were made over the past 8 weeks.

Having Simon wear our t shirt and Robert's kind words about our band before dedicating "A Forest" to us on the last night was the icing on the cake of what was a great tour.

All the best to you and yours

Cheers

James

p.s Lets do it all again in Europe.

  1. This band was great. Very inspirational I. Regards to the amount of gratitude they had for everything, from the opportunity they had with the cure and the fans...
In fact I had flip flopped in writing my own thoughts, just because I feel like it's pointless and I enjoy reading everyone else's thoughts... But I'm caving in...
I was so thrilled to hear the band was going on tour... And because I had prior obligations and just life in general I felt like I couldn't indulge like I wanted to... More than I ever wanted to... I grew up listening to this band. Years ago there was this offer through the mail where you buy one cd and you get 8 for free... I was looking through the catalogue and really liked the art work for the wish album. I was 14. At first I didn't understand the music but not long after that, they became my favourite band... I became obsessed with them... When I was 17 I found out they were touring and that was the beginning of a long love affair for this band.... Every time they toured, I went to as many shows as I could... Throughout that time there was drama in the cure community, amoungst fans and even the band.... And then my life changed... My love affair subsided, and they still were on a pedistal in my eyes, but my passion went down different avenues and I locked those memories away... I'll never forget how much it meant to me, even though it wasn't personal, I had a turning point in my life where you wake up lost and alone... And before my eyes was roger o donnell in real life... And another time years later, he was there..., my point is, all these people who I've read had been cure fans for decades, it's amazing... We all have memories, we all have some emotion attached to this band, their music, the other fans.... It's like a family... There may have been good times, bad times, times we forget and go back to our own lives.., but this band has been around for so long, there is a community that has developed and as a whole, to be a cure fan is an amazing gift... Every opportunity I have to see them will be cherished... And those memories, the pictures, the music and fans will always be treasured in my soul. Thank you to everyone as well as the creators of the music that touches so many souls...

  2. Beautifully written, I enjoyed reading your thoughts (not at all "pointless"). The Twilight Sad also spoke straight from the heart- very straightforward and touching. Thanks for expressing your feelings about the band in such a poignant way. I have some of the same feelings myself. Indeed, we can sometimes inadvertently go astray, drifting away from the band for a bit, but inevitably, the attraction is too irresistible, the gravitation pull too strong - we eventually succumb to being "moths to a flame". It is virtually impossible to completely forget about the band and move on. They are too deeply ingrained in our hearts and minds, and once a fan reaches that certain realm of fanaticism (for lack of better word), there is no turning back; indeed, they have reached the "point of no return." They have been completely devoured by RS and company, consumed by the band's thousand million shivering furry holes. At that point a certain synergy is reached, fan and band merge together as separate parts becoming a single whole (or a single shivering furry "hole"?).
And the fan/band is always hungry (for more).....

    1. Woah.... Ur imagery is something I use to imagine and actually write myself.... You made me thirsty for me. Thankyou for your amazing input. And this is why... I adore the whole curingdom ( hehe. Cure+kingdom) amazing. Your words and imagery were beautiful. Thanks

    2. "You made me thirsty for me" - LOL. That sounds like it could potentially be a Cure lyric. I also enjoy being a part of the Curingdom (Curedom?). I did not mean to change the focus either, the praise for TTS is well-deserved. A few of the points you made struck a chord in me, I could not help but latch onto it and probably got a little carried away....LOL.

    3. U didn't get carried away... I guess some sites are designed a certain way and sometimes things just get thrown into another area and that is what happened with my post... I am happy you can relate... It makes me happy to know someone took the time, enjoyed and connected to my thoughts... I enjoyed reading your reaction. Xo.

  7. I didn't mean to change the focus and by far the most gracious band I've seen in a long time ( twilight sad). I enjoyed their performance a lot as well...
