  1. The New Orleans shows sound intimate-ish. The Hollywood Bowl capacity is 17,500 and the Forum is 17,505.

    1. I had no idea Hollywood bowl was so large! I chose that venue this year because I thought it was smaller.

Well regardless it is worth the 6 hour drive to have something better than Shoerline in San Jose...although I'll be there on Thursday night as well.

    2. At least it isn't 1989. Dodger Stadium capacity is 56,000. :P

    3. lol. Dodger stadium (cure concert 1989). Atmosphere was intense but i remember the sound system sucked lol

    4. i remember that too! they were woefully under- produced for the size of the stadium...ps: the 56k capacity is just the perm seats. it doesnt include the temp seats on the field.

    5. I'm going to see them at the Manchester Arena in the UK and the capacity is 20,000, I think I would much prefer to see them in a more intimate venue, however, it's still the cure!!! :D

    6. The best Cure gigs are at the Albert Hall. It's a really tight venue with great sound.
A(Although not as tight as seeing them at the Town&Country2 in 1991!)

  2. Hollywood bowl is my favorite venue for any show it feels a lot smaller than it actually is. I'll be there all 3 nights. The sound at dodger Stadium was pretty good from row 5.

  4. Let's not forget the Pixies and Love and Rockets at Dodger Stadium supporting The Cure! Sounded fine in the third row but I can imagine how terrible it could have been up high

  5. I loved New Orleans. I would go to all shows if I could, but I have to wait until Chicago.I still am grateful I get to see them at all.

  7. Not to boast or nothing lol but I saw them at San Francisco's Fillmore, capacity 1,200 doing a small stint plugging Bloodflowers. When they do Vegas, which I've been to twice for the Cure they play in small state of the art venues. The Chelsea's capacity is 3,200. Yet a week after tickets go on sale you can still score floor tickets. I don't know why, something to do with Vegas I guess. Also saw the Cure for their trilogy show at Hollywood's Pantages capacity 2,700 and their impromptu stop at Hollywood's Palladium during 4:13 tour, capacity 4,000. Just sayin' is all lol

    1. I tried SO hard to get Fillmore tickets that year! Instead I sat out front begging everyone that passed me for tickets for sale.

    2. I won tickets off live 105 that year. The Cure at the Fillmore... It was Amazing! And a dark show. Short but emotional

  12. Thought for sure we would see more shows in this week's listing. Surely the 3 sold out Bowl shows ranked pretty high in sales! Maybe next week!

  14. Looking at the Atlanta show, while it is not sold out the only seats left are lawn seats and that is a huge lawn area

  15. WOW...It looks like even 1 show at the Hollywood Bowl blew all others out of the water as far as gross sales - and by a very large margin. The band really rolled in the dough in LA. Amazing it grossed close to an eye-popping $5 million over all 3 days. Since the gross sales were the same each day, it looks like every single ticket was sold. Based on these sales figures alone, the mental math should be very easy the next time the Cure decides to return - they should only do an extended tour in LA, since they can still make as much at one location as they do at several other venues combined! No need to waste time on logistics and traveling to all these other small venues...right? Since the LA fanbase has really helped boost up sales, maybe the band should consider rewarding its loyal fans here with more b-sides and rarities the next time around....HAHAHAHA....

    1. Oops, I meant $4.2 or $4.3 million. I rounded up a little bit too much. I'd originally wanted to say $4.5 million, but that seemed awkward so I rounded it up to $5 million which is way off. LOL.

    1. Well if they have a lot of money they deserve it. But it cost a lot to make a tour like this.

    2. Well Brit magazine Q released the 100 wealthiest Brit musicians sometime around the time the self titled album came out and of course Robert was in there....it mentioned he gets a way higher royalty rate than is the norm in the music industry...but this info is no longer up to date so considering reissues and the several tours since then..a conservative guess would be he's worth $20 million???? Plenty of money to get that hair in better shape Robert...Don't you know I love you so?💞. I must admit it was obvious you cut it back quite a bit...thank you!!!

  18. I'd like to see the true attendance figures, not how many tickets were sold. There were still plenty of tickets showing available on Stubhub and other sites during the shows and after.

    1. In this case really who cares because if ticket scalpers bought tickets and didn't sell them all...it's their loss...ultimately a dollar paid is a dollar made...obviously you wouldn't want to film a show at a gig which is Sold Out and it turns out 5% or more of the audience is not there bcs you'd be able to tell...this would be noticeable

  20. These numbers represent ticket sales....the band dont get this amount of cash. The promoter does, from which the band get their fee

  22. How many sold out shows put of the 33 played ? I'd say 26 ?

    ReplyDelete
  23. Looks like the show at the Centre Bell did sell out after all!
When i was entering, the arena boards still said (in French) that tickets were available.
they must've been for the nosebleeds then. cause that place was PACKED.

    1. Have to agree as the Bell Centre is the largest NHL arena seating 21,000+ and I think 15,000 for concerts and this place was easily well over the 10,000-11,000 they claim. Packed throughout and even in the 3rd deck. Very impressed by their draw after all these years.

  24. The MSG attendance numbers seem low given they were sellouts. I thought MSG could hold 18-20K for a concert? 38,697 total translates to about 12,900 per night. Was there a special seating configuring for the concerts at MSG?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. MSG looked packed to me but I was surprised the arena floor was seated. Perhaps that's the 18k configuration.

      Delete
    2. no - those numbers are correct. 18-20k is only achieved through theater in the round staging or through full GA floors. the sheer number of sections blocked off, is not recouped by seating on the floor.

  25. The band receive a fee on the sales or they are paid by the promoter? How does it works? Just curious...

    ReplyDelete
  26. the band charge the promoter a fee per show. they also take a large percentage of the merch gross. the promoter covers the cost of venue, logistics, promos, adverts...

    ReplyDelete
  27. These gross sales figures might be a bit misleading. After factoring in payments to the promoter and/or the myriad of other entities involved in a large world tour (crew members and other staff, travel costs, tour buses/drivers, production costs, etc.), the amount each band member makes probably represents only a small percentage of the gross sales. I've always been fascinated by the economics of touring, but there appear to be no definitive answers. There's an interesting discussion on reddit about how much an artist makes per concert, but I'm not sure how accurate it is:

    1. there's nothing misleading...they're gross figures. you know? not net figures. gross figures.

      Delete
    2. You're right, there is nothing misleading about the numbers in and of themselves. But it's easy to fall into the trap of misinterpreting the gross figures as being close to the net. It is when one makes the assumption that these figures closely approximate what the band is actually pulling in that it becomes problematic.

      Delete
    3. Why would you make the assumption that the gross and net are a close approximation? No one here is their tour accountant. There is no trap. Gross numers are published. Net numbers are not.

      Delete
  28. I'm not making any such assumption...just saying it's easy to misinterpret these figures, as indicated by some of the earlier comments here, and some on Twitter (a lot of fans assume the band is raking in a huge amount of dough based solely on these figures alone, but they don't necessarily tell the whole story).
Somebody really needs to calm down and take a chill pill...LOL.

  30. Does the band get at least 25% of total sales? I mean also of merch sales as well which I know are not included above???
