Yeah, they could have chosen the bdc 'club' mix. A bit pricey as the rest of the tracklist doesn' interest me. Will be nice to hear this remix with this quality though. When they release Mixed Up II, it would be nice to have a microsite offering all the old rare remixes yet unavailable on cd. Can't wait.
Isn't a deluxe edition of "Mixed up" next up in the line, anyway (whatever that means in terms of release date, 2024?)? So I'd go for a nice multi-CD set with loads of linernotes and pics instead of a microsite (and talking about that, the one for Disintegration back then would've been a much better choice for CD3 in the deluxe set)
Indeed Mixed Up II is supposed to happen, so I hope for 2015 to be a Cure year and hear that soon.
I hope it has no liner notes nor pictures! I hate that! it makes it look like 'made by the record company', you know, text of gloryfication of the band and all that...
the design of the Deluxe editions are so poor to me.
I'd prefer a really good artwork cd, and separately a good microsite with really good long in depths informations and interveiews and loads of pictures.
So you prefer a microsite to a deluxe edition compiled and remastered by Robert himself with epic linernotes (largely based on his memories and impressions), background information and rare pictures, because the latter looks like "made by the record company" to you? Alright
Well, it's nice to read the informations, but sometimes i find Johnny Black annoying. And on the booklet, he text is only three small pages, and the design is really poor.
The microsite can have really longer text and informations and memories (so it's better, right?), many more large pictures (isn't that better too?), and plenty of bonus tracks and even videos (better than a booklet, isn't it?).
So yeah i prefer the Disintegraton microsite (2cd worth of tracks, plenty of pics, video clips, many big pics, lyrics....) or Roger memories of the making of Disintegration than the booklet that looks like made by a 1st year graphic design student.
As for the remastering by Robert himself, well, he ruined Entreat Plus.
Volume 8 contains the extended version of "why can't I be you?" Volume 4 the extended version of "close to me" and Volume 3 the extended version of "let's go to bed".
If you are looking for "boys don't cry" search for 'Retro Active - Volume 1'. Volume 4 contains the extended version of "in between days" (bad quality) and on Volume 6 you'll find the exetended version of "The lovecats".
I have both of them. The sound quality of the extended Boys don't cry and The lovecats is really great but the extended In between days is very dynamic compressed.
One thing I really liked about the Cure was they were never into the Best releases and extended draining of old songs to the last drop of fame and money...well...things now are seemingly moving into a different direction ...I feel kinda sorry for the guys...I understand that ...reissues, remixes, "we live in the material world"-stuff, but anyway...it's getting boring...already...
Now, sure as the sun will cross the sky This lie is over Lost, like the tears that used to tide me over
(Only time will tell) One thing is sure That time will tell (Only time will tell) If you were wrong The brightest ring around the moon Will darken when I die
I really don't understand the idea "their next surely will be their last". I mean the guys are not freaking Pink Floyd ...Rob Smith is not Phil Collins...it's kinda too early for them to retire. I think they've been hiding in the ditch, hoping for the bad times for musicians worldwide to pass. Financially, there's no reason to put out an album, that will be downloaded in 30 seconds royalties free. Now, it seems there's a turning of the tide - with all this vinyl thing and deluxe cds. I really thing that they'll be putting out more records, just like in the old days. Because relevancy needs to be nurtured, not only with nostalgia Christmas gigs...I adore the Cure. Hope to get old with them...healthy! cheers
I'd like them to release something on a par with Disintegration, then quit to be honest.
I, personally, see no reason for them to exist in name forever, 'just in case'. The Cure's body of work stands for itself, I don't know what there is to be gained by continuing to dilute the cordial.
I'd honestly take no more Cure albums over 4:14 masquerading as being something it isn't.
Yeah, quite a few years since Disintegration now. Maybe the £ outlay so far hasn't made a return. I have no idea of sales figures. I recall Roger saying he told RS the Trilogy dvd would be a financial disaster and I'm sure he said he was right about it.
They are sadly a cult band again, so you wonder how profitable any new product is for them. I was sad that they basically stopped making promo videos for singles after Just Say Yes. I don't count the 4:13 stuff.
If that is the situation, why not just go digital? Robert, why don't you share your thoughts? Please....
"I just started a thing called High Hat with Gary Husband on keyboards, Jason Cooper from the Cure on drums, Tony Grey on bass, and a trumpet player named Ian Smith, who has the Miles thing and also sounds like he is playing through a ring modulator—but does it with his lip. Right now we are just improvising for four or five hours at a time trying to get the internal vocabulary developed"
Does that mean Robert is on his own mastering some 4:14 Dreams or live dvd or something?
I DID notice that ; ) My thoughts were, I hoped it would make Robert think "Oh, perhaps WE should work on some things too" as Reeves and Jason are developing this deeper musical connection, could mean good, creative angles for Cure material, or one could hope.

Not that i'm aware of. What are we missing? primary 12", just one kiss 12", in between days 12", hey you 7", a japanese dream 12", high trip mix, open fix mix...
I used to have High (Trip Mix) and Open (Fix Mix) in a slipcase cd (sold all my Cure rarities way back), I believe I bought it as an American import to the UK - a limited release I assume, it definitely wasn't a promo.
thank you Fabien. yes High(trip mix) and open (fix mix) exists on cd. there is boys don't cry club mix too never released on cd to my knowledge and ???
never seen the trip mix and fix mix on cd, it's not yet listed on thecurerecords apparently.
El Mobbo, andreas wrote bdc 12" club mix is on 'Retro Active - Volume 1'.
Crimson, how stupid is that to sell all your cure rarities way back - and surely regretting it today? (hum... i know it's stupid 'cause i did it too... :)
Ha ha, honestly it wasn't and isn't an issue to sell them. They were genuinely sitting doing nothing for years, I gained nothing by keeping them so they went and someone else is their custodian now :)
'SoEighties', although this mix is actually from 1990, so...
ReplyDeleteJust saying! ;)

I have all of them on vinyl, as well as the 12" versions of 'Primary', 'Just One Kiss', and 'Hey You!'.
Delete...oh, and also the 12" version of 'A Japanese Dream'!
Deleteoh, thanks for these informations andreas.
ReplyDeleteAlways prefered this version to any other (including the album version), although "Pictures..." isn't anywhere near being a favourite to me.
ReplyDeleteOne thing I really liked about the Cure was they were never into the Best releases and extended draining of old songs to the last drop of fame and money...well...things now are seemingly moving into a different direction ...I feel kinda sorry for the guys...I understand that ...reissues, remixes, "we live in the material world"-stuff, but anyway...it's getting boring...already...
ReplyDeleteFirst time on cd? Are we sure about that? Was not a b side somewhere?
ReplyDeleteThere is a bootleg "album" out there called Mixes and Remixes (For DJ promo only).
DeleteIt says that most of the extended versions (not dub mixes) originally came from 12 inch versions of singles, or the cassette version of mixed up.
Its one of my favourite unofficial albums.
So when they say first time on CD, I think they really mean CD.
Are we ever going to get new Cure music? It's been 6 years since the last album. I'm depressed.

The good news is that the 4:14 no-show in 2014 hopefully means it's canned. I'd rather wait another year for a real new album.
DeleteThe next one will surely be the last, so they may as well make it count...

DeleteI'm still waiting for the rest of the remasters. It's not like Robert hasn't had a wealth of free time on his hands.

I don't know if we really need remasters beyond Wish. But I do hope they would do that one.
DeleteI've got it! New album recorded by current line up - with 4:14 as extra on the deluxe. Hooray!

Into the trash it goes.
