Sweet.... maybe Summer Cure is doing all N. American festivals this year?? I love that New Order is playing second fiddle not only to The Cure, but also to Muford & Sons and Phoenix. I guess that makes 'em 4th fiddle. Ha.
ReplyDeleteToo right!
DeleteI saw them at Roseland last NOV. Was not impressed.
new order will probably play before the cure. 2nd line will most likely mean that they are sub headliners on one of the 3 days or headline the side stage.
ReplyDeleteso happy about this!!!
ReplyDeleteWoot! Explosions in the Sky are also awesome and one of Robert's favourite bands.
ReplyDeleteYay!
ReplyDeleteNew Order should have passed rather than take fourth billing. That's an embarrassment.
ReplyDeletethey are second billed on the poster.
Delete3 days, 3 headliners, 3 subs. they are a sub headliner...not a bad spot for a band with no new music to push and who've not played many shows in north america in the past 17 years.
As exciting as it is that they're coming to our shores, I really hope more dates are planned besides just festival dates...but seems unlikely...
ReplyDeleteWhat will need to happen for a full-blown tour? A new album?
The 4Tour was "supposed" to be their last full-blown tour.
Deleteevery tour was supposed to be their last tour.

ReplyDeletethe cure & New order together - can't get much better. though wish n.o. would shake up their set-list, which has more less the same for 20 years.
ReplyDeleteReally hope they make a pit stop in Detroit.. unlikely as it is.
ReplyDeleteIf they are going to play more North American dates, they might not all be festivals. That being said, the Outside Lands Festival in the SF Bay area is the following week.
ReplyDeletei hope not with reeves on guitar!
ReplyDeleteReeves is officially a Cure now, so, yes, he's on guitar.
DeleteEric, is that you?
Deletereeves makes a huge difference - rome was way better than betival for having his guitar.
Deletebut i dont go to that show! thank
ReplyDeleteWhat other festivals besides Lollapalooza are taking place around early August in North America?
ReplyDeleteThe only other US festivals around this time would be Outside Lands in San Francisco on Aug. 9th.
DeleteThe weekend before, there's Gathering of the Vibes in Connecticut on July 25th, but I'm not sure they would fit in there?
If we look at late August, there's FYF Fest in Los Angeles on Aug. 24th, and Bumbershoot in Seattle on Aug. 31st.
Don't know how realistic any of those would be, though.
I should say the only other festivals that they would be likely to play. Many other festivals around this time, but probably not right for The Cure. Gathering of the Juggalos, for instance. :)
DeleteAlso, the "more to come" might not mean just the US. Jenny on Twitter told me that there are rumors of The Cure playing China in July on some Chinese forums, and a promoter in Indonesia said The Cure would be playing there, too.
DeleteI've also heard Slendour in the Grass in Australia mentioned a few times.
Obviously no confirmation on any of those, but now that we know there are more shows to come, expect to hear rumors of them playing everywhere.
And lets hope that not all of the shows will be festivals.
Craig. It's Splendour in the Grass FYI.. :)
DeleteI for one hope that murmur is true!
Thanks Craig! I didn't expect such a thorough reply :)
DeleteI don't see them doing a non-festival concert unless it's one of those "secret" club concerts. At least not in North America.
i can't see them coming over for just 2 festival shows.
Deletethey'll throw in some shows in major markets throughout august.
they just better make one of them toronto!
Have they said they were only playing festivals?

ReplyDeleteI really hope the rumors for SITG finally come to something this year
ReplyDeletewell, I don't want to complain too much.... but unfortunately I cannot go and my other fave DM is only playing Eastern Canada this fall.. 0/2 ...hahaha..prays for more dates on either account :)
ReplyDeleteHello, Craig!
ReplyDeleteI posted on my facebook a photo of the entrance to the show at Morumbi, São Paulo, Brazil - Follows: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10200235829752870&set=a.2169617154419.121059.1066436924&type=1&theater

see you in montreal!
ReplyDeleteIndeed! :-)
DeleteCraig, any word on the possibility of being the 3rd headliner for the Voodoo Fest this year?
ReplyDeleteonly 2 hours :(
ReplyDeleteand they will clash with beach house which i'm not happy at all.
ReplyDeleteJust about 2 weeks to go... I'm quite excited!
