"The Cure have been re-issuing re-mastered versions of their early albums since 2003, with 1992's 'Wish' (the album that carries the single 'Friday I'm In Love') scheduled for the 'deluxe re-release' treatment in 2012....The band are currently working on a new studio album"
Hope this is accurate, and part of what Robert was alluding to as "STUFF BUBBLING AWAY IN THE BASEMENT".
Update (12-15): Have been told that this news was provided to Talenthouse by an official band source. (Thanks Joerg)
I hope this is true...I need a Christmas present...
ReplyDeleteSquee?
ReplyDeleteomg.. Lost Wishes finally? I can't believe this remastering project has lasted the better part of EIGHT YEARS now. CD's will be dead by the time they get up to Bloodflowers.
ReplyDeletehope this is true!
ReplyDeleteI been waiting for this one most of all! I wonder if they will have that version of "The Big Hand" that is at the end of "Picture Show", or The complete studio version of "Tape"?
ReplyDelete@ halo eighteen...
ReplyDeleteYes, it is a little ridiculous it's taken this long. And 'Wish' will probably be the last one remastered.
But, Wish remasters, new album + tour, and possibly the next trilogy shows in 2012... Shaping up to be a great Cure year!
Oh Craig! Just as I was about to turn in for the night you spring this on us!!
ReplyDeleteActually.. all the more reason to go to bed.. Awesome news in the morning!!
Here's hoping there is some truth to this tidbit of information.. If it turns out to be something I feel it could be the beginning of a new Cure hysteria haha!!!
One can WISH ;)
'Night all!
What about the next 'Mixed Up'?
ReplyDeletewas the first one not mixed up enough.
ReplyDeletewas the first one not mixed up enough.
ReplyDeleteOoops. GOT A BIT MIXED UP THERE
ReplyDeleteI thought Mixed Up II was in the can a couple years back. Still waiting.... some of the material that didn't make the final cut is around.
ReplyDeletemaybe porl come back to the band ?

ReplyDeleteI'm hoping for the slow version of "Cut".
ReplyDeleteI'd be interested in listening to Wendy Time with the extra lyrics that were on the album sleeve. Other instrumentals???
ReplyDeleteone of the few vinyl cure albums i need!!!
ReplyDeletesweet. would love to hear the original slow/sad versions of tracks like wendy time and cut which have only ever been heard from their secret T&C show from '91.
ReplyDeleteWhen the Cure says something is coming out next year does anybody else here '5 years from now'??
ReplyDeleteso wish deluxe in 2014 then?
ReplyDeletewill be nice to have lost wishes on cd as opposed to just dl'd mp3s. hopefully a LOT of the other instrumentals from those sessions will make the 'cut.' ha! see what i did there?
ReplyDeleteyeah but what I'm saying is they keep saying stuff is going to happen that doesn't happen, like 50times now.
ReplyDelete@Paul K
ReplyDeleteagreeed. but it doesn't even both me anymore, i just kind of assume nothing new is happening until it does.
"Wish" remaster - now we're talking :)
ReplyDeleteAs mentioned by Thirdbunk, "Lost Wishes" should be a treat in proper audio, rather than the cassette rip that has been doing the rounds on the net.
Will be curious to see what else pops up from this period also. I guess no need for live content as "Show" and "Paris" serves that purpose...
And will be a treat to hear the album proper with a nice remaster - should give Simon's bass and Boris' kick drum a nice lift in the mix.
Great album!!!
We've been waiting a long time for this one! I hope this report is true, but I think it is going to take official word from the band themselves for me to believe it. :)
ReplyDeleteYeah, and please with the lost wishes instrumentals.
ReplyDeleteAnd i agree with Carnage Visors, the Big Hand Version of picture show is one of the best the cure ever done. Brillant! And i am still waiting.
Love and merry christmas.

ReplyDeleteThe bonus disc of the Deluxe editions contain only four new tracks. So if they put the 'lost wishes' instrumentals, that i suppose most of us know, it means that we won't have any other 'previously unreleased' tracks. So let's hope they create a special web page like they did for disintegration.
ReplyDeleteCommentary:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.dailycampus.com/focus/album-after-reunion-is-less-than-expected-1.2729545#.TuC8LUrj6JI
I hope they do a nice vinyl package like Disintegration.
ReplyDeleteWish is the one I've been waiting for too. I hope it really does come out in 2012... And it would be nice if it was early in the year. I'd say I can't wait, but I have been....such a long time.... I'm as excited as ever though.
ReplyDeleteI'm so looking forward to listening to Bestival (got it for Christmas, if I'm good)
ReplyDeleteKate - really dumb commentary, unfortunately...
ReplyDeletethey could include nice mixes of those '91 T&C versions
ReplyDeleteThat would be nice the B G! And a good mix of A Letter to Elise, from Unplugged!
ReplyDeletesorry Robert, think it needs to be a triple again
ReplyDeleteIf they ever do a Mixed Up 2, I would like the original 12inch extended mixes from the 80's including Just One Kiss, Primary, Lets Go To Bed, Close to me, Inbetween Days, Boys Dont Cry, A Japanese Dream... did I leave something out? I have these all on records, but I want cds of them.
ReplyDeleteif you all remember it was originally scheduled fr release in 2008'( check out the 4tour ad) so if it comes out 2012 .. its its due 4 yrs late :) boud to happen :)
ReplyDeleteI have to say (somewhat off topic) that I have been pretty unimpressed with the deluxe editions so far.
ReplyDeleteThe remastering has been flawed (Shake Dog Shake, World War), incidental, non existent (Killing an Arab) or awful (Entreat).
The quality of the "rarities" has been worse than I expected and Robert's choices (such that he has had them) have been quizzical at times.
Plus an overall dearth of "new" songs. Most of what has been presented as new has just been a embryonic version of something else or little more than a rough sketch. Play with Me being a notable exception.
The Join the Dots box set really has held up as the best of the lot, with some really interesting content. Other than that there hasn't been much that I just had to have, although it has been nice to get so much stuff that I had only on vinal on CD.
Still hoping that maybe Robert is holding certain things back to keep options available for the long term future a la the way Hendrix's output is being handled now, which I like.
Well have to wait and see, but I am running out of time and aren't really holding my breath.
Here is hoping I am wrong.
@namepa and how about those suspicious tracks that pretend to be old but clearly have new-ish vocals? like the whole second disc on the glove reissue and several tracks on the other releases.
ReplyDeleteThis comment has been removed by the author.
ReplyDeleteAnother 3CD set would be nice... Disc 2 could have Lost Wishes, the demos that have circulated for years (Old England, Sllvy and Heart Attack), Big Hand from Picture Show and the three or four remaining tracks from the album sessions. It'll surely have home demos but hopefully not too much live stuff, because as pointed out above, there were two live albums from the Wish shows (T&C II Wish tracks are acceptable)!
ReplyDeleteA treat for disc 3 would be the complete MTV Unplugged show.
I'm still hoping that the 3rd disc for the Kiss Me 3 remaster will see the light of day; there are a few remaining unreleased songs from those sessions as well. Could that be the iTunes exclusive Robert mentioned?
...still sad that RS has been thinking of shelving the 4:13 dark album. I hope he changes his mind!
What else are we waiting for, which RS has promised? BBC box, DVD box, now Reflections DVD, Paris 2008 DVD (is this a necessary release?), Mixed Up II...
not my fave era, but hence I will buy it for the extras ...the extras we wish for :)
ReplyDeleteLindsey, give it a rest. How do those vocals sound new? Listen to the way that Robert sang back around '82-'84, then listen to how he sounded when the 'Blue Sunshine' remaster was released, and then listen to how he sounds now. There really isn't much of a difference. Robert has kept his voice intact, unlike Siouxsie, who has very noticeably lost the high end of her vocal range.
ReplyDeleteThey have had 33 demos... They have recorded 25 songs in the studio (if my memory serves me well)... 12 songs released on album plus 6 on the singles' B-sides... and 4 instrumentals on Lost wishes. ('Tape' was recorded later... am I right?) So, there are 3 unreleased songs from the studio recording sessions and 6 unknown demos (plus 'Old England' and 'Heart attack')
ReplyDeleteWe are interested in the full length version of the instrumental 'The big hand' and we would like to hear the instrumental version of 'A foolish arrangement' (without overdubs).
I beleive in a digital download site with Wish bonus materials, too.
The Three imaginary boys deluxe edition contains more than 4 'new songs'...
@ Carnage Visors
ReplyDeleteA few 12" remixes have been released on Compilation CDs... for example Let's go to bed (extended), The lovecats (extended), In between days (extended), Close to me (extended) and Boys don't cry (extended new voice new mix). But I would be happy if their remixes available on CD.
@ Adam Kray
ReplyDeleteThere is only 1 unreleased song from the KMKMKM studio recording session (Eyemou). They have recorded 25 songs... but there are a lot of unknown studio and home demos.
I think there will be a next 'Trilogy' show and they will play the whole KMKMKM album and the DVD of this show will contain the video of 'Eyemou' as an extra content. :-)
I think the next Cure album won't be the 'dark album'. It will be released as the 2nd disc of 4:13 Dream in 2023 :-D or it will be the last Cure album with those original songs... but they will have a lot of overdubs or they will be re-recorded.
i would give my left arm for a studio version of 'eyemou' it was my first cure live memory with all eyes & mouths over the screen .still is one of my favorite intros ever . so sad it wasn't on the kmkmkm . . there are of course some good live recordings, but a clean studio version would be excellent !
ReplyDeleteit would be nice to have the concerts intros on videos!
ReplyDelete@TheCureCollector,
about the new songs, indeed TIB is an exception (the songs are shorts, so that give plenty of space on the disc, and they had a big old repertoire back then), but the usual is 4, Faith, Porno, Top, Head, Disintegration. There's none on 17S and KMKMKM (and we didn't have a webpage made for extras though there is some material for that one).
Robert does it his way, at his own pace, I hope that all other unrelased demos and 12" mixes and rare versions and so on, will be made available online when he decides to stop the band... but I'm happy if I have to wait 10 more years and a few other new records and tours.
"A treat for disc 3 would be the complete MTV Unplugged show."
ReplyDeleteThis would make me so happy!!!!!!
We need to see this reissue soon. The Cure in 1991/1992 were at their absolute peak. I hope that all studio content from 1991 is included where Wish (which is still one of their best albums) was even better. The 1991 instrumental of The Big Hand blows the b-side version away and the 1991 studio demo of Wendy Time is incredible.
ReplyDeleteThis was the very best band by far (Boris, Porl, Simon, Robert).
^^ And let's not forget Teddy with his wonderous two - digit keyboard playing! (See Show's version of FTEOTDGS..)
ReplyDeleteYES Notherbob! Haha! I think that version of the song is the absolute best. Porl's solo was amazing...and the mood was certainly caught.
ReplyDelete^^Agreed..
ReplyDeleteIn regards to the content of the remasters.. whatever they decide I hope it's soon because this is one I've waiting for a VERY long time for..
@Shawn - i have no issue with how robert's voice sounds. it's just the principle.. market things for what they are
ReplyDelete(i'll stop now before i get carried away :) )
You are all nice dreamers!
ReplyDelete"If they ever do a Mixed Up 2, I would like the original 12inch extended mixes from the 80's including Just One Kiss, Primary, Lets Go To Bed, Close to me, Inbetween Days, Boys Dont Cry, A Japanese Dream... did I leave something out? I have these all on records, but I want cds of them."
ReplyDelete@Carnage Visors: Yes, and that's what Mixed Up 1 promised to be but didn't fully deliver on. Just One Kiss 12" version is amazing.
I still have my official cassette of Lost Wishes that I mail ordered for in probably 1995.
ReplyDeleteIs there a list anywhere of all their unreleased stuff? Can somebody point me to mp3s of Old England, Heart Attack, etc.? Drives my poor soul crazy thinking of all the stuff they have recorded but not released, including full albums.
@ Christian Z
ReplyDeleteYou should see my page... it contains all of their songs.
http://thecure-collector.blogspot.com/
The news section isn't updated and a few O'Donnell songs aren't on the list.
Cure collector... You have a great page I need to email you with questions!!
ReplyDeleteOffhand, does anybody know how to posess the Same Deep Water as You(Steve Libby remix) ? You can hear it on soundcloud.
here's another list if that can help you.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.impressionofsounds.com/cure-songs.htm
Thank you to TheCure-Collector and Fabien. Looking these over now.
ReplyDeleteCure Collector, that's quite a list, but if I may correct you on one of the official live recordings that you've listed, 'Curiosity - Cure Anomalies' is actually titled 'Curiosity (killing the cat)'. I know this because I own the Canadian cassette release of 'Concert', on which it occupies the b-side.
ReplyDeleteI believe "Cure Anomalies" is something like a third title for that set of songs.
ReplyDeleteDid any one record Bestival last night?
ReplyDelete@ Shawn
ReplyDeleteThank you for the information :-)
I think there are a few mistakes on my site... I should correcting them but I'm too lazy :-)
ReplyDelete@ Paul K
ReplyDeleteFeel free...
thecure.maniac@gmail.com
Shawn, are you sure?
ReplyDeletehttp://www.thecurerecords.com/record.aspx?id=1448
The list i indicated is missing a few things i think, for example the edit of lullaby extended versions from the Mixed Up 5 cd set.
Suerely the bestival broadcast will appear somewhere soon (I wish, you'll see, it's nice!).
A question: do you prefer them to release the deluxe and new album the same year, or one in 2012 and the other in 2013? (two years of Cure instead of one, then).

ReplyDeleteI really hope the Lost Wishes instrumentals are kept as they are. May sound strange but I would not like to hear new Robert vocals/lyrics added to any of those masterpieces. I also enjoyed the demo of Wendy Time that surfaced a while ago, much more than the album version. My "wish" is that the full Paris concerts get put up on-line. Some incredibly powerfull performances on those shows
ReplyDeletea secret studio recording of 'CUT AWAY' would be an amazing treasure. That YouTube video is simply awesome.
ReplyDeletea secret studio recording of 'CUT AWAY' would be an amazing treasure. That YouTube video is simply awesome.
ReplyDeleteJust a heads up...there is a new vinyl bootleg that showed up in record stores and on Ebay in the last few weeks called The Cure The Early Years. It's basically all the early BBC shows on 2 lp Vinyl, but the sound is great and the vinyl is on 140 gram, which is higher than usual. It certainly sounds beter than any bootleg on vinyl I own. I thought Robert posted something about this coming out soon a few years ago and I'm wondering if this is the end result...something very cleverly put out as an unoffical release...although the record states that is was "released by arrangement of BBC records"...who knows...
ReplyDeleteAnyways, you can check it out here:

This is great news! I can't wait!
ReplyDeleteSeems to be a nice object, that said the official version should come ou soonish, just wait 2 or 3 years if you can :)

ReplyDelete@Graig!
ReplyDeleteDid u hear something with further details about Studio projets from The Cure in 2012 that u can't tell for the moment?
Thanx 4 the reply?
stephan
Hi Stephan. No, nothing that hasn't already been said publicly.
ReplyDeleteThanx 4 the reply Graig!!
ReplyDeletePS>We are waiting 4 the final chapter & Follow up 2 Disintegration!!
I REALLY hope they do a great job on the remastering! It's a great album and deserves the best sound quality possible.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for Lost Wishes and all other unreleased stuff.
Lindsey: you are mistaken. The glove guide vocals are from the era, not re-recorded. The reason his vocals sound more like they do nowadays is because they were guide vocals and he wasn't straining - which he no longer does because he's matured as a singer and is more comfortable now. Steve severin confirmed this. By saying what you say you imply that Robert smith is a liar; defamation of character is a serious thing. Your theory is that he lies to his fans because we would somehow be less inclined to buy old songs with new vocals? I call bs. I think everyone here would shell out cash for vocals over the lost wishes tracks even if they were recorded today. Call me a liar... You would anyway ;)
