Robert with Tony Hawk

Update: I asked Tony if he remembered where/when this was taken, and here's his reply: "in Rome, Euro VMA's afterparty, 2004." Thank you, Tony. : )

"Tony Hawk posted this on his Twitter today (photo here). No explanation of when it was taken... i've never seen Robert look so relaxed in a fan photo! LOL. (Tony is a cool guy - long time Cure fan)" (Thanks Morris)

  1. Do The Cure own their rights to their songs? or does the Label own them???

  2. Tony Hawk performed down my street in Riverside when I was 15. He barely had any money. The DJ played "Killing an Arab" while Tony skated the half pipe (probably back in 87').

  4. Off the subject, but I would really be interested in Robert going solo, stripped down, raw, no makeup, hair, etc. - Just Robert, guitar and his voice and words.

  5. Can we call this a pseudo Robert tweet? ;-)

Morris, how did find the pic? Are you a TH fan?

  7. Yep, that was 04, when Robert Introduced Gwen Stefani on stage at the MTV Euro VMA's. Is that not her in the background? To see Robert, and Tony brings back great memories of 87 and 88. I used to skate, and read Thrasher magazine to The Cure. the most comfortable shirt to skate in was my white/day glow Kissing Tour shirt, with the lips on front and eye in back. Those were the days.

  8. Some guys on Tony Hawk's twitter, took TH heading wrong.

On candystripe legs, the spider-man comes... "bye Robert Smith, Disintegration was the best album ever!"

    They think RS had died!

  9. Isn't that funny Carnage? That was a comfortable shirt in 87. Mine cost $30 at the show so I wore it all the time on that principle alone. Nice that at most shows they are still around $30. The Cure and skating went hand and hand. Someone should have made a cool deck with the faces from head on the door. That would have been cool.

  10. Hey Craig, I heard on Sirius today that 1st wave will be playing an
"unreleased 3 hour Cure concert recorded at LA’s Hollywood Bowl"

Probably a repeat of the one they have already broadcast, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Monday, Sept. 7th, 9 pm Eastern

  11. RH Factor, there was a board of that glow face cover, also one of boys don't cry with a skateboard in Roberts hand instead of guitar. I forget what brands these are. I had painted a board in 87, I gave it a cheesy version of the top cover.

  15. Saw Def Leppard tonight (my work gave me tickets) and they rocked. I know we all have to be cool and like Cure, Interpol, Siouxsie, and all. But damn if Def Leppard don't take me back to making out with girls in band class in 7th grade wearing Def Leppard T-shirts. :):):)

  16. rh, eventhough robert smith would love to kill def leppard (for 'wish' being #2) i still sing the hell out of "photograph" at karaoke.

  18. What I like most about Gwen Stefani is her deep and meaningful song lyrics.

  19. Yeah, Swifty, me too. I will forever associate the spelling of 'banana' with dearest Gwennie. ;-)

  20. I wanted to forget about all the people dropping bananas out their their backsides when that song would play, but the mental image has resurfaced.

  21. Gwennie will probably call her next kid Bannanas. She named her second child Zumma Nesta Rock...which is up there with :
Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily (this one can't be topped!)
Poppy Honey & Daisy Boo (Jamie Olivers girls)
    Shiloh Nouvel (Jolie-Pitt)
    Bronx Mowgil (Ash Simpsons daughter)
    Apple (Gwynnie Paltrow)
Sparrow James Midnight (Good onya Nicole Ritchie)
...and of course, how could we forget the one and only...
Peaches Honeyblossom Michelle Charlotte Angel Vanessa Geldof !!!
