You can hear the Underneath The Stars remix on the MySpace page for Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. The track is credited to "The Cure (f/ Maynard James Keenan/Puscifer and Milla) - Underneath The Stars (Renholder Remix). " (Thanks Ryan)
Note: Please stop posting download links for the song. This is commercially available, so either buy the album, or download the track when available. Thanks.

that COULD have been beautiful if the bleeding anus extra vocal tracks weren't added.
ReplyDeleteFAIL.
Milla ruins it for me.
ReplyDeleteThe whimpering totally turns me off, but Robert sounds GORGEOUS and I love how you can actually hear the lyrics.
ReplyDeleteI love the stripped bare sound of Robert's singing, but the track is spoiled by the chick's voice.
ReplyDeleteSomeone with audio chops needs to dl this and cut out everything but Robert, k? Please?
ReplyDeleteLiked it but the moaning at the end did sorta fuck it up. I liked the lighter treatment but I was sorta hoping they would have rocked it a bit instead.
ReplyDeleteWhat the fuck do I know anyways? ;-)
Jerry
I agree it is really nice to hear Robert's lyrics more clearly. I don't know what went wrong for this album. "Underneath the Stars" is one of the more understandable tracks. "The Hungry Ghost" mixing is bloody awful. What happened?!
ReplyDeleteIn any case, even this stripped down version shows how damn catchy the melody is. What the frack is everybody talking about that cheesy cynical Beyonce video and song and not this amazingly beautiful Cure song! Pisses me off!
Supposedly it's cooler to bitch materialistically about some guy not buying you a ring, but to actually sing with conviction about the sadness we all feel is looked upon as pathetic or gross. We live in a screwed up culture, I tells ya!
I kinda liked it. Very subtle and his voice sounds great. The chick sounds MEH...Better than I thought.
ReplyDeleteIt's not too bad. Removing the woman would have been a good idea.
ReplyDeletereally, all the cure need to become a band that really matters again is... proper management, proper production, proper keyboards and a way to get the drums right, which is by no means an attack on Jason... he is capable allright... it is just the way his talent is used in this band... but all the intrinsic value is there!
ReplyDeletethe clearity of the mix is a painfull reminder of the sonic mess that is following the cure ever since bf.
reminds me of lita ford and ozzy osbourne.
ReplyDeletecheese.
I didn't like it and will stick with the live version. Next?
ReplyDeleteI love it. I love the fact that you can hear his vocals very clearly. The backround wimpering/whatever-the-hell isnt that great.
ReplyDeleteBut Robert sounds like a DREAM. His vocals on this song give me shivers nd this remix alows me to hear them more clearly. So I love it.
...and I agree with Rev. (as usual ;) that someone should cut out the extra crap and just leave His vocals. The bare sound is what makes it for me, and whoever that girl is (Milla?), well...it begs the question:
ReplyDeleteHow do these people even get recording contracts?

ReplyDeleteOh, Paul! You HAD to mention Lita Ford. Now I can't get her out of my brain. It hurts!
ReplyDelete:)
Oh my god. This sounded good at first but went downhill quickly.
ReplyDeleteSomebody needs to shut the girl up in this song. Where's the duct tape?
well said D A
ReplyDeleteFWIW, Milla is Milla Jovovich, actress from the movies Fifth Element, Resident Evil, etc. and apparently good friends with Danny Lohner/Renholder, ex-NIN bassist and the man who remixed UtS and assembled the rest of this particular soundtrack.
ReplyDeleteRoberts voice on this remix sounds nice , I cannot agree with the comments made by other fans that his voice should be more clearer on the original UTS or on any other songs.
ReplyDeleteWhat make 4:13 dream special to me is the effects on Robert's voice , it helps giving each song it's texture.
Remember The Cure and Bloodflowers , Robert's voice without effects becomes a bit dull after a while unless he really strains himself to sound completely different like on Harold and Joe , Homesick , Club America.
I think the voice effect on UTS , the chorus of The reasons why and Hungry ghost are sublime.
I really missed the voice effects on the last couple of albums , while they used to be more subtle I'm glad they brought them back as they add more atmosphere in my opinion.
The haunting backvocal on Apart is fucking brilliant !
Ok I'm done ;)

ReplyDeletei actually liked it. Milla's vocals reminds me of BJORK. At least its not a loud remix. (american trend style)
ReplyDeleteterrible.
ReplyDeletePlease stop posting download links for the song. This is commercially available, so either buy the album, or download the track when available.
ReplyDeleteWell, this is just a testament to how good the song is. If it still holds up even with some autotuned cow bleating over it, it's gotta be a classic.
ReplyDeleteBut in other news, if I were Robert, I'd be all over Jordan Fucking Schur's inbox DESPAIRING as best I could.
This is a travesty.
oops! sorry about the link... must have lost my mind on that one.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed Robert's voice. I do love original UTS but this one is nice to listen to as well.
ReplyDeleteNot that this is on topic at all but they finally revealed who the new Dr Who is.
ReplyDeleteI won't spoil it for anyone but I'm disappointed. It's such an obvious choice. Another white middle class male. He is the youngest one yet and looks more like a college student than the doctor...
ditto - terrible - but I'd also add " ...and awful".
ReplyDeleteWho'd have thunk it would be so easy to ruin such an awsome track?
Andrew: I just had a look at the Dr Who site. Oh dear! really disappointing. I was hoping a new Doctor would help with the impending BSG withdrawal. Don't think it will, now!
ReplyDeleteRemix was pretty good, didn't like the robot lady much though.
Andrew and PJW: Wow, wasn't expecting that. I'll give him a chance, but my first impression isn't good.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't sure about David at first, and now love him, so I'm holding out hope for Matt.
But that interview clip at the BBC has me worried.
Did everyone see the recent Christmas special with David Morrissey? Why oh why they didn't go with him is a complete mystery as he was jaw dropping as "The Doctor".
ReplyDeleteI was hoping for him or Colin Salmon. Someone with a bit of credit behind their name. I will definitely be giving the new guy a chance (he comes from my home county) but the response so far from pretty much everyone in the country has been overwhelmingly negative.
I HATE the vocals by Milla. It would have been a beautiful remix if the song just had Robert's vocals. What more do you need? His voice is so AMAZING
ReplyDeleteThey have managed to turn something beautiful into something fucking awful....guff just like the movie I presume
ReplyDeleteCure user, I totally agree with you on the need for voice effects as on "Apart" from "Wish" if need be, but my problem is that rather than beautifully complement the main vocals, the new effects make it less clear and sound like he's singing under water or something. I think the choruses to "Reasons Why" and especially "The Hungry Ghost" have been ruined by this. For some reason, the way Robert mixed things on "Wish" heightened things. Now things are less clear and quite irritating. I'm glad you're enjoying it though.
ReplyDeleteI wish Robert would re-release these songs less mixed in this new way as b-sides to the next album, though. :(
Jeez! That's Milla Jojovich? Former supermodel, fine. But has anyone seen her in that Joan of Arc film. It's painful, but that just might be the entirety of the people behind that. I've heard that she keeps emphasizing that she makes albums now. Is this what she sings like? Cheesy American accented amateurish punk singing?
ReplyDeleteShe should stick to modeling.
Craig, the interview worried me too. I felt the same as you with David Tennant; I hated him in "The Christmas invasion" but he quickly grew on me after that.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I can't understand why they didn't go for David Morrisey either.
Failing him I wanted it to be Sean Pertwee.
PJW I just hope for his sake and ours that they have an outstanding companion. Hopefully they will throw a curve ball and at least try not to have an overplayed will-they-won't-they love angle.
ReplyDeleteThey need someone with some age and name recognition to strike up a contrast. Helen Mirren wouldn't be a bad choice.
I hope you're right and they don't do that, although I'm worried that they will try and sex it up! errgh!
ReplyDeleteLike the Helen Mirren idea, but I recon it should be someone far less attractive!
It is sob stuff! Pure unadulterated kitsch! So...If I would call myself an ARTIST (van Gogh citation and so on), I wouldn't sell myself away like this. The whole thing seems to me like sheer trash. Everything only made for money.Disgusting.
ReplyDeleteRegarding the vocal effects talk. This last week I have listened to The Cure and 4:13 3x's straight through each on the iPOD, so with the headphones on and hearing all the nuances.
ReplyDeleteMy conclusion is that Robert's vocals on The Cure are the best of any Cure record, and Much better than on 4:13. Frankly, the guy has arguably the best voice and ability to stay on key of any rock singer out there, and the effects just are not needed and detract from the listeners experience IMO.
Second conclusion, The Cure CD is really under-rated, and I don't get the constant criticism of the production. I like the "sound" of it better than 4:13.
Third conclusion, if KM,KM,KM and The Cure had a child it would have been 4:13
The Cure x KM,KM,KM = 4:13
This is in no way a dissing of 4:13,it is a really good CD, but it could have been even better with less vocal distoration cr@p.
Somebody hook me up with this song. I don't want to buy the whole soundtrack, which is all that's available. I'd be willing to send you a dollar...no different than selling a cd to the local indie store, eh? thesam.sweet at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleterob, i might love you. well said.
ReplyDeleteCC
ReplyDeleteGee thanks. I didn't think anyone read my infrequent posts!
just like heaven insane covers by lumiere:

rob, you made some excellent points all around, and i agree with most of it. i love 4:13 but perhaps they overdo the effects at times. anyway, cheerzzzz...
ReplyDelete:-)
as for this UTS remix, it's yummable until milla chimes in, then WTF?
FAIL is an understatment...why didn't they just use the album track so moviegoers could hear how amazing (and unlike this pile of crap) it is????
ReplyDeleteAin't nothin' like the original, I say! (I wasn't fortunate enough to be at a concert where UTS was performed, but we got PLAINSONG so I cannot complain!!)
I was talking with Milla today, and she told me her feelings were hurt by all the negative comments here. She loves the Cure and was very excited and humbled to do this remix.
ReplyDeleteI told her to be brave, and that she had to realize Cure fans are very protective of the music, especially a song of UTS magnitude.
She smiled and thanked me for my kindness and for helping her install Skype on her MacBook... but i think she deleted her Chain of Flowers bookmark (she uses Google Chrome).
Awe, now I have guilt! Wait, there it goes. It's gone now. Tell her to buy some confidence with all the money she made...and that a couple people didn't passionately hate it.
ReplyDelete... some people like it, some don't, there's no reason to take the negative comments so personally. What artist doesn't expect criticism of their work? Well, calling her a "cow" and all that was unnecessary, certainly, but this is the internet, a place where random people say all kinds of shit. And it's true that Cure fans are very protective of Cure music; we are bogarters of sorts.
ReplyDeleteI thought the girls actual singing was okay, I like the instrumentation in the background, the strings, piano-chimey bits, etc. I love how Roberts vocals are so prominent and stripped of all that bloody processing, it sounds so much better this way.... I would've preferred it with Robert's captivating, sirenic voice alone, but what Cure fan wouldn't?
A lot of remixes ARE crap, but I don't think this is the worst, in fact, I don't think it's terrible either! Hopefully, this *might* bring up the album sales a little. <8-F
Finally got a chance to listen to this version.....robert's voice is beautiful.....makes me wish they would'nt have mudded the sound so much on the 4:13. Sometimes less is more. No comment on the added vocals, they do not enhance the song. Any avenue to get this beautiful song heard more often is a good thing since radio has foresaken the Cure.
ReplyDeleteWell there are so many Cure persona's , I think each Cure fan will have his own personal favorite.
ReplyDeleteI like dark Cure which can be created with these ghostly adorable voice effects that you find on 4:13's UTS , The reasons why and Hungry ghost. But also on Fear of ghosts , Apart , Snakepit , Never enough , there are so many. In fact I think they used effects up to Wish quite often but more subtle. Then the synths and voice effects disappeared or got tuned down for WMS , Bloodflowers and The Cure.
Which for me were albums to which I could not fully connect with.
I think it's very modern and necessary for the feel of the album.
In the end the Cure is best being the Cure , I understand why the Cure want to show that they can play acousticly but honestly 3/4's of the songs don't come across acousticly.
Oops touched upon another subject ;)
Now where's the dark album , with more ghostly Robert voices !
I would rather have the effects than suffer more (IMO) bland Bloodflowers or screaming self titled vocals.
ReplyDeleteWith 4:13 Dream The Cure decided to throw more textures into the music and it sounds great to me.
renholder = danny lohner I believe, ex of Nine Inch Nails... one of my favourite groups alongside the Cure. I haven't tracked this down and listened yet but somehow I can't see the two working together, despite wishing hard they would :(
ReplyDeleteitunes will not let you buy just the song so i guess i'll have to buy the whole album....
