i am trying to stay positive about this EP, but those samples sound truly horrid, i am sorry to say. in the scheme of things, the EP doesn't matter, but still. i just hope they don't fuck up UTS, or i will go into clinical depression. or maybe it's just my sucky mood pervading everything. gimme some hope, cure!
Cat, how could UTS be fucked up because of what you are hearing on Hypnagogic? Makes no sense.
I'm liking what 65dos did so far, especially the strong Oh Girl finale of The Perfect Boy. The rest... is ok... might be fun once in awhile, not much more.
because hynreck, they are using poor judgement with the mixing of the some of the singles and these seemingly god-awful remixes. but whatever. as i said, i am in a sucky mood, so that may be affecting my judgement. sorry to sound like such a downer!
Robert specified that he only chose 65dos for the remix, after big U decided on who would remix the 4 singles, so I'm not sure, if it's true, what kind of bad judgment it is.
when did rsx specify that, hynreck? i was under the impression that he choose the remixers. rsx can do whatever he wants, as i understand it. either way - bad judgement, period. sorry to be so harsh. you know i fiercely defend the cure when they deserve it, but i also don't hold back negative crit where it is merited. i think this whole ep idea is absurd and the songs sound horrid. i may change my mind, though; i hope so. for now, i am deeply skeptical. none of it matters, anyway. dunno why i care!
the intro already isn't that good for The Perfect Boy. The drums remind me of "Dance, Dance" by none other than the remixers themselves. And the guitar riff sounds like another track of theirs, "A Little Less "Sixteen Candles", and A Little More "Touch Me"".
The title might be wrong, but I have the right song.
andy - from the polish clip - everytime i hear jade's slaughtering of freakshow, i get more dissapointed each time. i might barf on the table! srry :(
but i love the SWID mix, its in the top 2 with 65dos. from what i hear in the new preview, it doesnt get really interesting until they combine all the songs togethor - then its MAGIC. no one else couldve done it like they could. its a unique mix. although the first few minutes were not the best, they were still weird and stand out.
and you know, the 65Dos remix, i've heard 15 min of it so far, and I have not been bored. but also not a dance clip, more of a extended remix and each track goes into the other.
i thought it was gonna be like "i can't believe it, i must dreaming, i love what you do to my head!"
"i should at least tired before, you and me are the world..."
You're right Cat, I just recalled, it's not Robert that said so, it's 65dos on their site, when they commented about the "other mix" made by unexciting emo bands. They then said it was Universal's call.
I kinda believe it. It does make sense, if you want to appeal to all the youngsters out there.
This is in private, right? Not a link, anyways. Contact me for assistance with finding the EP. AIM: Zephyr Aris. I'll delete this post if Craig isn't cool with it.
I'm not generally fond of remixes, and don't like any of those emo bands, but I find these to be the best official Cure remixes since Mixed Up. Apparently I'm alone on this!
I do like TOO. 65 DOS is nice, but it would have been more interesting had they really mixed the songs together. It feels like four separate tracks. BTW, they saved SWID.
The other tracks are rubbish in my opinion. TPB is atrocious. I listened without any prejudice, since I never heard anything by those artists before.
well, i have only heard the entire 65 exploding head remix, and i LOVE LOVE LURVE IT!!! it's fanfuckingtastic, and makes the EP worth it. gives cred to it. perhaps the others will suck - i will find out this weekend. but i LOVE the 65 remix and take back all my negativity about the pointlessness of this EP.
I prefer the remix of The only One to the original. Freakshow is terrible. SWID is forgetable They turned Perfect Boy into Close to Me (in a bad way) The 65DOS Megamix is awesome!
"Fleur voted against the EP before she voted for!" :p
Pierre, hello! :-) I am glad to see you here. You should post here more often. :-)
Please do NOT refer to me by my ex-name, though. I get all hissssssssy if you do that. :-) And it's not because I am hiding anything, but rather because I have MOVED ON. :-)
And the 65 DOS Exploding Head remix is fucking FANTASTIC! I can't get over how good it is.
I got my "advance copy" today and it's not too bad. I was expecting much worse. Don't get me wrong I still hate the choices of bands but they haven't killed The Cure.
Well I think some of the remixes are good, way better than I expected. The Only One remix is pretty good, clever use of the guitar intro that is sorely lacking from the single. Really good actually.
Freakshow remix ROCKS! It's truly fantastic, well maybe that's because I've gotten fond of club music.. But it kicks ass, best of the bunch!
Was kind of disappointed in Sleep remix, it just sounds too much like the single, it's way too ordinary, too "safe". Decent, no more no less.
And now the worst of the lot.. The Perfect Boy remix downright sucks.. Completely ruins the magic of the song. Worth a listen, but that's it..
And now the most talked-about.. 65 Days of Static remix of all the singles.. It's pretty fantastic, like perfect boy remix best, then freakshow as close second and the only one third and last sleep when I'm dead. Remix is organic, a lot of different sounds and just when you know what will come next it completely changes.. Great remix! 21:26 minutes of goodness..
Surely, if rob did the remixes himself it would kick more ass, but as it sounds it's pretty decent. Worth a buy, at least a listen. And considering as all the royalties go to charity everyone should buy a copy, even if you think it is crap. I think.
Ok I wasn't going to listen to the entire full versions of the mixes until I got a hard copy but a friend sent me a link to them last night & I couldn't resist.
And I'm surprised that they are not too bad. Didn’t think this lot of musicians could do a decent job with the exceptions of 65 DOS.
So the Best of the bunch is the 65 DOS mix! I love it! Quite different from the others and I love how all 4 songs combine into once contiguous mix. They did an outstanding job!
With the others, SWID & FS mixes are good, I guess I like them because they are quite clubby sounding & I do like that sort of stuff. The Jerod Leto mix is better than I expected but I'm not really into TPB. Sounds like a cheap rip-off for Close to Me and I really can’t stand anything Pete Wentz does.
But all in all it’s not as bad as I expected. So I do plan of getting the EP once I get back from vacation next week. It's good but I don't need to have it ASAP.
I hate every band involved with the remixes, but I love every single remix on here and think they are all inventive and good fresh interpretations of the Cure's music.
I am seriously shocked at all the negativity towards it because quite frankly, none of it is bad on any level.
It's interesting how anything different from the trivial Disintegration/Friday I'm in Love/"I'm going to die" lyrics stuff make cure fans so angry.
These remixes (the best ones in this EP though - not all are that good) makes it more evident on how keyboards are an important part of the "Cure sound" (the keyboards, not the keyboardist!) and how the band could sound much more modern (updated) and less boring doing stuff like this instead of doing these eternal Wish/Disintegration recreation attempts (all failed) and boring wah wah noises and annoying accoustic ballads.
This is fresh and new - although somehow partly done by others and not exactly the band we all like. You might not like the final result, you can do it. The world is not going to end because of that. But I was expecting way much worse things in this EP.
i am trying to stay positive about this EP, but those samples sound truly horrid, i am sorry to say. in the scheme of things, the EP doesn't matter, but still. i just hope they don't fuck up UTS, or i will go into clinical depression. or maybe it's just my sucky mood pervading everything. gimme some hope, cure!
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, CCAT, those samples are terrible and I will not be purchasing this.
ReplyDeleteCat, how could UTS be fucked up because of what you are hearing on Hypnagogic? Makes no sense.
ReplyDeleteI'm liking what 65dos did so far, especially the strong Oh Girl finale of The Perfect Boy. The rest... is ok... might be fun once in awhile, not much more.
I've listened to the ep once, it made no impression on me, and I have no desire to listen to it again.
ReplyDeleteAhh... still I'm envious.
ReplyDeleteOnce we get that EP... we'll only be that much closer to god, er, I mean to 4:13 Dream.
That's what I suspected, Craig. Hey, how did you score a copy anyway? Do you have 4:13?
ReplyDeletebecause hynreck, they are using poor judgement with the mixing of the some of the singles and these seemingly god-awful remixes. but whatever. as i said, i am in a sucky mood, so that may be affecting my judgement. sorry to sound like such a downer!
ReplyDeleteknew the EP was gonna suck. thanks to the remixers for ruining great songs for charity!

ReplyDeleteHi folks,
ReplyDeleteI've listened to the that samples in that
polish site and I really liked what I have
heard. I am kind of surprised with all
these negative comments.
I can't believe that I am the only one
who liked it...
Cheers
Remember, no posting links to download the ep. But what you do in private, is up to you. I can't control that. : )
ReplyDeleteno, of course not craig. i've learned after posting links before here. i don't post links, i just upload stuff. "this comment has been deleted".
ReplyDeleteThe 30 Seconds to Mars (Jared Leto) Remix gets better after the intro.
ever since the clip, i loved the Freakshow one. Jade did great. let's dance.
ReplyDeletethe intro already isn't that good for The Perfect Boy. The drums remind me of "Dance, Dance" by none other than the remixers themselves. And the guitar riff sounds like another track of theirs, "A Little Less "Sixteen Candles", and A Little More "Touch Me"".
ReplyDeleteThe title might be wrong, but I have the right song.
the 65dos remix starts off just like the clip we heard prior did. it's a good 21:27. i have work in 47 min. it's 4:13. ;)
ReplyDeletenot sure if i'll finish the 65dos remix.
Craig: new poll, which remix do you like the best? least?
ReplyDeleteAndy: Let's wait until everyone has it. : )

ill be buying it just for the 65dos remix!
ReplyDeletei mean it doesnt get really interesting until a few more minutes in and they stop doing that fuzzy thing with rob's vox.
ReplyDeleteCraig: They'll have it soon. ;)

ReplyDelete"It is a mess up there..."
ReplyDeleteThis EP will hurt 4:13 Dream sales.
Just over a month to go and they can't promote the album 'cause they have a totally forgettable EP to promote.
I'm not generally fond of remixes, and don't like any of those emo bands, but I find these to be the best official Cure remixes since Mixed Up. Apparently I'm alone on this!

ReplyDeletemy negativity is dissipating upon hearing the entire things... i am especially LOVING LOVING LOVING 65 DOS TOO AND SWID...
ReplyDeleteyup! i am an impetuous one alright... stay tuned for more tail-tucking opinion-reversing... or not...
