New album news!

Robert has posted at the official site. New album is entitled 4.13 Dream and is out on Oct. 13th...he thinks. : )

Update: Robert has corrected the title. It's 4:13 Dream.

    Yeah, i like the title, not much a brain-squeezer but works fine for the global concept of the number of members of the band and the number of studio albums Cure has done.

    I do not care much for the title at this point but I like it better than Dream 13. Hopefully it will grow on me - if not, oh well. It's the music that counts.

    i still can't get over the fact that the majority of comments from Cure "fans" are negative.

    Four singles - 8 new Cure songs - Now a title for the forthcoming album... and still the negativity flows. (not to mention we just got a major tour with three hour shows)

    i don't get it.

    Morris: I don't like the rampant negativity either, which is why I try to temper my more negative comments with something more reasonable. I don't care for the album title too much but that is not what really matters in the end, as I said. I am fiercely defensive of most things cure - at least when they merit being defended, like the music! - but also don't like to hold my tongue if I don't like something. However, I try to use a reasonable tone in my critiques. I agree with you, though: Eight amazing songs and a kick-fucking-ass tour! I am especially besotted with the b-sides. I think they are complex in their way and almost arty sounding... I really think Porl and Robert could make an amazing art-proggy-rock album if they wanted!

    So yeah. :-)

    In all honesty, and I know am waxing hyperbolic here (although to me it's not hyperbole) - I think these b-sides are even better sounding than UTS. UTS sounds eargasmic, but DU and WY and AKOS are sublime! I would love an arty album full of those sounds.. I might even prefer it to UTS...

    I can't wait for the album. I think it will be great... I'm just not looking foward to going into a store and asking for a 4:13 Dream. Sounds a bit like asking for tickets for the worlds most flamboyant train service.

    Actually, I don't think it's fair to make a title judgement BEFORE we actually hear the album. Titles have one connotation when they are disembodied from the music ... but take on new dimensions when we actually hear the collection of songs. I would say that barring self-titled, all Cure albums are properly titled given the sense of the music inside...

    I'm indifferent about the title, but it is better than "Dream Thirteen" which makes me think of the fraudulent US Olympic basketball Dream Team; funny how NBC doesn't cover basketball so much this year; it's almost like it was an excuse to watch MIchael Jordan beat a bunch of amateur foreigners!

    Anyway, what's the significance of 4.13? Is it 4+13=17 tracks?!

    I'm quite surprised Robert seems generally on track! Even if it does end up getting delayed it won't be by much more than a week or 2. Quite exciting!

    Here's something positive, Morris. I'm glad The Cure played hockey arenas in my cities on the tour and not the bloody Exhibition Place Molson Amphitheater in Toronto because I saw Radiohead there last week and the sound was bloody awful! The Cure's choices had excellent sound, in contrast.

    I'm thinking 13-4=9 which means World Tour on September 9th. They will visit 13+4=17 Countries.
    And, and, and that would be a perfect Dream for all fans because they will play "Three Imaginary Boys" and "2Late" at each tour. But Wait, it gets even better. During their encore, they will play:

    HALO = 4 char in the word

    2 LATE = 2
    Three Imaginary Boys = 3
    HOT, HOT, HOT!!! = 3
    The Walk (Live Concerts): "You think your tired now, but just wait until 5" = 5

    2+3+3+5=13

    playing 4*13=52 songs at each stop.

    BRILLIANT!!!

    Don't worry, Going Home Time. Robert promised us we'd get all the songs from these sessions on CD at some point. He's wanted to make a more commercial friendly album first and he's talked in the past about a Christmas time dark album; maybe it'll be a bit later. Then again, you might know all of that by now, if you hang out around here. :(

    Just glad there's finally an album title we can latch onto.
    4.13 dream is okay. Not my first choice by far... but I'm looking forward to see if I can make connections between the music and the title, whenever it's released.

    Now if they could only call it Monocle Dreams, it would be so much better!!

    Yeah! At least we now know the name of the album which I kind of like. It’s cool that Robert is using the 4:13 part in the title and it will be a Dream to finally get the album soon!!! Robert if you delay it again, just please have it out by the end of the year, that’s all I’m asking for!!!

    Even though I've posted a few negative comments here & there, I am also getting a bit tired of all the negativity especially from myself. I did it in the past and missed a few good years of being a supportive Cure fan. I know it's hard not to be upset with delay after delay but in the end when it comes out, I hope everyone will be happy & really enjoy the album. And maybe we’ll get another tour too! Looking forward to the possibility of seeing The Cure once again! So I'm going to try to take the positive attitude and wait patiently for the album & to hear the studio version UTS & BRDB and maybe even ABINK. In the end no matter when it comes out, I know it will be worth the wait!!!

    Wow, the Jungian symbolism thing is tres intriguing. I am somehow doubtful that RSX had that in mind, but perhaps so, given his proclivity for attaching symbolic meaning...

    Naturally there is the literal interpretation which is what makes the title a bit dry... also the inclusion of "dream" makes me recoil a bit... but as I said, whatever...

    However, now that I am seeing these more intellectual interpretations I am rethinking my dislike for the title.

    Am I the only one who is as excited to hear BRDB as UTS?

    Alastair and Morris: I think you will find that most COF peeps are a bit more "reasonably critical" rather than unreasonably so when it comes to the Cure. I too hate the more nihilistic approach that some people take toward the Cure. I have probably fallen into that category once or twice, but in general I do not think it's a productive way.

    elise---Not sure anything can keep me awake today. The show last night was good and I really went bonkers. I lost my voice...singing too much, my hands hurt...clapping too much & my feet hurt...stading too long! My body can't take it anymore!

    How the hell am I going to survive a bunch of Cure shows if the Wishful Thinking Tour takes off next year???

    And I have to do a web portal training session with the Customer Service Staff this afternoon & I don't know how I'll be able to do it. I might just pass out asleep in the middle of it! :p

    Cat - I can't wait to hear BRDB so I can blast it in my car and try and figure out what the hell Robert Smith is screaming out other than "There's Something Going ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN"

    I fucking loved that song LIVE! Totally rocked and rattled my girly parts.

    And ah.....UTS, well I think it's pretty consistent how most of us feel about that song. Epic is the word. I have a feeling the whole album will be epic.

    But yeah the whole Jungian thing is really interesting. I've always been one to analyze my dreams. I used to keep a dream journal back in my 20's due to a couple of re-occuring dreams that were intense and puzzling, and referenced them with a dream dictionary. I've heard of Jung, but didn't relate the 4.13 Dream thing until mentioned on the official. I definitely think there is a tie to the Jungian studies. It goes hand in hand with Hypnagogic States as well.

    Can't wait to listen to baby rag dog book, this song is truly something, and if there's something going on, it's certainly not Smith and Co. loosing their magical touch, as some have implied in the past and are still implying now.

    Yes, BRDB is freakin' awesome. It reminds me of 70s stuff mixed with a bit of rockabilly. LURVE it.

    Hynreck: I have fiercely defended the Cure for years against trendy and impetuous claims that RS and Co. have "lost it." For me every Cure album has abundant merits. Not every song resonates with me, but many if not most do. There are flaws in recent production from my POV, but musically and lyrically the Cure still kick so much ass. I am not some nostalgia-immersed Cure dork; The Cure for me is NOW. :-)

    Wow. Wonderland sounds good as an album title. At least for Cranes. I loved their last two records Future Songs and Particles & Waves. Hope they'll go on with this more trip hop kinda sound, that perfectly fits to Ali's voice. :D

    Oh, and I like the 4.13 Dream title for the Cure record, despite I still prefer 4:13 or just Thirteen.

    Moontear - I'm not sure how I feel about the title Wonderland. It makes me think of Erasure's first album. But I can't wait to hear it. I agree - I think the last 2 albums were some of their best work, and were an amazing come back.

    To keep this on topic a bit - I'm not a fan of the new Cure album title either, but it's only a title. I'm much more concerned with the production of this album.

    These comments about negativity/positivity have got me thinking again. As I said in a post last week or something, for me the negativity comes from the same wellspring that would have me raving about other eras. It is based on a critical rubric not an emotional response or any loyalty to the band. I detest loyalty that extends beyond support. That is, I will attend the shows, buy the music etc...this is based on loyalty and I have no problem supporting the band as such. However, I won't restrain my critical nature just because I have had strong positive feelings for the band in the past, that would be disingenuous. I am the same way in my personal relationships, anything that I would be critical of stranger for, family and friend alike will feel that same level of scrutnty. Since the band has truncated to 4 members, I and many others have simply not enjoyed the new direction of the bands sound or songwriting. For example, I prefer the Trilogy versions of songs over the Festival version of songs 100% of the time. So even though I went to 8 4tour shows, I generally found them dissapointing. I also don't like any of the new songs apart from UTS, mostly because they don't sound like Cure songs and unlike say Never Enough (which at the time sounded like nothing they had done) they aren't interesting that I find them appealing. The remasters/box set have been the most interesting thing going for the last couple of years and I still wouldn't give the efforts on those any higher than a B-. I am interested in 30 anniversary stuff (DVD/special shows) but we'll have to wait and see. If the dark album comes out that might be an improvement as well. I actually hope UTS isn't on this record and can be featured on a really good cohesive record...the kind that got me listening to this band in the first place.

    Most of their albums reference the title in a song. All of them except Wild Mood Swings and the untitled album. But would a song about 4.13 Dream be any good? I dunno.

    As for the negativity, I think critique is great and, while I like what I am hearing from The Cure, I do understand some of the disappointment people have expressed over not enjoying their current sound and wanting to. If I felt that way, I would want to express it or discuss it, maybe even rant about it, and I think a fan forum is an appropriate place to do that. I don't have a problem with that.

    What really fuck me off, however, are the trollish, vitriolic and verbally abusive posts people make about the band, the music or the fans. I am not surprised to see them on the official site, haven for the unfiltered masses that it is, but I really don't expect to see it here, and fortunately I rarely do. :^P

    I have NO issues whatsoever with people expressing distaste for Cure songs, new or old. I do it myself. We should be free to express critique. Constructive critique, though, is more conducive to interesting conversation than destructive critique, which just fouls up everyone's mood. I think Maree said it best about trollish vitriolic behavior. It should always be frowned upon. Ultimately, it reflects very poorly on the person dishing it out, anyway.

    Namepa, I thought you expressed yourself constructively, for example, and to that end, I am curious if you would elaborate on one of your points. You mentioned that these songs don't sound like The Cure to you. When I hear people say things like that, I always find it odd, because the Cure have a baffling variety of styles, and I find it very difficult to pinpoint the "Cure sound." When people reference the signature Cure sound, I assume they are referring to the sound that made them staggeringly popular - i.e., the sound from HOTD through Wish, that is echoed in songs even today but not mirrored throughout each album like it used to be? Or can you elaborate?

    For me - and I know this is simplistic sounding - but every song by the Cure is a "Cure song." Just because it may not have some of the "signature" sounds like long intros, echoey guitars etc. does not make it any less Cure-ish to me. So I am a little bemused by your comment. But that's just me...

    Also, eight shows?!?! Wow! Lucky you! But since you found them disappointing, did you not think to cancel some of them or had you already spent too much money? Just curious... :-) In either event, I am jealous! I went to five, though, so I shouldn't complain.

    I've been following The Cure since 1984 and LOVE the new singles, especially the brilliant b-sides.

    I LOVE the album title.

    I'm not really into the bands doing the remix EP but I'm curious to hear their interpretations.

    I LOVE the recent artwork as well.

    Heck, I even LOVE the boring new videos.

    I really wasn't huge on "The Cure" album, but recent activities have me feeling giddy like I was 17 again. Yay!

    3. As for the negativity, and my contribution thereto, it would get deadly dull really fast if all you ever saw here was treacle-laden band worship. Apart from the pathologically addicted, who would really want to come here and read nothing but fluff? No, I'm not siding with trolls -- no way -- but it should be all right to dislike certain songs, performances, choices, etc. The only problem is when it begins to matter to an inappropriate degree (I raise my hand); when that happens, it's time to reconsider one's priorities and hopefully get back on a track that is mentally healthy (once again, I raise my hand). As a personal example, if I never get a studio version of Underneath the Stars, life will go on, and I will have many other worthy diversions to aid/abet the preservation of sanity.

    Now back to watching and listening as the rain falls... and falls... and falls some more. (I'm getting 'Fayed' -- she's been with us for a couple of days now. It's all good though. I love the rain and we were in dire need.)

    At least it's not as bad as Vertigo; I hate that song so much. It's so cowardly in its attempt to appeal to the mainstream. Another Obama favorite is U2's attempt to copy both "Where the Streets Have No Name" and Coldplay: "City of Blinding Lights", which plays at every Obama event.

    Wouldn't it be wonderful for one of us to be able to run one day and have The Cure playing in the background and not worry about offending idiotic voters? I can picture it now: a candidate emerging triumphant to the sounds of The Drowning Man or at least "Friday I'm In Love" without being accused of seeming depressing or effeminate!

    The trick is to use the german pronunciation: 4.13 dream is "for certain dream". By the way i'm confused by the dots. Robert posted 4.13 but earlier it was announced as 4:13 (like the time indication). The position of the dot on the accompanying picture on the official site seems to high to be 4.13 and looks moore like 4:13

    I don´t know, but i think 4.13 was better, but until we hear the explanation, it´s hard to make a proper judgment.

    4.13 title left more to the multiple arguing, and 4:13 Dream is clearer to first sight, but i still think that all is about Cure has 4 members and this will be the 13th studio album and have a new Cure full-lenght cd it´s always a Dream came true for us.

    I´m picturing in my mind that Robert is sitting in front of his Mac watching and enjoying all the different ideas we made up trying to decipher the mistery of the 4:13 Dream and he´s laughing to our endless desire for finding the right meaning of any Cure related stuff.

    I personally like it when they used to pick a song off their new album and use that as the title. The songs they usually would pick were good choices to fit the mood of the album as a whole.. Like: Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, Faith, Pornagraphy, The Top, Disintegration, Bloodflowers.. etc.

    I prefer the time format (4:13) to the date format (4.13). Of course, I would, given my temporal obsession... ;-)

    But I wonder: Was it merely a MISTAKE on Robert's part, posting 4.13, or did he change it according to fan feedback? Robert trolls all the sites, he knows what's goin' on. He made the mistake not ONCE, but TWICE - first in the title, then in the body of the message. Hmmmmmmmmmm.....

    But I am thinking he just mis-typed...?

    Anyway, I like how it echoes their 10:15 single, and how it epitomizes not just elements of the band but also time itself, and any other symbolic import he/we could give it.

    I also like the divergence from their "typical" titles - i.e., referencing a song within the album. They didn't do that all the time, of course...

    Actually, I woke up this morning at four AM-ish after a particularly gripping dream...

    Maybe the dream part has some signifigance. I'm thinking if the darker album is seen more as a related piece, rather than a whole seperate body of work, the title for that album may be something like 4:13 Nightmare (which sounds even more ghastly than dream).

    Fantac - I said something yesterday on the official about nobody giving a shit and one of the mods came on and said that it's not that they don't care, they just don't have the power to actually ban anyone. They couldn't even delete their own account if they wanted. And with all the spamming from Princess Peach and a few others, they don't have time to go in and delete hundreds and hundreds of posts full of spam. She also said that really the only way to get banned is to post under CURE:ROBERT because apparently people pretending to be RS causes the site to lose credibility. LOLOLOLOL! Laughable loss of credibility. The site is PATHETIC.

    Only the host can delete accounts, and even then - a banned person can find their way back in. Just ask DJFreeksh0w.

    Pathetic, irritating, and just drives me insane but until there is a new site or a credible host - nothing will change.

    Did I mention that I'm so happy to be over at COF? I'm having the best time with some of you in chat :) And Craig does an awesome job of keeping the forums in line and there is more news on The Cure here than on the official. Love all the polls too.

    For the record: I changed my vote yesterday to A-Side: The Only One and B-Side: Without You. My b-side vote didn't change, but my A-side has changed several times. :)

    Cranes new record will be called Cranes. Hopefully it's better than Cure's self titled record. I will go to the Freiburg and Marburg Shows. :)

    I was thinking last night about how crazy the Cure is organization-wise. No other band with the Cure's legacy is this chaotic, are they? I find it infuriating and funny at the same time. But really, they could use some management and direction. Good thing RSX ain't no parent!

    underneath the stars would have been a stellar title for the new record. The song and the album release at the same time, would have given the new CD a shot at some limelight again. Not to be negative guys but the cure need a little bit of a commerical impact, to keep the funds and their P and L going. That way we can see more shows and 10 more years-album and show numbers have been down so bad

    On second thought, did they? I haven't seen a single copy of either of them here in Canada! lol Simply sad.

    But seriously, they're bound to release the album in 2008!!! I mean... There ARE delays to respect eventually, no? Like the title... I mean... They can't change it forever! Certainly not after they've been printed! Wouldn't that be something, huh? The big shots of the company being called and told: "oh we printed 1 million but Robert wants to change the . for a : !!! Ah!

    Cat - About Freakshow not getting much love, I think you have to consider the order of appreciation of the singles corresponds to the order of their release...

    When it was released, Freakshow got a somewhat good reception (better than Sleep When I'm Dead anyway, if I remember correctly). I think some fans like songs better when they're released. Must be the excitement! Maybe this has to do with the poll results?

    I think Robert is not sure what he wants to release, for sure he is not happy with the songs so far. I mean: if they have good songs why not release the album ? whats the problem ?

    Like someone said before: they must call the album after a song on the album , like they did with 17 seconds, faith, pornography, disintegration, bloodflowers, the top.

    There must be some kind of theme. And i think thats the problem: they dont have one.

    When i went to some concerts this year i really felt happy, so nice to see them. But i dont get excited anymore with the things they release , they lost it.

    Maybe i lost it. My love for the cure. Its sad.

    the only song that reminds me of the cure i fell in love with, ironically, is 'the only one,' the one song that seems to get the most bashing for being a pop song robert could write in his sleep. the b-sides are sloppy and directionless, except for 'all kinds of stuff' which has a bit of passion and anger. except the song has no hook or great guitar line to speak of.

    'sleep when i'm dead' is a terrible song, sorry. and 'the perfect boy' isn't much better. robert has written this song so many times before it's not funny anymore. 'freakshow' is good just because it's weird.

    my problem is the production has no personality, nothing to set the songs apart. this keith uddin guy worked on the self-titled as well, which worries me. i'll save my judgment for the final product once/if the album is released this year. and the less said about the upcoming 'hypnogogic states' thing the better, probably. but who knows?

    Marco, I'm with you. There's no spark. And before this brings an avalanche of 'negativity' accusations, you've got to remember the albums they used to put out, from the very first through to The Top. The rot set in after that and apart from the odd exception it has been a long, painful decline into self-satire and apparent ego-tism. Saddest of all, the standards aren't there. It really is painful to see these songs being wheeled out. One half bit of tune here, the odd refrain there...you'd think it was the second coming judging by this board. Ok, so the official board is deluged with tripe...but sorry, so is this one in an obverse sort of way. No, this isn't an attck on certain members, just a particular viewpoint. It's because some of us feel so strongly about The Cure (just as those that love the new stuff) that you owe it yourself (andin some cases 25+ years of listening) to tell the truth as you see it. Yes, it's sad - the new stuff is mostly just awful. I dont doubt that some feel sincerely that the new stuff is great (I'm not being patronising, but I'm guessing most are no older than their 30s max). I just dont see it that way. The title is just another blunder. It kind of lacks any judgement and is trying too hard to be to be snappy\modern. It sounds silly for The Cure, despite Robert liking to move on all the time and confound expectations. It would confound a lot more if there were some good songs, never mind a good title.

    I just wish The Cure would stop, not just so we can live int he imagined glow of the wonderfulpast, but because the material isn;t there, and hasn't been for a long time. It's too painful, a sad pastiche. Robert spoke of film scores or something in that line...

    ...also, as a guitarist I much prefer Robert's guitar playing to Paul's. Paul has got the chops, but Robert has that simple 'something' which seemed central to his song-writing style, and is no slouch on lead stuff too, when he wants to (if\when he still plays properly). Wish I could find something good to say about The Cure these days (so does everyone else I'm sure, lol).

    One quick not first about the recent title change...

    In GB and parts of Europe, the period is used in time stamps. In fact on both the original SW and Fiction versions of KAA, 10.15 SN is listed. I have seen it both ways on different releases since then. So it makes little difference as 4.13 may have meant 4:13 all along. Also : can refer to ratios or lists so I can safely say that 4 guys 13th record is too likely to consider other possibilities, especially in light of the 4Tour. (we certainly didn't debate that and this is most assuredly a spawn from that rationale.)

    When I said that they didn't sound like Cure songs to me I meant that they didn't have those elements that attracted me to the band when they became my favorite. I got HOTD walking home from school when I was 15. Some little kid rode up to me on a bike and just said take this. It was a cassette copy and at that point (1985), I had never even heard of the Cure. I listened but it made no impression on me (other than Push which kind of reminded me of U2) I thought they were probably American from back east or something with names like Smith and Thompson and Williams. So I was pretty ignorant about the whole thing. I later heard Inbetween Days on heavy rotation on KROQ and realized that was on that weird tape I got. I listened some more but frankly it still wasn't something that I listened to that frequently. I did however like it enough that when the singles record came out the next year that I bought that. That was a revelation and I liked the 80-82 stuff. When WCIBY? came out I felt in keeping with the silliness of Close to Me, LGTB etc, but when JLH came out my attitude about the band changed quite a bit. It had the melancholy of the earlier stuff but it was much more developed and ornate. It was a very beautiful song and I often wish I could hear it the way I did before I had heard it some 1500 times. The instrumentation was key for me:Drums/Bass/2 Guitars and 2 KB parts (Piano and Strings). I was a big DD and DM fan then as well and really liked the use of electronics to flesh out the sketches that were the earlier material. This was used frequently, but not exclusively on KM3. When Disintegration came out I was stunned. All the BassVI, the long intros, the effervescent strings, the rhythm patterns all of it conspired to create what I think is the best record I have ever heard. Plus there was a cohesiveness and level of production that I found very appealing. Many of these elements are present throughout the bands career, but here they were maximized in effort, intensity and focus. Wish moved away at times, often because of Porl incessant wah wah and Wild Mood Swings was almost a complete departure. BF was cohesive, but rougher and warmer sounding, almost like a contrived attempt at doing something on a scale like Disintegration, but apart from 39 and BF, the record is much less dark and lacks the complexity of D. The eponymous record had some of everything as we all know and so there were points that moved in this direction, but like WMS it was all over the place and had some real stinkers next to some brilliant stuff. Of course looking back now I can make the argument that Disintegration sounds the least like any other record. For me the critical elements are: Robert’s (read not Porl’s) guitar style whether on Bass VI or traditional 6 string, the KB accompaniments and the intricate lyrics and vocals. These can be found all throughout the bands career despite what the over all sound of the era is. A great example of this is Just One Kiss from 1982-1983. Robert himself has said that he doesn’t consider the “Fantasy Trilogy” (LGTB/TW/LC) to be “Cure” songs in fact he hoped that they would be such flops that he could escape his Fiction contract with Chris Parry and do a solo record. Be this as it may J1K, is a phenomenal song, Robert’s guitar is really strong and reminiscent of both Pornography and Blue Sunshine forming a strong bridge through this otherwise uneven period. The keys in the background are also a staple sound pushing the song along. So when I listen I look for songs with those elements and so far apart from UTS I haven’t really heard them.

    Well what’s wrong with Festival is that it sounds like a cover band to me. I listened to IOTWCS, Plainsong and the other songs that appear on both Festival and Trilogy and in much the same vein as my post to Cat relays, the songs are weaker with Porl spiraling on top of them (which is almost a Jazz expression) and without keyboards. It's like gourmet versus non gourmet cuisine. Non gourmet can be very tasty indeed, but there is a richness and depth of flavor that gourmet food hits upon that daily fare can not best. The Cure in their current composition and attitude are not performing at their most sublime; they lack the seasoning and complexity that would make for a truly sumptuous feast.

    Thank you for your contributions marco, flastaff and namepa. Seriously, I read your posts with a lot of interest.

    Although I disagree with a lot of what you guys wrote, what I mostly feel is sadness, as DJ put it.

    There was a time around the self-titled album that I wondered if The Cure had indeed lost "it", whatever "it" is. I too was looking for some sort of naive excitement from their music. I even lost some interest in the older stuff. Not everything mind you but it was like I was seeing the music I used to live with everyday with a new eye or rather, listening to it with a new ear. And it felt bad for a time. Then I kinda let go of it and I didn't see them live from 2000 to 2008 so... It sorta went away.

    In 2008, with the tour, meeting peeps on COF, seeing them live twice and when I heard UTS, everything came back to me. I even revisited every single album and it was like falling in love all over again. In my life, 2008 has been magic. Not because The Cure got "it" back. But rather because "I" got "it" back. "It" being my curiosity, my passion, my interest, my naivety for this music that's been, along with my family, the only real constant in my life. The Cure has provided me with the soundtrack to my life.

    So it's not being blind and saying I love ANYTHING from The Cure. It's rather a way to enjoy the music and approach everything it means, everything it is to me. So I can't believe I'd ever wish for them to stop. Even when it's not the same as it used to be (meaning they did evolve in a lot of directions over the years - I still think The Cure isn't a good album), I think it's unfair to say they've lost something. If anything, we, the fans, evolve too and we very well might be the ones losing something.

    Not meaning it's wrong not to love their stuff. But there's a big difference between not loving some of their songs and overlooking what's always been magic about this band and their music. The excitement before a Cure show is unlike anything I've ever felt in my life (and I've seen a lot of shows).

    So I think Marco put it best when he mentioned he might be the one who "lost it" and that's what makes me sad. Because I do look forward to anything The Cure releases or does now but there were years when I didn't really care and it wasn't a good feeling...

    namepa - that is the longest comment i have ever read. while I cant agree on everything you said - i find porl's guitar adds quirkness, and his input is just invaluable. i dont miss the keyboards too much, though i would welcome them back definetly especially on songs like charlotte sometimes. i do find that your comment was one of the most interesting ones
