As far as I can remember, they have always been mislabeled. It's just one of those things, some people have difficulties beliving things cannot be properly categorized in the black and white section.
my iTunes says the Cure is "Rock" but what do those guys know.
so what's everyone's take on Pitchfork? I recently spent like a day on the site watching Deerhunter and !!! performances... and the reviews I've read are pretty decent. Sure they called the Cure emo, but they get points for what the called Jared Leto.
Pitchfork provided a link to "The Only One" below the article. I emailed the "news" section yet again, urging them to at least place links to the newer songs and b-sides. People have to know The Cure is better than in the last decade; at least it looks to be shaping up that way. I love "Freakshow".
Anyway, they just sent back a block email saying the message was received. (sighs)
True, David, but I would have liked a swipe at Fall Out Boy!
If Craig or anyone's interested www.pitchfork.tv has a streaming of a documentary on The Smiths' "The Queen Is Dead" until Thursday. It's really good. I've watched about half of it and learned all kinds of things about the songs. I had no idea the title track meant so much.
That was pretty funny. Yeah The Cure are not exactly helping their cause of trying to remain unbranded by hiring the God Fathers of EMO are they?
Just a shame that all 4 tracks are being remixed by artists(?) from the same genre. You can tell right now that the diversity is going to be limited as all these bands sound the same.
yeah pretty much to be called "overlords" or damn near anything would be awesome.
yeah Deerhunter! You watch interviews with that guy? He's stinking hillarious. And, in a shameless "I-swear-I'm-famous" moment, my pal (we all grew up in Atlanta... oh shit Cat you're in Atlanta, aren't you? We've gone over this before) dated the drummer.
John - you're absolutely right so I tactfully recant my statement. Good catch, and good point.
the cure are NOT emo! jeebus! why are these hipster idiots so hell bent on labels? what has our world come to?
ReplyDeletewhere's my pancakes?

DEERHUNTER RULES, PERIOD. I see them for the 3rd time this Wednesday.
ReplyDeleteWhile I hate to defend any press...
ReplyDeleteThe first article states the cure influenced current emo-stadium groups. They didn't outright call the cure emo.
That said cant we just call it music?

..."overlords" OF damn near anything....
ReplyDeleteI can think of things that one could be called that wouldn't be, as I so eloquently put it, "awesome."
most of those things that wouldn't be awesome include the word, "turd," a la the other posts.... I mean, gross!

ReplyDeleteThanks for posting the news articles even though they offer no new info on the EP. Still good to read!
