Paul Banks on The Cure

Paul Banks of Interpol talks about the influence The Cure had on his band, in the Oct. issue of Blitz:

What about The Cure, especially on albums like Pornography or Disintegration? Didn't they influence Interpol?
"The Cure is the band that all of us in Interpol can say influenced us. When I was younger I listened to them a lot. Carlos as well. Actually, he took a straight influence from this band on the way he played the bass and the keys. To me, Robert Smith is also one of these examples: you can't be Robert Smith if you're not Robert Smith. It's one of the bands with the deepest influence on Interpol, because we all like them. Roger update

rogerodonnell - YES, very excited and happy this morning "Quieter Trees" will be performed in London by the CYM part of the Guildhall School of Music!! If you want to hear "Quieter Trees" you can download the demos here. It describes Hockneys Bigger Trees Near Warter.

Also, Roger is on a new track by Secrets For September: "Ages ago Roger worked on a track of mine, and to cut a long story short we put it out as a single today. You can hear it here. He does a fantastic Pink Floyd esque solo on the moog." (Thanks Matt)

Cure in 'Best of Chorus' DVD boxset

"INA, the french TV archives company, will release in October a 3 DVD boxset with the best moments of the "Chorus" (a famous music TV program from the late 70's-early 80's). This DVD will include the Cure performing in the Theatre de l'Empire in Paris (november 79). You can also watch the show online from the INA website." (Thanks Jerome C.)

"As most people know Washington, D.C. 1984 commonly circulates as the official COLD bootleg, however the last 5 minutes or so of the last song Forever is cut, the bootleg also has a small cut in A Forest keyboard/guitar intro.

Wolfgang's Vault acquired Bill Graham Presents master recordings some years ago and has the complete uncut show streaming as low bitrate MP3, unfortunately for non-members the amount it allows you to play per month is extremely limited. However if you buy a 1 year membership for $48 you can access the whole show as 192kbps MP3.

*It's the 2nd last show of The Top Tour 1984, and is just Boris Williams' 8th show with the band, he'd only been with the band 10 days when they played this show!" (Thanks Brent)
