Simon is doing Mountain Mayhem again


Just as he did last year, Simon will be supporting Ride For Michael in the Mountain Mayhem 24 hour race. He'll be on Team 2, where he's described as ""The deep dark one - A genuine legend, is all. Reading Supporter". :)

Reeves Meet & Greet in Wisconsin

Reeves will be doing a Meet & Greet and Reverend Guitars demo at Cascio Interstate Music in Wisconsin on Aug. 3rd.

Cascio also has contests to win tickets to Reeves' show at Shank Hall later that night, and for an autographed Spacehawk guitar.

Andy Anderson update

From Jenn Vix on Facebook: "Happy to announce that I've recorded a track with Andy Anderson, who played drums in The Cure, The Glove, and with many other bands and musicians. I'm now mixing this first track, and we have plans to record a second one over the next few weeks. This new music will be on my upcoming EP, scheduled for a late Oct/early November release. Publicity will happen ahead of the release date."

Perry joins Love Amongst Ruin

Update (06/07/15): New interview with Steve seems to indicate that Perry does NOT play on the new album, but will join them for live shows and will write with Steve for the next album:

Arena: On this record, you worked with Perry Bamonte from The Cure, which is pretty wicked. How did he enter the fold, and how has he contributed to Love Amongst Ruin and the band's music?

Steve Hewitt: I first met Perry in Paris when The Cure and Placebo played at French radio station NRJ's birthday show in some French theatre. We have stayed in touch pretty much from there. When we found ourselves no longer in bands, I thought it a good idea to get Perry involved with LAR. Perry actually got involved after the album was finished, but we will be writing together for the next album, and he will be playing live with us as a full time member.

Just checked with Daryl Bamonte, and here's what he said: "Perry did not play on the LYW album but is in the band now, will play live and also write/perform for the next album."

'There's a Girl in the Corner'

Robert Smith's excellent cover of The Twilight Sad's 'There's a Girl in the Corner' will be available on a limited edition 7" and a digital download on June 15th. You can pre-order the 7" via The Twilight Sad's website and at Rough Trade.

Robert's share of the proceeds from the single will be donated to Amaze.

Music-News will be giving away 5 copies of Roger and Julia's 'Love and Other Tragedies'. The page originally said it would be CDs, now it says vinyl. But Roger says it will be rare CDs: "Actually we are going to make 5 CDs burnt straight from the original digital mastering files. You actually can't get a higher quality file on a physical format so... This is now quite interesting, so ENTER!"

QO: Tell me about the Robert Smith (The Cure) thing?

JG: Aye, Robert Smith of The Cure has covered There Is A Girl In The Corner, the first song off our new record and that is a double A side. I will play you that now
(Plays song from his phone).

I cannot believe that The Cure like our band, it’s fucking mental.

The Cure and The Smiths are my biggest influences. I love the Smiths, I have actually done a few sessions with Mike Joyce, he’s a really nice bloke. The Cure to me though, progressively are a band that have always tried new things.

From High Snobiety: "While there are myriad rock stars who pushed androgynous aesthetics – from KISS’s outrageous circus of hair and leather to Alice Cooper’s out and out gender bending, it’s cult Goth figurehead Robert Smith whose legacy in androgynous dressing that still echoes today. Smith’s trademark image of smeared lipstick, eyeliner, pale skin, messy black hair and all-black getup would define the Goth aesthetic and matched the Cure’s gloomy, sombre music perfectly, and while the Cure frontman hated his band’s connotations with the Goth movement, designers are still drawing on the Goth aesthetic to this day."
