'Trilogy' on ARTE tonight

From Le Blog TV News: Three for the price of one! Time to a mythical concert, post-punk group THE CURE interpreter entirety Pornography and Disintegration Bloodflowers albums.

Different in shape, this trilogy of albums have in common their melancholy and introspective focus. Them together in a big hypnotic celebration seemed obvious.

It was in Berlin at Tempodrom, the idea came to fruition in 2002 the program:. Unforgettable three-hour show, punctuated by the deep and soulful voice of Robert Smith.

Do not miss the night from Saturday to Sunday 2 August 3. From 00:40 on ARTE. (Thanks David)

Update (08/01/14): Just bumping this to the top so you don't forget. Here's the page on ARTE with videos and photos previewing the broadcast. (Thanks Thomas & Sylvain)

'Beautiful Noise' NYC screening on July 31st

Eric Green's 'Beautiful Noise' documentary will open the 2nd annual Sound & Vision series in NYC on July 31st at 7 PM. Get tickets here.

A couple of reports from last night's screening:

Peter - "Eric was there last night and he said that he had some great footage of Robert talking backwards that he hopes will be released some day soon."

pvox - "I was also there last night. It's well worth it if you like a lot of the bands who were profiled. I was hoping for more Lush, but it was quite good overall.

Robert actually gets a lot of screen time in the first part and has some really good quotes. In the Q&A after, the filmmaker also said he has about 10 minutes of footage of Robert describing the making of Pornography."

'Beautiful Noise' L.A. screenings

Eric Green's 'Beautiful Noise' documentary will have its Los Angeles premiere on July 10th at Cinefamily.

Update (07/07/14): Sold out! 2nd screening added for July 17th. Get tickets here.

Update (07/22/14): Final L.A. screening added on July 24th. Get tickets here.

Update (07/26/14): And here's a report from John - "I finally got to see Beautiful Noise last night. I've been hassling/encouraging Eric about this project ever since I read a little blurb online in 2005. If I'm not mistaken, I think I actually told you about it as soon as I found out. Well, it was worth the wait. It was a beautiful film about some beautiful music. Anyone who is a fan of Cocteau Twins, JAMC, MBV, Ride, Slowdive, even The Cure will thoroughly enjoy it. Robert Smith features prominently and his opinions on this era of music provides some of the most important sound bytes. I spoke with Eric after the movie. He said he had over three hours of footage of Robert and that he really talked in depth about this music and how The Cure identified with the movement. He also said Robert was very supportive of the film and he is proud to call him a friend now. It will play at festivals over the next couple months. Be sure to see if you can."

Chicago Riot Fest daily lineup

The Cure will play on Sunday, Sept. 14th. Single and 2 day passes now available.

From Riot Fest on Facebook: "Doors at 2pm on Friday, Doors at 11am on Sat/Sun. We'll be done by 10ish each night."

I'm officially in for the Chicago & Denver Riots. So expect Robert to announce stand alone Cure shows any day now, sending our travel plans into total disarray. :)

Why am I going to both Chicago & Denver? To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the US Prayer Tour. My Prayer Tour shows were Sept. 15th, 16th, 17th, 1989. My Riot Fest dates are Sept. 14th & 20th. Works out pretty well. So if The Cure want to be that 10th mystery band, and play Disintegration in full at the shows, I'm good with that. :)

Denver Riot Fest moved to Mile High Stadium

From Riot Fest on Facebook: Riot Fest & Sideshow, some people didn't want YOU or US in their town. Since we were forced to move Riot Fest away from its inaugural home in Byers, CO, we are bringing Byers to you at Sports Authority Field at Mile High Stadium in downtown Denver on Sept. 19-21st.

Thank you Riot Fest fans and family for being patient this past week and thank you for standing alongside us. And even though Riot Fest will be at Mile High Stadium this year, we have officially filed an appeal with Arapahoe County as of this morning because we know we are right. All tickets will be honored at the new location and refunds for those who purchased camping spots will be forthcoming.

Denver Riot Fest not cancelled!

From Riot Fest on Facebook: "Due to circumstances beyond our control and despite lots of support for Riot Fest & Sideshow in Byers, May Farms is no longer available to host Riot Fest. A nearby alternate location will be announced early next week. We know this sucks, we're as disappointed as you are, but if you could be a little patient with us, we'll have more information ASAP. All tickets will be honored at the new location. Riot Fest in Denver is NOT cancelled, the show will go on, and rock n roll never dies."

"We have a backup up plan, just need to take care of a few things. We are literally on the way to the airport to head to Denver right now."

"Dates will be the same."

Update (07/12/14): The rumor going around, and it seems to be based solely on info posted by Bandsintown, has them moving to Boulder. This is NOT confirmed and you should not alter your plans at all until Riot Fest makes their official announcement.

As Riot Fest says, "You saw some info about Riot Fest on an app? An app that we have nothing to do with? Yeah, I would totally trust that." So, yeah, I don't think it's going to Boulder.

Denver Riot Fest permit denied

Okay, forget the festival. How about a solo show at Red Rocks? Or even invite some of the other bands to play a mini Curiosa Festival?

Riot Fest denied permit for 3-day music event in Byers in Arapahoe County by John Aguilar of The Denver Post

The curtain officially closed Friday on the Riot Fest show in Byers, with Arapahoe County announcing that it will not issue a temporary-use permit for the three-day music extravaganza.

Riot Fest, which features well known rock and punk acts such as Primus, The Cure, Wu-Tang Clan and Slayer, was scheduled for Sept. 19-21 at May Farms in Byers. It made its first appearance in the state last year, also at May Farms.

The festival was expected to attract 17,000 people a day to Byers, a town of just over 1,000 residents located about 40 miles east of Denver.

It's not clear how organizers of the festival will deal with the thousands of fans who have purchased tickets to Riot Fest or whether they will try to find an alternate location in the state.

Organizers had been awaiting word on a special use permit from Arapahoe County after a public hearing on July 1 where residents voiced concerns about the three-day music festival — primarily revolving around noise, traffic and drug use.

"The decision to deny is based upon traffic impacts and public safety concerns that would adversely impact surrounding property owners," stated a release posted on the county's website Friday.

Riot Fest organizer Max Wagner told The Denver Post in June that he was "confident that we're going to get to a place where the commissioners, the local community leaders are happy."

The county commissioners were considering two issues.

The first was the temporary-use permit. The commissioners also are mulling whether to grant a use by special review amendment, allowing May Farms to expand its agritainment operations to an additional 195 acres north of Interstate 70 to accommodate large events like Riot Fest.

Riot Fest has two other shows scheduled to take place — in Chicago and Toronto during the two weekends leading up to the Colorado dates. (Thanks @slicingeyeballs)

A Reeves and Jason jam today?

That's great! Now how about "jamming" with Robert, Simon, and Roger, and creating some new Cure songs? Or is hoping we might one day hear new Cure material the dream of mad men/women? :)
