Sean Penn as Robert Smith?

Update: "The director of the movie is Paolo Sorrentino. In an interview he said that for the rock star character played by Sean Penn, the inspiration was Robert Smith, leader of The Cure. "When he came to Rome, I went to see him in concert. Lipstick on the lips, punk hair, fifteen-year-old look and he is 50 years old instead. Thanks to Michael Stock, host of Part Time Punks on KXLU 88.9 FM in L.A. every Thursday from 3-6pm, we now have the full audio of Lol Tolhurst's appearance on last week's show. If you're looking for Lol's comments about his proposal of playing some live 'Faith' shows, that's at 167:23. Lol also debuted a new Levinhurst song, 'Seeds are Sown', at 118:17. It was a great interview, with lots of great tracks and stories about the early Cure days, so thanks again to Lol and Michael for doing it, and for sending in the audio. To clarify something, Lol has no news about 'In Orange'. He said he was mistaken when he was talking about that. Robert only mentioned the 'Mixed Up' remaster and the Cure at the BBC set.

Update: The Guardian is running a story about this, too. But before anyone gets too excited, please remember that this is simply a proposal made to Robert by Lol. No indication yet that this will actually happen. (Thanks Keith)

Lol on Part Time Punks

Update 2 (from Lol): "Just realized looking thru my recent emails from Robert he tells me that he's working on the Cure at the BBC and mixed up remaster..oops! Not Cure In Orange as previously reported! But anyway the dvd of it should be out soon enough...."

Update: Michael hopes to post the audio from the show soon, but until then, here are a few highlights - Lol said that Robert told him that work continues on The Cure @ the BBC box set and that it should be out next year. Same goes for the deuxe edition of Mixed Up. He also emailed Robert recently about the possibility of playing some shows together next year for the 30th anniversary of 'Faith', with the original lineup, and says the ball is now in Robert's court.

A reminder about Lol being on Part Time Punks today: "Lol Tolhurst will be on my Part Time Punks radio show today from 3-6pm P.S.T. on KXLU 88.9FM in Los Angeles. He promises to bring rare tracks by The Cure, Levinhurst, The Presence as well as some weird and rare tracks from his extensive collection of electronic music (which dates back to 1930)." Cure on Madness of the 80s

"Yesterday on French TV channel France 3 there was a program called "the madness of the 80's", a collection of the most memorable events in music/fashion/politics etc.. and they showed about 8 seconds of The Cure. First they were lying on a bed doing a kind of a capella version of Close to Me with Simon singing the bass line, Boris clapping his hands and Porl singing the keyboard part. Each of the ten pieces will be matched to an ambient field recording of a space and have a video of clouds to accompany it, hence the name! Im also going to release the scores in a book with drawings of the ambient spaces...

And if you missed it before, my Interpol blog is at Public Perversions. So until The Cure gets rolling again, and they WILL, so don't lose faith in them, that's what I'll be doing.

Disintegration Deluxe in Les Inrockuptibles

Here is a scan of a Disintegration review in French magazine "Les inrockuptibles" #763 (released July 14th 2010). I'm sorry I don't have time to translate this. This is a good review and they say that Disintegration is the last great Cure album. (Thanks Sylvain)
