The setlist and show notes have been moved here.
Some additional notes from Vince:
"Just some quick notes from the Boston show. Porl had some problems with his guitar through some songs and it went out completely during the first 2/3rds of Inbetween Days. Robert mentioned before Lovecats that it was a strange show and that it was a weird night for him. The new song Sleep When I'm Dead was really good, up tempo, and like Jeff said, Porl was a maniac with the wah. Crowd was small, but was very in to the show. "

nuttin to do with the gig but I notice that the official site's countdown climaxed to a big nothing...the cure dont quite get the web do they...
ReplyDeleteThat clock is just counting down to May 13th, the release date. I still have 4 and a half hours left on mine.
ReplyDeleteah I see...0 hours in australia!! thats funny. i was expecting some sort of new site to be launched on the 0.
ReplyDeleteOh there WILL be a new website, maybe tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteCraig - the countdown is obviously location specific. It is May 13th in Australia and the countdown has ended. Jo
ReplyDeleteHey Jo, yes that's what I meant. It was counting down to May 13th. It's tomorrow for you, still today for me. : )
ReplyDeleteCraig - I could make a crack about you living in the past - but that would be mean.
ReplyDeletePlainsong to start - OMG I would love to go to a concert that opens with Plainsong.
ReplyDeletehm...so i guess this show wasn't close to a sell out?
ReplyDeleteBut oh so true, future girl.
ReplyDeleteNot unless it was a late arriving crowd.
ReplyDeletejust try and infer that Adelaide is a vision of the future hey...
ReplyDeletedamn it makes me wish i made the drive up to boston...since i'm going to be missing the shows by me
ReplyDeleteI don't think that anyone could possibly consider Adelaide (or Perth, for that matter) are cities of the future!
ReplyDeletePrayers for Rain straight after Plainsong - I wish I was in Boston right now!
ReplyDeleteSleep When I'm Dead! Hope we get a good recording tonight.
ReplyDeleteCraig - any idea of the sound of this song? Poppy or mellow?
ReplyDeleteThis setlist is fantastic so far.
Not sure yet. They rehearsed 2 new songs at soundcheck, one pop, one slow.
ReplyDeleteHere's our answer from Jeff at the show: "Sleep when I'm dead...rocker...crazed porl wah...good one!"
ReplyDeleteYay!! Exciting. :) Will they play the new slow one as well???
ReplyDeleteFive songs from Disintegration.... so far. Plus a new song. WOW!!!!
ReplyDeleteFive songs from DisinteGRATE-tion? This isn't the freakin' Prayer Tour. Stop living in the freakin' past, Robert, and play us some shimmering BF stuff! Or at least something GOOD from TC! Not that putrid alt.end crap.
ReplyDeleteCat - My hopes for Bloodflowers material being played was rekindled by the appearance of Maybe Someday at Philly. Out of this World would be Out of this World.
ReplyDeletethis is pretty exciting that there are subtle changes to the setlists...i wonder how they decide what makes the cut for each respective show
ReplyDeleteMaybe Someday?!
ReplyDeleteI love that song...
I am excited to see them, but if they don't play The Holy Hour as opener and Bloodflowers as closer in Atlanta I will build a pyre of all my Cure CDs, ignite it, and start stalking Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon.
ReplyDeleteRobert, Maybe Someday is a good song indeed. The Loudest Sound (or, as my iPod calls it, The Loudest Song) is even better, and Bloodflowers itself is the best. Ever. Period. Exclamation Point. Etc.
ReplyDeleteOh no, the return of Us or Them.
ReplyDeleteUs or Them could be their worst song besides Just Say Yes.
ReplyDeleteAre you forgetting Never?
ReplyDeleteclockwise cat, mine is also labeled Loudest Song! heheh
ReplyDeleteSilly iTunes tags...
Loudest Sound needs some dusting off. That would sound great played live with Porl doing his thing..
*sigh* Is the Shrine show here yet?!
They are gonna get the Faith Encore tonight...any takers?
ReplyDeleteTim - I want say yes, but I'll say no.
ReplyDeleteCraig, I call your Never and raise you a Club America!
ReplyDeleteI didn't like Us Or Them until the first time I heard it played live - and then I changed my mind.
ReplyDeleteCraig: we'll find out in about 7 minutes.
ReplyDeleteOh, you think first encore? Hmm, maybe then.
ReplyDeletewow- the blood! isn't jpx at this show? i bet he's having spasms right now!!!
ReplyDeleteIf the LA Shrine gets any songs off of Faith, specifically Other Voices or All Cats Are Grey, I can safely retire from going to shows for the rest of my life...
ReplyDeleteI didn't know JPX was going tonight. He got a world premiere too.
ReplyDeleteMy bet is for the Seventeen Seconds encore.
ReplyDeleteUs or Them and alt.end are sickening songs that need to be retired from the sets. Club America, on the other hand, is brilliant, because it's parodic fun. The former two are stiflingly bad because they take themselves too seriously.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand why Robert insists on playing the WORST songs from TC while neglecting gems like Labyrinth and B43.
And it's.....the pop encore : (
ReplyDeleteso, they lead w/ the Pop encore...interesting. Wonder if they will pull out a Pornography Encore ala The Dream Tour at any point...the possibilities are endless...
ReplyDeletebefore 3 is amazing, definitely my favorite from that album.
ReplyDeleteThey do a great live version. I don't know why they don't perform it more often!
I've loved B43 since I heard it on that terrible quality mp3 from Coachella. It should have been a single.
ReplyDeleteI would say that we are pretty lucky to have such long sets and diverse encores.
ReplyDeleteMy wife is a huge Depeche Mode fan and it seems like they play, its the same sets, every tour :(
The Blood - awesome!
ReplyDeleteHey dude, how the hell can you love The Cure and denigrate the greatest record of all time, yes Disintegration.
Bloodflowers = boring, except for Maybe Someday.
Tim, after looking at that Philly encore setlist, I don't think that they have a Pornography encore this time around, though I could be wrong, and perhaps they have more encores that weren't listed, and they just gave themselves those to choose from for that show.
ReplyDeleteI LOVED Before 3 at Coachella... beautiful night, great sound, up close...augh! The Cure rules!!
ReplyDelete(
Craig, I was at the Coachella show in 04 and B43, EOTW, Lost, and The Promise all sounded amazing. Only The Promise did not live up to its "promise" on the album, as it sounds rather lackluster there, though I love it live. Indeed, the Coachella versions of all the songs supersede the album versions by several miles, although I do love the album version of Lost, especially.
ReplyDeleterob, you obviously weren't at any of the Dream Tour shows. Bloodflowers stuff is EXCELLENT live.
ReplyDeleterob: Not a huge Disintegration fan. Yeah, sure, it's good, but whatever. More like DisinteOverated. ;-)
ReplyDeleteBloodflowers is worlds better. As is Faith, HOTD, WMS, Porno, 17, BDC...
Yup.
Yes, Bloodflowers really came "alive" during the Dream Tour.
ReplyDeleteyes, I said WMS is better than Disintegration. Suck on that, MOFOS!
ReplyDelete:-D
Wow! WMS better than Disintegration?!
ReplyDeleteThat's a first! Gotta love the diversity of opinions!
...but I loves me some HotD :D
The Dream Tour was where I discovered my PASSION for the Cure - before that I just 'liked' the band. I took an amazing journey through the back catalogue after that.
ReplyDeleteRobert: The HEAD rocks yer ass. The HEAD rules over ALL in Cure CD-dom. Screw Disint - it's ALL about THE HEAD.
ReplyDeletehey guys i know everybody want songs from every album of the cure but do you think the cure will play 300 songs tonight?...i would like they play all song but it's impossible...
ReplyDeleteclockwise, methinks that you need brain surgery if you think that WMS is better than Disintegration.
ReplyDeleteClockwise loves some WMS, but being insanely in love with Head on The Door proves sanity. Like super-sanity or something. I feel in love with that album the day it came out. Made me a Cure fan. Inbetween Days might be my favorite pop song of all time. That video makes me smile every time I see it.
ReplyDeleteDayGlo for the WIN!!!
I just called a psychiatrist and I'm getting my head checked tomorrow. He did say that something must be amiss for me mentally since I favor WMS over Disintegration.
ReplyDeleteBTW, do you all think that Robert cares what COF commenters want him to play?
Not one bit. : )
ReplyDeleteWell, that was a short Seventeen Seconds encore. Does anyone feel an "Old School" encore coming?
ReplyDeleteIsn`t Push the best song ever to listen live?
ReplyDeleteRobert vs. Craig: The Grudge Match!
ReplyDeleteSee? What did I tell you guys and girls?
ReplyDeleteTHIS Robert gives Craig a hearty thumbs up for keeping this site active and more up to date then the real site.
ReplyDeleteI cannot speak on behalf of the other Robert. I hear he loves us all. :D
Steel Cage match! Two men enter, one man leaves.
ReplyDeleteEasiest call ever. : )
ReplyDeleteAw, Craig is too cute! I wish you and Robert hadn't had your Cure Wars a few years back. :-(
ReplyDeleteOh, just got Arab in before curfew. No fines for the 2 of the 3 shows.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's not entirely Craig's fault that Roger and Perry found out from CoF that they were fired. Robert should have already informed them before that happened.
ReplyDeleteMan, that was one of the most surreal days of my life.
ReplyDeleteCraig, there was an 11:30pm curfew for the Boston show?
ReplyDeleteYes, curfew was 11:30 tonight.
ReplyDeletePerry and Roger are no longer in The Cure?????????????????????????????????????????????
ReplyDelete:-D
no wonder robert hates the web...cant do his dirty business in private, like back in the good old days...
ReplyDeleteCraig, I guess that you don't have to answer this if you don't want to, but did Robert actually personally contact you during the Roger/Perry firing debacle?

ReplyDeleteuh oh, i cracked open a can of slimy looking creatures. heh. sorry craig!
ReplyDeleteBugger - I missed the live encore conversation - I hate it when work gets in the way of my Cure pleasure.
ReplyDeleteThanks heaps to Jeff, Vince and Craig for the live updates. It's things like this that make work bearable.
its a matter if priorities - cancel all meetings during cure gigs!!
ReplyDeleteEight goose eggs up on the front page of the official site, yet the main page still looks the same. Hmm.
ReplyDeleteyep, a gradual disappointment spreading throughout the world, timezone by timezone...pretty good scheme me thinks!!

ReplyDeleteCraig, do you know how the ticket sales are going so far?
ReplyDeleteIs there soldouts alredy?
The most of European dates were sold out, the 3 of Mexico as well, and why why the US date never get that height lately?
mad bob, at least a couple of North American shows have sold out, one of them being Austin, Texas.
ReplyDeletejust got back from the show. Of course I finally have an aftershow pass.....and what happens.....the band gets right on the bus and leaves from Montreal. Go Figure!!! I did get a free beer backstage and a copy of the set list. Interesting, they have a 5 Encore list that they seem to be changing. Here there are: Seventeen Second Encore - At Night, M, Play for Today, A Forest; Pop Encore - Lovecats, Lets Go to Bed, Freak Show, Close to Me, Why Can't I Be You; Old School Encore - Three Imaginary Boys, Fire in Cairo, Boys Don't Cry, Jumping Someone Elses Train, Grinding Halt, 10:15 Saturday Night, Killing Another; KMKMKM Encore - If Only Tonight We Could Sleep, The Kiss; Faith Encore - The Holy Hour, Other Voices, Drowning Man, Faith. Oh why couldn't we have gotten the Faith Encore.....Seemingly no pornogrophy encore in site.....but you never know.
ReplyDeleteYour talk about the Coachella live-versions of some of the songs of the last album made me find out that i don't have them anymore!
ReplyDeleteI tried to download them from the Chainofflowers audio/video page, but the FTP server denies anonymous access.
I just remember how good they were - much better than the album versions IMO.
Craig, would it be possible to somehow activate those links again?
Apart from that - thank you (and everybody else involved) in providing such great info and stuff about what's going on, without your site this Cure-summer would be only half the fun and joy! :)
A Forest had a sweet intro tonight. Man, it was incredible. When it started playing, I thought it was a new song.
ReplyDeleteJust got back from Boston, it's 1:38am. A few quick thoughts. Excellent show! Robert was in good spirits, playing with the crowd a bit. The new song, "Sleep When I'm Dead" is terrific, and very catchy. I'm not sure how it will play with you guys who don't like pop Cure, but I liked it immediately. Robert announced, "This is the first time we've ever played this song", it was quite exciting. All the new material played well and worked seamlessly with the old stuff. As noted above a number of albums were completely absent from the set list, but it didn't matter. I might be in the minority, but I think a few of the songs suffered from the lack of keyboard, especially Lovecats. Damn, do I really have to get up in 4 hours to start seeing patients? It was all worth it!
ReplyDeleteI was there last night - I almost agree with you but I LOVED Lullaby sans keyboard.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Lullaby was terrific!
ReplyDeletewasnt Sleep when Im Dead supposed to be the HOTD outtake that had a very 80s sound?
ReplyDeleteWhat a show... I may be officially back in the Cure freak fold (afraid to say I lapsed in the post-Boris era, came back a bit with Bloodflowers, though). My recording sounds quite good, I think, and here are a couple treats from it (including "Sleep When I'm Dead")...
ReplyDeletehttp://www.bradleysalmanac.com/2008/05/cure-played-boston-setlist-new-songs.htm
I reeeeally wish I hadn't read that they're doing a "Faith" encore... I would have broken down if they played "Drowing Man". Amazing.
Ah, good ol' blogger comments chopped off my full url.
ReplyDeleteJust go here and you'll find the post at the top for awhile...

thanks brad! sleep when i'm dead sounds AMAZING...the passion is back.
ReplyDeletethanks!!
ReplyDeleteHahah - it totally does sound like a HOTD song!
Wow, Sleep When I'm Dead sounds awesome! Thanks, Brad. :)
ReplyDeletethe boston globe has a pretty good review...

Brad, your Spiritualized recording is excellent, also. Thanks for sharing so much. Would love to hear the Silver Jews tracks.
ReplyDeleteWow, Brad, great recording! I've got chills listening to "Sleep When I'm Dead". :) I really needed this today - thank you so much for sharing with us. :)
ReplyDeleteBrad, any chance of getting the audio up for the other new songs they played?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm hoping to edit some more audio tonight sometime, after work. If I wasn't stuck to my desk all day, I'd have the whole show edited by now ;)
ReplyDeleteThanks, your recordings are terrific. I'll be at the show on the 23rd and these new tracks are getting me psyched. I love The Cure live...
