"The cureheads are proud to announce the appointment of a brand new drummer.............
Please join us in welcoming Andy Anderson, an amazing musician who has
played with Hawkwind, The Glove, The Cure, Iggy pop, Levinhurst to name
just a few wonderful collaborations.
After rehearsals he will join us for our London venue Show on Oct 26th
then Sunderland, Stockton and then on our South American Tour in
November.
We are obviously very very happy to be joined by such a rare talent who
was instrumental in the creation of the albums Japanese Whispers, The
Top, and Concert in addition to the singles Love Cats and The
Caterpillar, not to mention The Glove.
We also welcome back Sean Flude to international Pseudo-Gallup bass duties after a 2 year break.
The rest of The cureheads are currently busy upping their game to feel
worthy of being in the same rehearsal room as Andy. Tour dates
released as they are confirmed @ www.thecureheads.com" (Thanks Gary)
Next step: rejoining The Cure.
ReplyDeleteI guess this is sort of the reverse of the scenario where the guy in the tribute band joins the real band. PLEASE post videos of Andy (get an AndyCam set up for your gigs) playing, especially post-Andy Cure material. Would love to see his take on songs such as Push, Six Different Ways, Icing Sugar, Closedown and more.
ReplyDeleteWow...@ChristianZ YES! YOU'RE RIGHT! He's a stronger drummer than Jason (though I don't have complains anymore since their Summercure shows...)
ReplyDeleteStop insulting Jason !!! He is the best drummer The Cure ever had !
DeleteListen to 100 years on "concert" and than listen to 100 years on "trilogy". I think i rest my case...
Yep!
DeleteYep!

DeleteMarco, you're fucking right. He's been amazing this summer.
DeleteJason's great but Andy actually gives Boris a run for his money. I get lost in Andy's rhythms from The Top album.
DeleteWhy would you compare a drummer from 30 years ago with a permamnent member of the Cure? Silly argument.... as somebody who has been playing this music for over 20 years...None of The Cure's drummers are STRONGER overall...they all have their own styles and were particularly suited to what The Cure was doing at the time. Jason joined in the 1990's and is a classic 1990's indie drummer who learned to play in bands (probabaly why Robert likes his style so much)aside from the fact that they are probabaly great mates by now.
ReplyDeleteBoris & Andy are both hard working session drummers/percussionists they trained themselves as young men to be able to play anything, so that they might make a living from music.
Jason is the Cure's drummer and has been for longer than any other drummer. I'm sick to death of seeing this argument over and over again about who is the best. I see no reason for it other thanfor the nasty element of the cure following to raise its head and enjoy being nasty......end of rant!
It irritates me when they bash Jason over and over and over again.
DeleteHe is such a good drummer, and i did like Andy at the time, he did one hell of a job on a forest (concert the cure live). Its by far the best live version of this song ever. Charlotte sometimes he did very well to. But it's to standard for my taste. I like it when a drummer puts something extra to a song, just like Jason does.
And this is why I hate you
ReplyDeleteAnd how I understand
That no-one ever knows or loves another
hahaha
ReplyDeleteGary, nice comeback. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, this is pretty awesome.
ReplyDeleteperhaps they should also ask lol and the other ex-cure-members to join;-)
ReplyDeleteI like curehead-gary's take on the various drummers. Lol started because he knew Robert, Porl, Michael, etc., and was assigned by them to learn drums. Andy and Boris came from the vantage point of session musicians who seemed to like melding with The Cure. Jason joined from the perspective of a fan who had some drumming capability already, more than Lol but not as much as Andy or Boris.
ReplyDeleteAnd, yeah, maybe Porl, Perry, Lol, Mathieu and others can join Cureheads. Heck, you can even throw Peter O'Toole in (was that his name?) and have the original singer back. I still would like to see a new Reflections tour with Andy playing the Japanese Whispers and The Top material and also think he could work with Reeves on stage.
I don't think it was simply the case of Jason being "a fan with some drumming capability". He was a gigging drummer and composer already. He'd been in My Life Story before joining The Cure.
Deleteomg...a Cure farm team, where members rotate in and out of the"real" band and the "ex-Cures" band? You could have the Ex's opening up for The Cure at concerts, resulting in a 5+ hour show! Maybe Frank Bell could do vocals if Peter O'Toole couldn't do them?
ReplyDeleteWell, they could call the other band Easy Cure again. And, yeah, rotating lineup with tribute band members filling in slots when no former member is available to. This could be a whole new concept. Get Gary Biddles and Roberto and Steve Goulding and Vince Ely in there too.
ReplyDeleteand don't forget steven severin at some point!
ReplyDeleteI'm not anti-Jason. I liked that as soon as he joined he was already suggesting unique percussion things the band could use. But I think after WMS that the whole band's overall experimentation has died down and almost everything they have put out since then is a fairly basic guitar/bass/drums/some keyboards number. I like a lot of the songs but I don't think they have challenged Jason and there just aren't very many memorable instrumental riffs anymore period.
ReplyDeleteHey there's the nasty element! they always turn up eventually. Normaly cowering behind a brand new google plus account they made just for the occasion.
ReplyDeleteand on that note....I would like to thank the most amazing part of The Cure following (including some Cure people themselves)for helping me hit well above my original pledge to Marie Curie Cancer fund for the Penine Etape this Sunday.... If I die I die!

ReplyDeleteSo after 9hrs 30 or something and climbing 5000m in altitude and breaking my right elbow, I managed to finish probabaly the most insane race of all time... right now if anyone wants a shag there is probabaly a 1:500000000 chance of me getting them preganant as my penis now is somewhere up by my left nipple (internally) and a 1 in 200 million chance of me not falling asleep before ejaculation.
ReplyDeletePhotos later....official ones as I also dropped my iphone down the prtalool 15 mins before the start with half of my energy gels and bars.... I cried like a baby at the end.... I really did want to give up three or four times.... Life changing.... really... more later...just had hot bath in voltoroland filled up with BCAAs so I dont digest my arse whilst sleeping...off to bed... thanks so much for all of your support....ALL of you!
