The Cure were simply magnificent, helped by a great venue & crowd that were totally up for it. We (me & my brother Joe) got in around 6ish and were standing a few feet from Jason during the Cranes, as mentioned elsewhere, he left after a couple of songs. Both The Cranes & Crystal Castles were good. Having seen The Cure numerous times this was certainly one of the finest shows I’ve witnessed & having the extra guitar made a big difference. The Kiss was the highlight for me, but it was all good, all very very good.fatpie1664https://www.blogger.com/profile/08563301501190140123noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1886767188052333210.post-60521610389628744642012-07-11T03:21:36.367-05:002012-07-11T03:21:36.367-05:00I arrived with my Italian chum Valeria as Crystal ...I arrived with my Italian chum Valeria as Crystal Castles finished their set and found it surprisingly easy to get pretty close to the front. It was "fucking hot" as Robert described it and Italians do love a cigarette, so I felt like I was being slowly smoked like a kipper!
The audience was much warmer and jovial than English ones, I have seen the Cure live six times before in London. When bottles of water were being tossed into the sweaty crowd much hilarity and cheeky banter ensued.
The concert itself was absolutely brilliant, 36 songs played, over three hours. I felt very lucky to hear SDWAY played live and adored Bananafishbones. Robert seemed incredibly happy, dancing about and making cute facial expressions, etc. Simon was in very high spirits, doing some rock-God, guitar hero poses and raising his bass guitar to the drums/ Jason in tribute at the climax of The Kiss. Jason's drumming was phenomenal, really on it and dullards who continue to moan about him just need to go to a concert and experience the power of it live, not base their ill-founded judgements on Youtube videos. I would have taken more videos with my internet enabled telephone but it was incredibly annoying to have one's view blocked by a sea of glowing phones and even in some cases an iPad! All in all, it was a great night and the band played with passion and verve, Robert's voice is as strong, if not stronger than ever. Roll on Wish re-release and new material from the band I say! Grazie mille a mia amica Valeria, x. We arrived at the venu...Review from David Fargier:

We arrived at the venue when it was about 6:45, a country side hyppodrome and a good place to organize concerts due to the existing stuctures for food, drinks... About 3,000 people were already there, and the shadowed seated area was full. We ran in front of the stage to see Cranes. Lovely Alison did a good job but the sound wasn't strong enough. They played some of their classics and a bit of recent material as well. The slow-mid tempo of their songs is sometimes difficult to find and we heard a few mistakes but it was a good starter even if the guitarist completely missed the tune of the closing song.

After a few/lots of beers, I noticed that some fans from curefans.com and closetocure.com had put some banners on the seated balcony. The venue slowly and quietly packed but I managed to see almost everyone, my french friends and most of the previous eve meet up. Once again I want to say ciao to Maurizio, Georgia, Marcel, Alessandro/Grego, Marco, Stefano, Thomas, Katrin, Soledad, Antoinette, Nico, Mauro, Gilles, Rani, Frédéric, Bill, Sandrine, Stéphanie and a few others I met : you made my Cure nights and day as much as the concert ! I feel proud to be European with so wonderful, simple, accessible, caring people you are and I see at every single why The Cure made you different. Love, guys.

Someone told me that Eden Gallup was seated on the balcony and Marcel talked a few minutes with Jason, who seemed glad and relaxed but had to run away when the crowd noticed he was there. Simon and Roger showed up to just before Crystal Castle went on stage. This band is amazing, playing rock, singing punk on techno tunes. Powerful, brilliant, drinky... a good success for them. I would have loved to better hear the singer's voice but it was a very good set.

Then we had to wait about one hour before The Cure got on stage. The venue was packed for good but I don't know if it sold out or not. I'd say there were about 16-18000 attendees but I have to check (if I can because in Italy reliable figures about capacities and attendances are quite hard to find).

Those who read my posts yesterday may have thought I was completely drunk with an pill in my stomach every 2 minutes. But it wasn't the case. The whole set was perfect, the Roman crowd one of the best public I've ever seen.

Robert's voice was clear and expressive. He changed a few lyrics on 'One Hundred Years' and 'Let's Go To Bed', danced a bit during 'Lullaby' and the 3rd encore. We got almost every song we could have dreamt of. It's the best concert I've seen in my entire life and I've seen hundreds ! The boys were enjoying every second of it and Reeves is a good challenger for the 'old 4' who played incredibly well, especially Jason. The next time I read something bad about him, I'll be a Buddha wearing a Mona Lisa smile. Robert was on a cloud, as we say here in France, and I'm sure he knows how above this concert was.

But maybe they can do even better, who knows? So see you in Bilbao!Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17355214926335490436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1886767188052333210.post-13289999814135264762012-07-10T06:34:35.218-05:002012-07-10T06:34:35.218-05:00not thesame with no porl tompson and wawa giutar s...not thesame with no porl tompson and wawa giutar ses mieux san Reeve et cent Roger.Bizou d'ma campagne kebekoise...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16863531825312413607noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1886767188052333210.post-38508571564574844832012-07-10T04:31:49.976-05:002012-07-10T04:31:49.976-05:00I can't count how many Cure concert I saw in m...I can't count how many Cure concert I saw in my life, but enough to say that the Roma gig was nice/great. Double valutation: NICE, because I am more into the firts period of The Cure, so that I don't like too much "pop" Cure concerts, GREAT because the crowd made the difference singing almost all (ehm... I think "Just One Kiss" was sung by very few people even if is the song I wanted to hear since ever) and also because we could hear songs from The Top album quite unusual but 1987 tour, like "Dressing Up" and "Fight". I went to the gig avoiding reading previous setlist and it worked: more emotional to hear surprises. Totally changed lyrics for "One hundred years", collectors are statisfied! Lots of songs also from the Kiss me album: I would include "How beautiful you are...", underratede song, but that's it. More than 3 hours concert is really enough! Nice to see again my old love Cranes, it's a pity that amplification sucked, they really needed a better soundcheck, but the time was few.
In conclusion: brilliant gig, Robert seems to have a special feeling with Rome. Too much pop for me but, looking back at the calendar, I suddenly realize (oh my God!) they're on tour since 1976 and it's quite impossible to hear a sequence like "The Holy Hour"/"The Drwoning man"/"The Funeral party" in a popular gig. And, oh yes, they already did it somwhere!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04150344786173627118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1886767188052333210.post-80882968427906253232012-07-10T01:32:04.719-05:002012-07-10T01:32:04.719-05:00GREAT! So kind of very "positive", the most uplifting Cure gig I ever saw. The audience sang loudly most of the singles. Especially lovesong, lullaby, close to me. Very positive atmosphere.

I have also never seen Robert dancing so much during the concert :) Which made the crowd even more enthusiastic.

The encores made up this "pop" basic set. The same deep water announced as "try to imagine it's cold october in england for 10 minutes" - amazing performance. Then this kiss me set - awesome. And on the dessert just one kiss, dressing up, close to me and others.

Great gig, however quite different from the "usual" ones.
