The Cure & Depeche Mode at ACL in Oct!

Update (07/24/13): The schedule is out. The Cure plays Oct. 5th & 12th, 8 - 10PM. Depeche Mode plays Oct. 4th & 11th, 8 - 9:30PM.

Update (05/09/13): While Regular 3 day passes for weekend 1 are sold out, travel packages and VIP & Platinum 3 day passes are still available. And all options are still available for weekend 2.

Update (05/08/13): Hopefully clearing this up once & for all, ACL has posted the list of bands NOT playing both weekends. Every other band is playing BOTH weekends.

Update (05/07/13): The lineup is out! The Cure & Depeche Mode!!! At the same show!!! Here's the lineup video. That's some Cure bio they put up. Ton of effort and research went into that, I'm sure. :P Apologies to ACL, as they say The Cure provided that bio. In that case, it's actually pretty funny.

Again, to be absolutely clear on this, ACL is 2 weekends. Oct. 4th - 6th & Oct. 11th - 13th. The Cure, along with most of the bands, play 2 shows, 1 each weekend. If you want to see both Cure shows, you have to buy tix for BOTH weekends, not just 1. $225 for each weekend pass. No single day passes. On sale now. Platinum ($3.600) and VIP ($1,050) passes are also available.

While not official yet (well, now it is), don't be surprised if The Cure gets confirmed fairly soon here for the Austin City Limits Festival in Austin, TX this Oct. As points out "the hints page has scrambled clues in the code. The unrevealed bands are scrambled. One is "ERH TCUE." Gotta be them."

To view this for yourself, go to the Lineup hints page and View Page Source. The anagram keeps changing, but the letters are always the same, and always come out as The Cure. They are revealing some of the lineup on Dominican Joe coffee cups, Sno Beach sno-cones, The Mighty Cone ice cream, classified ads in the Austin Chronicle, Pinthouse Pizza coasters, etc, so if you're in Austin, get out there and find the official Cure clue to unlock it on the page! You need to upload a photo of it to Instagram and tag it with #ACLFEST.

Update (05/04/13): One of today's hint locations - @SocialTNT Want to know the #aclfest lineup? Find me at the Farmers Market, get your picture taken with @smilebooth and find out!!! http://t.co/tIxaF570LI
From Austin City Limits Festival on Facebook - Meet us at the SFC Farmers Market Downtown for ACL Lineup Clues and free swag!

Also look for clues on shirts of runners at The Color Run today. Still no Cure clue found. Probably going to save them for the last batch of hints.

More clues! @GibsonBarAustin Get your clues at Gibson now! Koozies, coasters, bevnaps. Selling Topo Chico with bottle cap clues starting tomorrow.

Update (05/04/13): And it looks like The Cure clue has been found! " In a Topo Chico bottle cap: The Cure "

And here's another one. If you want one, get to @GibsonBarAustin today, and order a Topo Chico.

Update (05/05/13): Clue locations for today (this one is at Lady Bird Lake Trail) - @DannyWitte Pick up a on the trail this morning and find out who is playing .

@GibsonBarAustin will be selling Topo Chico bottles with clues today, and we've already seen confirmation that they contain Cure clues. Go get one.

Update (05/06/13): Don't forget, the full lineup is announced just after midnight US central time tonight.

And now Robert confirms 2 nights at ACL "...AND STILL MORE TO COME!!!" If one of them will be Voodoo Fest, please announce it before I buy tickets to Austin! :)

Update (05/05/13): And there we go! The Cure are now officially confirmed for on the hints page! And now that it's confirmed, remember that tickets go on sale May 7th at 10am. No single day tickets, only 3 day passes. $225 for each weekend. And they are playing BOTH weekends, not just one. ACL is like Coachella now.

  5. Is this gonna be like Lollapalooza and sell out in 2.5 seconds?

    1. The regular tickets didn't sell out that quickly. Took about 15-20 minutes, I think. The biggest problem with Lolla was their awful website that handled ticket sales. Hopefully ACL won't be as bad. And with two weekends now, your chances are doubled for getting tickets. Just have to make sure The Cure are actually playing both weekends.

And if they are, what are they doing with that week inbetween shows? They might as well play a couple of smaller shows, right? No one would object to that, would they? :)

      Delete
    2. If they decide to play some stand-alone shows in the US, I will bankrupt myself, if necessary, and use my vacation time!

      Delete
  6. I hope they don't sell out like Lolla. I need to get at least two tickets!

  7. ACL has got to have one of most obnoxious websites!! Bloody hell.

  8. I know I'm getting old, but jeeze I have never heard of ANY of these other bands. Seems like a weak line up for a 3 day festival both in terms of the number of bands, and a lack of better known acts. Is this it?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. No. This is only a handful of the bands that they are leaking early. There are usually 150 or so bands/artists.

Muse has already confirmed themselves as headlining one day, and there are rumors of The xx, and even Depeche Mode, though I'm very skeptical about DM playing there. It does fit their US tour schedule, though, so who knows? I think I'd die if DM and The Cure both played there. :)

      Delete
    2. OK, that's a relief....! I'd certainly love to see DM, too. Fingers crossed.

      Delete
    3. I am with you Craig, I would die if DM and The Cure were playing the same festival. It has always been a dream of mine to see both bands play on the same stage.

      Delete
    4. Add me to the list of people who just might die if DM are on the schedule.

      Delete
    5. Sorry, didn't mean to start some sort of death cult over this. :)

But lets make a pact to try not to die until we've seen DM and The Cure, okay? :)

      Delete
    6. LOL! Agreed!

      Delete
  9. The Cure and DM at one show, I'd definitely be down for that. Especially since DM aren't coming anywhere near me on their US tour. Can't wait until Tuesday!

    ReplyDelete
  10. There is little chance DM is playing ACL. They have a concert in Athens on Saturday October 5th. Have a hard time picturing them flying to/from Austin to/from Athens.
DM already has Houston and Dallas on their tour in September.

    ReplyDelete

    1. No, Athens is May 10th. They are in the US in Oct.

      Delete
    2. Oct. 2nd - LA
      Oct. 6th - Las Vegas
      Oct. 8th - Phoenix

So they are in the area. :)

    3. DM can't play a festival that close to their own dates round there, I'm afraid. And The xx seem too little name yet. Green Day, The Smashing Pumpkins, Neil Young And Crazy Horse, Placebo, Blur, Nine Inch Nails, Phoenix, System Of A Down, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Stone Roses, Iggy Pop And The Stooges, My Bloody Valentine, Eminen, The
Killers, The Prodigy... lots of big and very big names touring this year, so...

      Delete
    4. Happy to recognize I was ! It's because if DM's single that I love so much. Will see them in Nîmes this summer, in one of the most beautiful antic théâtre on earth. Let's have a gig of The Cure here in Europe and 2013 will ba a fantastic year with Dead Can Dance, The Smashing Pumpkins, Sophie Hunger, Björk....

  11. Couple questions:
Not familiar with the ACL festival - could The Cure play a 3 hour show there?

Also, would they come back in Oct to *just* to play this festival? (no other US shows)

Or is there still "more to come"?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Generally, the most headliners usually get at ACL is 2 hours. Some of them only get 90 minutes (Coldplay, My Morning Jacket). I wouldn't be surprised if they gave The Cure 2.5 hours, but they're not getting 3 at this festival.

They really should do a mini tour of Dallas, Houston, and New Orleans while down here that week. :)

  16. Yes. They have not been in New Orleans since those saenger shows. Maybe it is time that they make their first appearance at the New Orleans Arena. 13 years flew by!

Yeah, as much as I don't want to go, I'm not sure I can resist this. Not going to see this happen again, I would guess.

    3. I want to see them both weekends!!!! And WHY do you not want to go?

      Delete
    4. I HATE festivals. And large crowds. And heat. And being miserable. :)

No way I'm paying $450 to go to both weekends. One will have to suffice.

      Delete
    5. Oh I'm probably still going. Just going to have to stay positive for those 3 days. Realize this is pretty historic. And special. :)

      Delete
    6. Ugh. I can't bring myself to go to this festival for the reason's you mention, Craig... I'm going to see them in Chicago with one of my best friends, who saw the Cure two night in a row with me in college. Lolla in Aug. will be difficult enough. I'll save my $$$ and time against hope that they decide to perform at least once standalone show in the U.S.

      Delete
    7. I completely understand that. No way I could suffer through Lolla and ACL. I'm hoping we get some early cool fronts down here. It does happen in Oct, so maybe the Texas heat won't be too bad by then.

      Delete
  23. Be carefull as DM, The Cure, Muse and Kings Of Leon are on the bill... tickets may sell out in a flash. The line-up is just fantastic and Robert will want the boys to overtop the other headliners. I'm waiting for a cool picture with the 4 bands all together. And maybe cross guests on stage ?! So amazing !
And Franz Ferdinand and Phoenix and Queens Of The Stone Age and Arctic Monkeys... waow, lucky Texas.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Lionel Richie ???! Robert hates him. Would love to attend when they meet !! ;))))))

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Then Robert is a fool. LR is fantastic live. Saw him at Jazz Fest here a couple of years ago, made all sorts of jokes about him being here, and he blew me away. In most reviews he was cited as being the biggest surprise and a highlight of the show.

If he's not up against DM, The Cure, or someone else I really want to see, I will definitely be seeing his set.

      Delete
    2. I don't know if he's so against LR yet but remember he once said (a century ago) : 'I don't like U2. I despise them as much as Aha or Lionel Richie. It's our choice, we don't like them'. lol

      Delete
    3. I have a feeling the 80's version of LR and today's version might be different. I'd check him out. Not all night long but for a few songs. See what I did there.

  26. That's a pretty great lineup. Ive seen kings of leon, before seeing them was not a fan, but their live show really impressed me. Muse is another great live band, I think there show is geared more towards festivals now (although their last album was awful.) Also the national are playing, i'm seeing them next week in Ithaca NY for the kickoff of their US tour, weird that they are playing Ithaca. Finally the Cure, nothing that I can say can express how amazing they are live, I saw them during curosia, which was great but was nothing compared to Toronto in 07. Out of 40+ shows, with bands ranging from U2 to Stars to David Gray, The Cure was far and away the best show I have ever been too. I'm hoping that they do some shows in NY or Toronto between festivels, I know that the band wont last forever and would love to see them one or two more times.

  27. If the Cure do VooDoo Fest do you think Depeche Mode would be there too? New Orleans is more affordable for me.

    ReplyDelete

    1. DM are very doubtful for Voodoo, as they've just been announced to play at an F1 race in Abu Dhabi on Nov. 3rd.

      Delete
  28. Thank you, Craig, for your prompt response. Do you suggest buying Austin tix, then if The Cure do announce Voodoo, we could sell our Austin tix? Any idea when they would make an announcement on Voodoo?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I really wish I knew. Voodoo isn't saying when they'll announce more bands. Have only announced 15 so far, and 2 of the 3 headliners.

As far as whether or not to buy ACL tix, that's up to you. Can't really say how easy or hard it would be to sell them if you decide not to go.

Wish I could be of more help, but I don't have any more info on Voodoo.
