Simon at Starbucks

"Funny story; Simon caught me off guard last night when he came into the Starbucks I work at in downtown Denver. I had no idea that it was him until I handed him his drink and asked if it tasted okay. After I recognized him, I was so star struck that I couldn't come up with any words to say. He just thanked me for the drink with a 'Cheers!' and strutted out of the store. Made my night!"
(Thanks Drew)

  1. Very cool :-)
    What'd he have?

I wondered while The Cure were in town (Fairfax for opening night) whether they visited anywhere or what... would have been fun to bump into any/all of them out and about!

  9. LOL! Simon Travolta boogey-swaggering out of Starbucks. Great image!

  10. No freakin' way. Don't sully my mental image of Simon in one of the Denver Starbuckses by adding that buffoon Travolta into the mix!

  11. "Night fevaaah night fevaaaaah"

I think The Cure should go disco. With Robert's falsetto flourishes, shouldn't be too hard. And there's lots of bass in disco - Simon has a perfect niche!

  13. you WISH. you're just being "cocky."

  14. that makes me think the new cure album should either be called 'penis hugging tights' or 'cocky.' which has the better ring?

  15. I think the rest of this tour should be called Deep Throat, owing to Robert's throat issues. Poor dude.

  16. Look at monkey fishing for a cock ring joke. : )

  17. Love the way how he struts out of the store.

Can Simon walk properly or does he just strut himself from A to B?

  18. Monkeys Fish for Cock Rings, tonite at 11.

I think we have a winner. Given Robert's fondness for (lyrical) monkeys, and Simon's fetish for flaunting cock-hugging tights, they really should find a way to put those two words (monkey and cock) in the album title. And then the cover art should show a monkey wearing tights, with the outline of his penis prominent.

DO IT ROBERT! TAKE A RISK WITH THE ALBUM TITLE AND ART!

  19. Actually, he doesn't strut. He gambols.

  20. I think we're all getting carried away here by bestiality and missing the bigger point (whoops, punned a bit myself!): what did Simon have? I for one would love an excuse to get something from Starbucks and then feel the thrill of drinking Simon's drink.

Sadly, I think I'm only half joking :)

  21. when i met simon in 96 at irvine, i spent fifteen minutes talking with him and getting information on his favorite beers. then i spent the next year and a half trying to find them all (not easy finding import beers in vegas, at least not back then). so there's nothing sad in wanting to have the same coffee as him...

  22. I was star struck when I met Simon in New Orleans. I just asked him about playing the older songs on the tour. I really didn't know what to say. This time I have something to talk about. I followed the Reading Royals season and even bought a jersey with Simon 1 on the back. I hope to discuss this with him.

  30. I met the whole band at Guitar Center in LA for their induction into the Rock Walk, but it was so cool to talk to Simon... there's a bit of story here. OK, back in 1992 prior to the Wish tour there was an interview that was broadcast on Live 105.3 in SF and fans were allowed to call in and ask the band questions. All the questions were for Robert except a couple and one was to Simon: What's your favorite snack? Everyone in the band started laughing and Robert said, "I can answer that" and everyone laughed some more and Simon was saying "shut up! don't say it!" and eventually (through a lot of laughter) Robert said, "It's not really a snack, and it's not really a sausage... Snausages!" For those of you who don't know, Snausages are a dog treat in the shape of little sausages. So when I went to the show in San Jose my friend and I snuck in a box of Snausages with a message taped onto it for Simon. Just as they walked out onto the stage my friend tossed the box onto the stage and it slid into Simon's foot. He leaned down, picked it up and then looked around and shook his head and went over to show Robert who laughed and then they started the show (which was amazing). So fast forward to 2004 at Guitar Center Los Angeles, and I get to meet Simon! I related the above to him (and I was going to ask him if he remembered that) but before I could finish he said, "that was you? Snausages aren't funny" I still don't know what the story is behind the snausages (as he refused to answer it) but he was so nice and cool and I was so happy to meet the man who turned me on to playing the bass!
