Thanks to great acts like The Police and Iron Maiden we have enjoyed another very successful year, but we are not sitting on our laurels. We will be working hard in developing markets and actively continuing to develop these countries for the benefit of our members and of UK PLC.”

The most lucrative overseas market for UK artists was the US, where income was £21.7m, followed by Germany (£15m), France (£11.6m) and the Netherlands (£10m). There was less success in developing markets such as China, India and Middle Eastern countries, where piracy is still a concern.

International royalties have more than doubled since 1999 (£68m) and they now account for around 35% of PRS For Music’s revenue.

PRS for Music will publish its full financial results for 2008 later this month, ahead of its AGM on 30 April.

Top 10 revenue territories in 2008

1.
